Guys i have left my dream of ever flying the 109, i know that it will never happen, but is it possible to just sit in one? i live in sweden but i would gladly go to some other country like the us just to be able to sit in onehttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif , just look at it http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload8/109G-2_cockpit.jpg for example cant you try that one on the pic if you ask?, i love the 109 and it would be a realy big thing for me to be behind that stick, i just have to sit in one just one time in my life, for real http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

How do you adjust the gunsight?

Sometimes I feel like a noob.....Sometimes I don't.

regards,
Robert

PS. Looking at the picture you realize HOW SMALL and VULVERABLE those planes were. The cockpit window sill were at your shoulders. SMALL SMALL SMALL. Amazing the bravery to fly one of those into battle.
Once you go Track....you never go back

Took my girlfriend to an airshow this summer in Roskilde (EKRK) in Denmark. We flew in ourselves, since we're both pilots it seemed like a proper way to arrive http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

After the airshow, on our way back to our plane, we passed 5 guys struggling to push the "Bf-109" that had flown in the airshow (actually the Duxford Buchon) into a hanger for the night. Not late to realise the opportunity to get "hands-on experience" with at least the 109 parts (careful now, don't touch the Merlin parts, you might soil your hands), we naturally offered our assistance http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

After a lot of shoving, groaning, sweating (that thing is heavy, really heavy) we managed to get the "109" inside. Who gets to try out the cockpit?? My girlfriend of course!!! Oh the humanity http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

Note very smug look on girlfriend's face.

*Almost* sat in the 109E that was restored and now in Berlin Deutches Museum AFAIK, but at least managed to sit on the Belgrade 109Gs wings.

I believe I saw some vids in some German museum with a 109G, G-4 as I recall, standing in the museum hall, restored to *PERFECT*, brand-new looking state, and people were sitting into it, making vids etc.

Edit : Appears to be Luftfahrtmuseums Hannover-Laatzen. Search for the vid here :

Cannot see the interest myself, though I have sat in various aircraft through my job..

But having said, that I do see people drooling at the Idea, that is why I arranged for a member of these forums and his dad to pop over and have a guided tour, look around and sit in a Spitfire to try it out for size.......... I had originally arranged for them to be taken out onto the flight line at Duxford to get up close with the Spit and several other aircraft, but due to Unservicabilities it never came off.

Indeed I even provided one member of the forums with a car parking ticket for the weekend for a car of 5 to go to Duxfod and park in the VIP car park for free..........

see, I ain't all bad http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Sat in a G-2 of the Messerschmitt Stiftung (only for static display) a few years back. I surely couldn't have flown this one as my shoulders are just too broad. I felt like stuck in a bench vise http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

She is very lucky, so are you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I would also love just to sit in a 109 cockpit or any warbird's cockpit for that matter. There is something extra special about the 109 though and i would love to wrap my fingers around a real KG13. Guess i'll just have to save up (A LOT) for one of these:

I was lucky enough to sit in a freshly restored FW-190 A5 a little while ago.

I must admit it was a dream of mine, come true. I had to do a bit of research, travel and some begging and scraping to make it happen, but boy was it worth it.

Sitting in that cockpit and winding the canopy closed and trying the stick and rudders was awesome, I don't think I would have liked to go to war in it though. Balls of steel required.

Yeah, if you can do it!

Stood right next to one under restoration and it had its wings off.....natural habitat you know.

Yes, it looked tiny and vulnerable. Brave souls tried to escape the marauding six-shooters with those deathtraps.

You know if you don't ask you don't get.

Most museums are run by people that are enthusiastic about what they display but have a boring time watching moronic brats dropping litter and pawing their exibits.

When I go to the Le bourget air museum in Paris I first go to the reception and ask to see the curator because I'd like to look in the cockpit of a particular plane. I explain that it's for personal interest as I'm flying it in simulator and want to see the real thing.

If he's in and not busy and you are patient enough to wait an hour or two he will take you to the plane, open it up and tell you whatever he knows about it's history, restoration or so on - so you get a personal tour.

The rules are that you ask first, pick one particular plane you know they have, ask in advance (if I was traveling from another country I'd write a month beforehand), be polite and persistent. Make sure it is clear that this is personal interest, not for publication and that the pictures will not be broadcast on the web.

Dressing sensibly (shoes in particular), not having green hair and a safety pin through nose also seems to help.

Of course it may not work for you - but if you don't try...

I had the chance so sit in a bf109G2 and fw 190A8. It was in a museum in Laatzen ( Germany ). Some other members of the JG4 were also there. Here are some pics: http://www.jagdgeschwader4.de/Kasino/Ausflug/Hannover/Index.htm

If you're the guy in the avatar, I wouldn't let you even touch a Spitfire, and that's a n00b's airplane!

..... Great photos Helofly. I've travelled to Hannover four or five times and never knew this museum existed. Stupid me. Where is the museum in relation to the Messegelaende??

Yeah, if you can do it! And I'm sure you could see no bar interfering with the gunsight view or the overal frontal view, unlike the sim!!! You should have been able to actually see the top of the nose cowling, also quite unlike our sim.
