Awesome work from SeaFire as usual.

Hmmm, I think it would have to be a Mossie, 613 Squadron, LNSF.

I was at Tatton Park last weekend, they had a display on from Manchester Aviation Art Society, some great pics. I voted for the 613sq. Spit XVIII over Ringway, up for sale at 1500. Think there's a few other things I could do with before spending that sort of money.

Maybe SeaFire should start selling his stuff, his work's easily as good as some of the stuff there.

My favourite painting has always been JMW Turners "The Fighting Tremeraire..." Artistically it's a milestone in the history of art, historically it records the moment the pre-industrial age gave in to the age of industry, emotionally it marked the passing of a great and noble ship, the ship that saved the Victory during Trafalgar, and the passing of the age of sail. Turner predates the impressionists by half a century, and yet he was doing very much what they did, the exception being he was painting history while they painted flowers.

For me that painting is the Spitfire, Thermopoli, Wake Island, and every other moment where the actions of the few echoed through history to inspire those who came after or heard of their acheivement. Every time I go to London I pop in the National Gallery and have a look at it, I check out the Sunflowers too, and maybe a Ruebens for a bit of nipple action too, but only after the Turner.

No question.....A 78th Hikosentai Ki-61 brawling with a 80th Headhunters P-38....

No offense to Seafire....but if I could paint/draw like that I'd never try and skin....I'd devote all my time to doing the watercolors including the characture ones....

By far outstanding work.....think they are all wonderful....IMLTHO it has as much value as any photo real painting...both having their place and valuable.

Well, Keith Ferris' Thunderbird mural is grand and his Saburo Sakai for the book Samurai is sharp. I do like the one called Top Cover. A P-38 painting. Ahhh, too many to pick just one. I would have to build a huge gallery 'cause I want them all.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gifWestlands held me captive for over a year, why they interrogated me using High-Tech truth serum drugs to find out what I knew about their secret Time Travelling Saucer €" Code Named €˜Whirlwind€€¦ http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

As you can imagine they did not believe a word I said, so they kept me in a empty skip out the back and told my poor be-fuddled self that I was 45 year old, bald, out of work busker€¦ http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif The next day I was taken to Weymouth sea front and given a carrier bag full of the €˜Big Issue€ and told to get on with it! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

That was 3 months ago, I think?

Anywhoo, for along time I could€ent remember my name or where I lived, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gifthat is until I was spotted by a Budgie that had lodged with me from the €˜Time before€

After introducing himself as €˜Greenie€ he told me that he had escaped one day from his cage while I had gone to get a new piece of cuttle fish€¦ And after many adventures he decided to settle down south, where the climate was more to his liking. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Of course since then we have become firm friends and with the passing of the days my memory has slowly begun to return€¦ http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

What were we discussing?

Oh, and Greenie sends hugs€¦ http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

If I could get it, I would get a Lancaster Mk III in RNZAF Squadron 75 markings whilst on a daylight raid in late 45 to the Eagles Nest in Bavaria.

I would then present the painting to my father who flew Lanc's in this squad and raid.

Why this mission. It was his last operational mission of the war. Something worth remembering. Probably one of his better days - even though he probably didn't know it at the time.

Sorry HotelBushRanger, I have no info apart from the unit which is 9./JG54

That's why I like the picture, it makes you want to know everything about the circumstances in which it was taken.
