Did the Finns ever declare war or even engage US or British forces?

Finland was not in war against the US. England declared war to Finland but no actual fighting was done. The Finns hid some English volunteers of the Winter War from the Germans during the Continutation War...

Did that help?

Stalin tried very hard to get the US and Britain to declare war on the Finns. Roosevelt stood firm and refused. Churchill at first resisted too; he was very sympathetic to the Finns. (He had tried to help them during the Winter War.)

However, the Germans were using bases in northern Finland to attack the North Russia convoys, so with great reluctance Churchill finally went along with it and Britain declared war on Finland. It was strictly a pro forma declaration, to allow Britain to attack the German bases up in the far north of Finland. Hardly any Finns lived in the area (which was mostly populated by small wandering bands of Sami or Lapps) and no Finns were killed or hurt in the attacks.

There was never any combat between British and Finnish forces and the US and Finland were never even technically at war.

Actually the Finns didn´t declare war against anybody. War was declared by the aggressor. Thought in 1941 27 Soviet bombers were shot down in Finnish territory during the peace time between the Winter War 1939-1940 and the Continutation War 1941-1944. Even a Finnish UNARMED airliner "Kaleva" was shot down on it´s route from Tallinn to Helsinki 14.6.1940. At the time Estonia was occupied by the Soviets. Kaleva took off from the Tallinn airfield and 2 Soviet bombers took off right after. Still visual to Tallinn the 2 bombers fly to both sides and shot the airliner down. There were eyeswitnesses to this massacre...

Actually Soviet Union never declared war diplomatically to Finland, they just bombed cities and that was declaration of war for Stalin; for both Winter War and Continuation War.
Then, did Finland declare war to Soviet Union is another question, because Finnish parliament declared that "Finland is now at war with Soviet Union" in 1941. Was that declaration of war or just notice, I´m not sure.

But USA really never declared war against Finland, they did even help Finns to get diplomatic contacts to Soviet embassador in Sweden already in 1943 to discuss about peace, but Stalin wanted unconditional surrending and that was what Finland will never do, negotiations were soon over.
Americans did also sell movies to Finns (secretly of course via Sweden)!.
Finland also refused to cut off Murmansk rail road for Germans, because here was diplomatic agreement between Finns and Americans about this matter; Finns don´t cut tracks and USA doesn´t declare war.

BTW. in autumn 1941 both USA and Britain congratulated Finland for her victories against Soviet Union and succesfull retaking of lost areas. Situation changed soon, when Finns went to originally Soviet lands.

No, the USA might have not declared war against Finland, but Australia and New Zealand did /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
