View Full Version : Will the Burned Faces of 1940 RAF BoB SoW be Modelled?

Hi All,

The Spitfire and the Hurricane in the Battle of Britain 1940 had a 28 gallon/60 litre fuel tank in front of the pilot.

It was situated between the instrument panel and the engine.

This caused horrific injuries and death to RAF pilots.

The 109 had a fuel tank behind the cockpit and did not of course have the same effect.

Should I post this on the 1C forum?

Best Regards,

Will they also model the effects if I eat too much sauerkraut and then go flying?

Has there been confirmation of actual pilot model animation in the cockpit? I'm sure it's been mentioned I just don't remember.

Persoanlly I don't find the need for it, and since so few 'blood animations' made it here to the states in IL2/FB et al, I doubt burned faces would be modeled into BoB

This was the biggest fear for the Romanian pilots flying the IAR-80/81 as well.
The IAR had a big fuel tank in front of the pilot as well. When hit if it cought fire the flames went straight into the cockpit.
It was much better after they instaled self sealing fuel tanks and armor.
Quite a few IAR-80/81 pilots burned to ashes because of that forward fuel tank. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Even in this game the IAR-80 has no self sealing fuel tanks and if that tank catches fire you fry in the pit rather quick.

Didn't they discover afterburners that way?

I just read something in a bookstore this afternoon..a pilot of 603 Sqn became an ace during BOB, then was shot down himself. Sustained burns. KIA in the beginning of '43 I believe. Had surgery in America. Face and hands had suffered severe.
For a game like BOB, I don't think so.

No way will Oleg do that.

Implementing that sort of graphics would probably get the game banned in a lot of countries the moment it hit the market.

It's not coincidence that there are no swastika's in the standard game and highgore=1 does not work anymore.

Besides, it would set the grass on fire - all that effort for nothing - no fire

Will the Burned Faces of 1940 RAF BoB SoW be modelled....

Why, do you get off on that? Even the pilots of the time couldn't bear to think to much on those things. Do you suggest we have Gestapo HQ with real torture techniques occuring, so we can go bomb them in a virtual mosquito? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

I don't think the game would be better for having a graphic display like that. It wouldn't really add any value to the game play. I do think having the pilots and crew slumping over after getting hit does help in determining if your opponent is out of action.

No, let's just continue in this way : Will one of your arm or your leg fly through the cockpit if it is hit by a 20mm round? Will the blood be sprayed all around the instrument panel in that case? It could be SOOOOOO fun ! Plus burning your face ! Broking your legs and your face hitting the instrument panel on a crash landing? Will your pilot scream to death when your plane is burning? Will parachuted pilots explode into pieces if you hit them after bailing out with your guns? Or sawn if he fly through the propeller?

Any other good idea of violence?

I think you need a Saitek ProFlight flamethrower plus

you can find it here:
http://www.saitekusa.com/products/foryallmazochists.html

Just connect it via USB -plug'n'play- and start Il2. As soon as you're plane is on fire, it will throw flames in your face. Quite realistic, isn't it? I bet I would think twice before making a move with such a device plugged in http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

ctrl+S, you could map a set of keys to take the webley out and blow your brains out. You should be able to see the splatter against the inside glass when you go external.
