Does anyone have any opinions on what would be a good card to replace it with. I would like to send $200-300. Thank you

Would you "send" it to me?

Just read some reviews on the top ATI and nVidia cards in that price range. This is the best way for you to decide. (Read more than just a couple.)

Radeon 9800pro:

http://www.buyxtremegear.com/ati9800128o.html

A 9600 XT is better than a 5700U and a 9800PRO is better than a 5900U:

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTQwLDg=

"One very important aspect you need to consider is price. Utilizing popular pricing engines and retailers we find a solid price on the Albatron FX5900PV is $342. We think this is a very good price for a 5900, no doubt. However, when you compare it to the price you can find the 9800 Pro for, from $307 up to $343, you have to start looking at bang for your buck. Three hundred dollars is a lot of money, and you want to be sure that you are spending it on a video card that will provide the best performance plus image quality and give you the best gaming experience. Judging by the performance accumulated in this review and by the prices at which these cards can be found we find that the 9800 Pro really becomes the smarter buy."

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTExLDE=

I was hoping the 5700U would be an ATI killer but it wasn't so I'd suggest at least a 9600PRO and at your max a 9800PRO for $302 (shipping included).

Heh, you believe in the basics, huh.

Yes, you have 'enough' to get use out of a high-end card. Good luck hunting.

If you like better graphics, higher screen resoultions, higher fps dont buy the nvidias

AA and AF that removes all the jagged edges from the models which makes the game more crisp the nvidias dont perform wellin that category they are cheaper but I'd spend the money on a ati radeon 9700 or 9800 its better then wasting 200-250 on the nvidia and not being happy with it or noticing a giant leap from the ti 4200

Yeah I've been reading those forums. But half the claims seem a bit out of the ordinary to me. I'll dig up examples later.

Watching with great interest since I haven't switched drivers since 3.7.

I'm an ATI convert...although truly I am a power user that will take whatever is best for gameplay. The ATI cards are good, quite good...the arguments over drivers and features and performance are essentially the same for all sides of the equation.

If you are the kind of person (like me) who cares about image quality and playing IL2/FB at high resolutions, Nvidia is definitely the way to go:

<img src=http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/msi_geforce_fx5900-td128_review/images/il2q1600.gif>

edit: whoops copy and paste this to your URL for "the truth"
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/msi_geforce_fx5900-td128_review/images/il2q1600.gif

Alot of people in these forums claim to be using 100xAF with their "ATI Radeons" and everything is "smooth as silk and never looked better" but when I PM them and ask them what their "texture mipmap filter" is set to they tell me "trilinear" which means they aren't even using AF at all (emperor's new clothes). It's funny what people will believe just because they want to.

Does anyone have an opinion? Holy smokes, I believe that is the most loaded question posted on this site in a while. Thankfully you only asked about VID cards...lol.

I have the same exact card, ( gf4 ti4200 ) and am looking to upgrade. For the best bang for your buck, I would go with the Ati Radeon 9600 XT. These have just been released and are a little better than the GF5700's. Prices start at $198.00 (US) online for the ati card. I hope to be picking one up soon. Plus with this ati card, in the box you get a voucher for a free copy of hl2 when it is released. ( for those of you that care )

Why go from a 4200 to a 9600. Thats not that big of an upgrade.

I just replaced my GF4Ti4400(sold) with a GF3Ti200(old)

Whoa!

Whoever said this sim is CPU dependant is crazy. It may be CPU dependant 5% of the time, but 95% of the other times a smoking video card is the difference.

My FX5900 order got delayed a month (bait and switched by Exteme Gear) It's still a good price though $230. Can't find the MSI 5900 for less than $280 right now.

Oleg limits QMB to 32 aircraft so you won't see the CPU limitation of FB. Enough aircraft and ground units for an immersive frontline environment brutally takes down the 8900/5900 FB Pro simmer to the same level as the Integrated Trident Video FB simmer.

3 Reasons that I need to upgrade, because of the fact that I beta test new games that are coming out and have came out.......
1. I need a 128mb vid card
2. Need dx9 card
3. need a card that is decent for some AA, FSAA

I second the MSI 5900 TD. It's awesome. I'm running 1600x1200 with 2X AA and 4X AF and my frame rate is totally smooth. It's been rock solid too.

After you read this, you can change your name to "1-Clue".

Dont upgrade unless your old card is dead or you simply need bragging rights.

The way I have it figured, if my card had not lost its capacitors, I would have stayed with it untill the next-gen cards hit the market. Why? Because the net gain in performance IN IL2FB is not worth the upgrade cost.

I shyt thee not.

I'm happy with the 5700U I bought WITHIN other games, but FB performance still isn't much better than what I had before.

Oh sure, I can get 25 fps with 'perfect' settings, but who cares? Perfect mode is a hinderance of monumental proportion! You just can't spot enemies as easily in perfect mode.

Once you downgrade in-game detail to the point of getting exceptional visibility, you find that the Ti4200 is more than enough video card for FB.
