View Full Version : .50 cal guns still undermodelled

These guns are still weak in the game, even though they won the war! Come on Oleg! I can't even knock out a Panzer III with .50 cals and this is not acceptable.

Well, if the guns on the P-47 were able to be focussed instead os pray and spray, ground targets would be toast...

True, they spray all over. Why? Aren't there some .50 sniper rifles out there?

They were supposed to be used as an all-around weapon but are only useful against aircraft.

The .50 cal is not an AT weapon.

The .50 cal IS an anti tank weapon. It would have been capable of penetrating the 10mm turret roof of an early MkIII or MkII with a 0 deflection. Good luck getting that shot though.

Works well on P11s.

You shouldn't be able to knock out a Pz III with it
unless you get a 90 degree shot on a thin part
of it. That basically means a 90 degree dive. After
all, if .50s were so effective against tanks, then rather
than mount 37mm cannon on Ju87s or IL2s for tank killing,
they would have mounted MG131s, MG151-15s or something in
larger numbers.

The USN tested .50s versus a convoy of disused trucks.
It left just one smouldering. This was, perhaps, a poorer
than normal showing from the .50, but it shows that
sometimes an apparent lack of damage can happen in
reality. Against soft targets such as trucks in FB the
.50 is effective.

You can take out a soft target if you shoot the tire with a .22.

I want to waste tanks man!

Maybe on a blue moon with all the planets aligned you might take out a tank via the soft under belly with a .50 call.. But you could also win the loto today too! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

That's why they are on the endangered species list.

It's the .50 cal's fault.

.50s

.303s

20mm

all extremely weak and need to be fixed asap.

the other day in the yak1 i had my cannon and top right gun shot out and with the one small mg was able to explode 2 109f4s, no recoil at all in vvs guns and the 109s were 40 to 60 away somethings very very wrong here.

try that with 20mm to even shoot down any plane

or 303s downing a he111 online with exact convergence

You're kidding me, take a P-40 against an Mc-202, the .50's rip off the wings with a short burst!!!

Then .50 cal surely can destroy X-wing or Tie-fighter and you are correct.

the .50s rip apart the il2 pretty good but you run out of ammo on yaks and la7s

theres a big difference in a AI bailing from a short burst offline and a real player flying online

I suggest you fly online

try

p11 vs p11

hurricane iib vs stuka or he111

p40 or jug vs 190 la7 yak and lagg

then comeback http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Works for me offline. You can even get He-111s to
explode if you fire underneath the wing root.
Online you can run into all sorts of packet loss issues.
4 20mm cannon on the Hurricane IIc - very powerful.

Yes, people stay in their planes online long after
any real pilot would have jumped!

If you are having specific issues online, it would
be worth looking to see if you are getting lots of
dropped packets. Sometimes routers can cause problems
with packets being delayed, and then rejected, or being
lost altogether. (I experience this intermittently - not
sure if it is my ISP or the router firmware, though).
Also virus software running can cause packets to be
delayed.

agree, that they are under powerfull .. just check Yak1 with a single UBS, much better than Jug with 8x .50cals.. Though don't think that you can destroy king tigers with these things..

"next time your on HL test them with me, you sound like you dont fly enough if you dont notice these things."

Why?

Speculations:

1. Because online shooting does less damage than offline
2. Because lot of online time will bend the definition of objective truth
3. Because someone who doesn't fly for long is obviously more stupid than me
4. Because I think I am a good shot, so whatever problem the game offers, is probably the game's fault

...

Interesting, eh?

I'd rather buy a better online connection & PC before flying hours and hours and whine hours and hours.

Long playing time doesn't guarantee your skill. And obviously you are the bad example.

Didn't you said you're disappointed and leaving? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Yes, packet loss/delay is quite common!

I've not had a lot of online time with FB in the past
3 months, but I've been playing online flight sims
since AW 3 in 1998. The 'rubber bullet' syndrome was
a hot topic for debate in Warbirds 2 from when I
started playing that in 1999 until that game stopped
being supported bu iEN. We seem to be seeing the
same rubber bullet syndrome online in FB. It's not
exactly a new behaviour never seen before in online
games.
