What is the strongest cannon/gun on a flyable aircraft in AE+FB+PF? I think its the Me-262 U4 but i just got PF yesterday and am wondering if there is anything stronger in Pf.

Why do you need the strongest? Its not like they are particularly effective, even for long range bomber busting.

I would say that the strongest cannon is the 50mm mounted on the Schwalbe, but the 45mm on the YAk-9k (? maybe the K can't remember the designation) comes pretty close.

If your after an effective A to A weapon though try a rapid fire 20mm cannon. Accurate, good ballistics and decent damage. The Hispanos are particularly deadly (Spitfire, F4U-C, Hurricane IIc) as are the ShVaK, B-20 (on the La-7) as hopefully will be the Mg151/20 on the 190/109 when the patch is released.

The most feared weapons in fighter to fighter combat (on line at least) are the 30mm mk 108 (nose mounted on the 109, 262 and 110 and wing mounted on the 190) and the 30mm Japanese cannon
on the Ki-84C. These have a high rate of fire, reasonable ballistics and are usually one or two hit kills any fighter target.

The mk-103 was stronger than the 262's weapon. The strongest in the game though HAS to be the howitzer mounted in the 110. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hmmm, I just remembered that one of the B-25 variants mounts a 75mm howitzer in the nose. Pity its only flyable in externals but it would qualify it as the strongest airborne gun in the game.

I think the largest airborne gun in WW2 was in an Italian Piaggio 4 engined bomber. IT mounted a 90mm naval gun designed for anti-shipping duties. IIRC Musolini's son was killed in one flying anti-shipping missions.

Definitely the cannon on the 110 but its completely worthless as an air to air weapon.

The most lethal gun is the one mounted in any plane flown by a very skillful pilot. It only takes a few well placed rounds (any calibur) through the cockpit to dissable any plane.

Need something for ground targets, such as tanks? Carry bombs or rockets.

The largest airborne gun was actually the German Ger├┬Ąt 104. It was was designed for use as an anti-shipping weapon and was a single-shot 35cm recoilless rifle firing a 1400 lb shell.

It would be carried in the bomb bay of either a Do-217 or Ju-288 and swung down into firing position. It used a countershot fired out the back to keep the recoil from ripping the airplane to shreds. From what little information I have even seen, it was never used operationally.

In-game, I think the 75mm AT gun on the Hs-129 it the biggest. Same caliber as the 75mm mounted in the B-25, but it fired a heavier AP shell at a much higher velocity. (It was basically a standard Pak-40 Anti-tank gun lightened and fitted with an autoloader)

BigBear, I find the 40mm gun on the 110 to be quite effective in headon attacks agains bombers (that was it's intended use, after all). You can start shooting effectively far enough out to still have time to break off before being buzzsawed by all the .50s on those -17s and -24s.

I'm going to give that a shot.

Crikey, I must need to go to bed.
The Bf-110 has a 37mm gun available.
The Me-210 is the one with a 40mm.

Forget all those other planes, what we really need is a cockpit for the Hs-129b/Wa!

The Bk 3.7 is efficient vs. soft targets (I've taken B-17's down with a single shot) but the 37mm gun on the Ju-87 G1 is pretty good too. These guns are more or less the same; the difference being the BK 3.7 uses HE rounds and the Stuka's 37mm uses AP rounds.

nice shots.

makes me wonder how those longer shells, spesh that 75mm round, achieved any kind of reliable burn otherwise powder would be roaring out the nose still burning.

puff the magic dragon, indeed.

that would have to be at least half full of a very quick burning powder to get any kind of useful muzzle V.

geezuz that muzzle flash and the smoke resulting from breech loading, would have been bitter in the loaders mouth indeed.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif = said gunner spitting out the rank taste of gunsmoke.

though i do think one of the best smells in the world is after youve fired a 12 gauge, and you get that wispy grey hint of sour sweet gunsmoke in the nostrils... i reload close to my chest every time. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Hallo to everyone who could be interested in this matter: it's nearly true. But Cap. Bruno Mussolini (Benito Mussolini's son) was killed on an emergency landing on August 7th 1941 while he was flying PIAGGIO P 108 B four engined bomber at PISA S.GIUSTO AIRFIELD during a trial flight.
P. 108 A (Artigliere= Gunner) was instead the experimental anti shipping version of the former P 108 B (Bombardiere=bomber): only one airplane of this version was built (MM 24318) on december 1942. It carried a 102/40 gun (a development of 90/53 army gun) with 12 rounds. It was widely tested and was reported as an effective weapon, even if with some recoil problem. It didn't fly operational sorties: armistice on sept. 1943 stopped further evaluation. It was ferried by Luftwaffe pilots to Muhldorf airport where it was destroyed by Allies bombing.
I beg your pardon for my english. Thanks to Oleg who succeds in make me fly with the airplane I love more: WWII ones (And I am - quietly- waiting patch 4.0....)

I don't know what you thin guys but one i have to say.... I was trying the other day to destroy bombers with several aircrafts and you know i was aiming the wings or the engines. BUT the most effective cannons i found were the ones in the il-2 series. You may thin that this is weird because the il-2 is a str8 bomber it self but i saw what i saw and that works for me...
