It's been posted a while ago...but
I have to admit, I kinda forgot to check RRG these past few months!

It seems we might have something else to look forward to also next year (hopefully) It seems more and more true now that they've added this little teaser to the site...

This has been up there for probably a year now. The evidence strongly suggests that Galba is in fact Korea. Luthier has often said something and then not gotten around to it (hence the lack of teasers on the site)

Ah yes, the F82 "Twin Mustang".

Actually the Twin Mustang, and the other last gen prop fighters that hopefully will be in the Korean War add on interest me far more than the Mig and Saber do.

Migs and Sabers have been done before, but to be able to fly an F82 or SeaFury...

Bliss.

Does anyone know which aircraft are planned for this add-on (either flyable or non-flyable)?

There were a couple of leaked screens of Sabre... I really hope you're wrong about Luthier. I have been waiting and waiting for this. MiG Alley would be my favourite game without the instability.

One of the devs posted a secret screenie of the F-82 a little while back http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif I cannot remember what folder I put that in... I guess I can mention it because it was done in a public forum. This one I believe.

There is much speculation that the game engine for this add-on will not be that of Il2, but instead will be Storm of War.

an excerpt from the "RRG Studio" web page... <span class="ev_code_PINK">"With the release of the 1946 DVD, containing the Pe-2 Peshka, Sturmoviks over Manchuria, and the 46 add-ons, we are now hard at work on our still-secret Storm of War project, internally codenamed Project Galba."</span>...it looks like it is a "SoW" add-on.

From what I've gleaned, it's more fact than speculation... so BoB would probably come out first, or at least simultaneously with a SoW:Korea. The Il-2 engine would have been easy to use (a number of planes for Korea already modelled), but still with high-altitude issues, not so good for MiG fliers.

(oops, too slow)

I hope they have sorted out the Northrop Grumman problem and we will be able to fly US Navy planes in the sim. Korea with it's combination of jets, high end props and lots of ground supports is definitely a much more interesting scenario for me than just another WW2 sim.

The Hunter entered service in 1954. Unless this could be for some type of 1946 spinoff to the Korean war. Oh wait that was called Viet Nam. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

There were requests for pictures and information on the Meteor a while back as well. Hopefully they found all they were looking for!

....Galba is in fact Korea...

I am still hoping that it is... Yea there are the few Korea sims out there, but nothing even close to being 1/2 as good as IL2 and all its incarnations are.

And to have a Korea based sim, on the new engine?

o man, i cant wait http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

Bring on the first gen jet fighters!

What about MiG Alley? It's old, not that attractive- even by the standards of the time- it has some stability issues for quite a few, and it doesn't love my hardware... but it's flat out the most addictive/fun/immersive/well modelled sim I've played. The AI is great, you could spend 6 months just flying the 'instant action' mission. There may only be 5 planes modelled, with a couple of variants, but with the way the 'feel' of '50s aircraft was captured, I never felt a lack.
If Project 'Galba' is 1/2 as good as MA, I'll pay for your copy http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I never really got into it- i duno why either..

I gave that and Sabre Ace a good honest effort, and no matter what, they just didnt do it for me.

As far as I'm concerned, the years spanning WW1 and WW2 were the glory days of air combat. As soon as jets enter the equation it takes a little bit of the fun out.

Prop planes just have the right mixture of class and grit.

How can there still be any doubt that Galba is in fact a Korea sim, considering quotes from dev. team members as this one:

To be honest I found Mig-Alley's terrain gave more of a sense of depth than Il2's

I love WWI and WWII, but the gunslinger days of Korea are also very fascinating: No radar (Or only rudimentary types), no missiles, just you, your guns, and your wingman.

It's gonna be a hard choice between F4U-4/5s and the Sea Fury.

BTW: the -6 was the über-Corsair and the -7 was the low-alt 'sair for the Aéronavale, is that correct?

The F4U-4 was regarded by pilots as the best of the series.

The F4U-5 was the fastest of all the production Corsairs.

The F4U-6 designation was changed to AU-1 since it was a dedicated low altitude ground attack aircraft, it was good at this job. The AU-1 did not have the climb rate, service ceiling or speed of the -5 due to it's heavier armor and the lack of a multi-stage supercharger.

The F4U-7 was built only for the French and was essentially an AU-1 airframe with the engine and supercharger of the F4U-4, performance is said to have been very similar to that of the F4U-4.

The Corsairs can carry more bombs, so the choice shouldn't be that difficult. However the Sea Fury looks very sexy and can carry 12 HVAR style rockets.

I hope all the toys in the late Corsairs will be modeled, like the radio altimeter, anti g-suit , cigarette lighter and ash tray.
