Just a tip, Google has a patent search engine where you can search through US patents. If you got some time to kill why not browse and look at the inventions in aviation. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Example: airplane by Adolph Papritz, patent filed 1938 :

Some weird airplane/helicopter wing hybrid by Albin Erickson, filed 1928:

Check out this 'bomb projection apparatus' by John Wilton filed 1943! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif:

I find these patents kinda cute. These folks lived in a world where folks could still "tinker" in the garage and come up with something extraordinary. Lord knows that's one thing I miss from those times. The idea that with enough thought and ingenuity, anything could be conquered. Space, poverty, gravity, war, all the scourges of man could be laid low with SCIENCE!!!!!!

That first one is (from what I get) actually practical, model jet planes often use a ducted fan instead of a true jet engine.

That catapult tho.. lol. I smell another what-if addon!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
