After my last experience in an electro-boot a few months back, I vowed to avoid them. They seemed to be cursed with problems and accidents.

But curiosity overcame me once again and today I was the proud owner of a brand spanking-new U-2513 (stop tittering at the back).

Before I could even start the engines, the messages "Radar destroyed, sir" and "Radar antenna destroyed, sir" wafted into my ears. We hadn't even left the pen!

After my previous experience with saboutage and malfunctions I had unchecked these options in SH3 Commander.

It got worse. Leaving the pen at 9 knots, following the Vorpostenwatsit, in came the mandatory air-raid, 3 x B-17.

The next thing I know we are submerging! I didn't order that! A panic run to the depth sounder shows we are in only 10 metres of water and I'm not quite quick enough to 'blow ballast'. 'Bump, smack, graunch...' 7% hull damage and still only 1000m from the bunker exit.

My pop-up menu that gives set options when encountering the enemy is checked to 'Maintain current orders', but on this occasion it didn't even appear. No understand why my boat automatically submerged? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

To add injury to insult (sic), as I entered the long fjord NW of Bergen, heading for the open sea, my vorpostenwatsit turned back. I managed to avoid him but in so doing collided with the Raumboot that was escorting a type XXIII on the way in, which altered course at the worst possible moment!

87% hull integrity, flooding, smashed bow tubes etc... Return to base for repairs. This is getting silly... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

KH, I had a dig around my archives, and found something that I might help you. It's quite old, but hopefully you can make out the pertinent pointers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I thought for a moment that I was reading another chapter in the saga of Hans Zupp!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I've now checked the "start patrol at sea" option in Sh3 Commander. I thought Kiel was bad enough to get out of but Bergen just goes on for ever! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

If there was a box for "Start patrol at end of current career" I'd check that one too! It would save me a lot of grief. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

@ klcarroll, something tells me Zupp probably won't make it that far... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Lol at the orders from BDU.

Funny, I never seem to have had that much of a problem with the XXI. It's buggy, yes, it can't hold the right depth, yes, it absolutely sucks in the storm, very true. But mine never submerged on me by accident http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Dönitz sounds strangely courteous in this radio message http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Hmm, you better check the Sperrnetze. Either that, or give SH3 Gen a try.

He was waiting for us on the dockside when we pulled into the body shop for repairs.

He is seen here demonstrating what he wants done with certain parts of Zupp's anatomy! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

@Foe,

You haven't got the navigating officer I have to put with! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Lol @ Doenitz. yes, it is quite clear what he wants to do to Zupp http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

As for navigating officer, I know your pain. Mine once rammed me into a subnet, after which point we headed straight through a minefield. I didn't have time to do the hand motions a-la Doenitz, cause the mine happened to blow up under navigator's post in the control room.

Someone once posted the course their navigator plotted through the Kiel Canal, through land masses and all. Mine did the same once :P And I really did consider securing him to the bow of the boat to test out his navigation http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

I fear that would be Heinrich again: What to do with a Drunken Sailor? (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/3681031976)

It's getting to the point where I'm going to have to put him on 'U-Bay' and PAY someone to take him off my hands! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
