View Full Version : So who killed COOPs in HL?

Is it something to do with the current state of FB or are people just more interested in airquake these days? I can (almost) never seem to find a COOP in HL lately.

I do have to say that at least there are some decent DF servers around with limited icons and cockpit only among other types for different tastes.

While I'm on the topic, does anyone expect a solution to the problem of externals in COOPs? Shouldn't externals only be enabled after you are killed/landed instead of always enabled?

The scripted dogfight servers have killed the coops. External veiw is the hosts choice.

I'm always interested in a good coop mission, to play or host.

They are fun to make, and allow an outlet for creativity. It is very enjoyable to conceive of an idea for a coop, then get into FMB and make one. Testing a fresh coop is fun, too, to get the timing right, and try to acheive balance. You can "play" a coop from inside FMB, and switch around the different planes and static cameras, to see how the scenario plays out. You can see some great action that you just won't see in a dogfight room. You can also pretend to host, and play one slot in a coop, while the AI flies all the other slots, which is also fun.

Coop's provide the kind of action you can't get in a dogfight server.

I agree, and wish more people would at least join in coop's. They don't know what they are missing.

Roger on the scripted dogfight servers. Coops died a quick death. They're quite handy for squadron training though, and I still think they deliver more in terms of immersion than scripted d/f servers, but the convenience is too tempting for most.

I have to say that I prefer online wars over both.

Actually JG27_Hyper killed co-ops when he put them on a separate page from the main.

A shame.

I thought it might have something to do with something not right currently with FB but being a separate "room" makes sense.

I do enjoy the scripted servers though when there aren't any coops to be found but it really doesn't have the immersion and sense of "self-preservation" that coops tend to have.

Hopefully an influx of new HL'ers after the patch will help.

What we really need are some quick coops - like scrambles and so on. I bet that'd be popular. Hey why don't I do one right now...

I think some folks are returning to coops, I am starting to play and host them more, so are some other piggies. For once I agree with RBJ too, having coops on the next page doesnt help. BP coops are open to the public so look for us.

ubi killed them, since coops and scripted games run like your on a 1200 baud even with a t1, hopefully after the patch they will pick up

My squad and I always do COOPs. I tend to do scripted servers when alone. And airquakes really are annoying these days.
As for externals there should be an option to switch on externals only for killed players, Unfortunately, it cannot yet be done. A point for Olegg?

Yup... Jiri should've left at least one coop window on the main page.... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
