i am looking forword to the new bob sim but there does not seem to be a lot of planes you can get into and fly!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif i have seen most of the websites about the sim but it seems to be all ai so far!! is there a new update to what going to be in the game when it comes out.

When the sim first comes out, there will be just those planes that historically appeared at the Battle of Britain. Then other theaters of operation will be added. I believe Oleg said, 'we will go around the world again with add-ons and updates.' Just like they did with IL 2.

Actually there is a fair number when you consider that its all new and that the theater covered is a very specific period of time.

We know roughly that the flyables will be:

Hurricane Mark I
Spitfire Mark I
Blenheim Mark IV

Bf109E-3
Bf110C
He-111H-1
Ju-88A-1

Cr.32
G.50

I'd say thats an excellent mix of fighters and bombers for the sim. All in a very high level of detail. I'm not sure if thats more than when IL-2 came out or not...I can't remember. But I'm sure that Battle of Britain is just the very beginning of a long series that will addon with more and more aircraft. Seeing as they are still spending quite a bit of time developing the technology you can bet that efforts to build new planes will allow larger selections in the future.

Well, there weren't an awful lot of aircraft to fly in IL-2 when it was first released, either. But look how much it has developed since then.

I wouldn't let that discourage you from trying out BoB when it's released, if I were you...

I'm sure that all the different goodies that we will see, and have, will more than makeup for limited aircraft. New aircraft will follow, as sim progreses http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Either way , would it kill them to have a demo like for the original il*2?

I don't see why there won't be.

FB/AEP/PF didn't really need a demo since it was so similar to IL-2.

Yea I just think it would be cool to have a demo cause i like to see if stuff runs good on my comp before i get it .

In the end does it matter? We all know that everyone is going to buy it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

yea yes it does matter because if I play the demo I'll prbably find out it don't run good on my aging comp and won't get it.

It's called incentive.

You load up the demo and find your comp is a bit too pokey; VOILA' instant incentive to save for a new computer.....or even better build your own.

Yeah a demo would be a VERY good idea. The reason I bought into this game was because the IL-2 demo was fully featured and let me experiment with it for a while. You had a few hours of gameplay in it...even the QMB available with a small number of flyable aircraft. I learned alot and got into the style of the game. Coming from where I did...I never would have gotten FB cold turkey.

Knightflyte, I don't believe your second point can be empahsised enough. One can build twice the system with less dough than if they bought a manufactured system off the shelf. Once you successfully build your first rig, you will NEVER buy a pre-built again!

PLANEMAD, if you are running FB+AEP+PF version 4.05m for example, then that should serve as some sort of barometer on how your current rig wil run BoB. So, if you're running the sim at reduced detail levels to get decent performance then you can bet that by the time BoB is avalable you will need a hardware upgrade.

I have become so spoiled rotten with all the ac we have now that are flyable, that BoB isn't looking all that great too me. We can, and have, simulated the BoB with some fantastic user made campaigns already. I have a feeling our current sim, when finished, will still have long legs even after BoB is released. I know my squadron isn't going to jump on the BoB bandwagon right away. The new game engine and higher graphics will be nice, but it isn't enough incentive for us to make the switch right away imho.

I agree. Il-2 will be around for a long time to come. There are gonna be a lot of people that don't have the money to build or buy a new rig Personally, I'd like to get BoB, but I find it unlikely that it will run on my rig and I won't (can't) be updating for sometime to come.

Better to have a few planes which are almost perfect, than a lot which are not.

Oleg will continue to add planes through the series again, just like the Il2 series.

It wont be long before we have many planes to play with http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Good fixes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes we've seen a Ju-87 cockpit WIP as well so good chance on that and same with the others. I think I can see the reasons for these choices as all of them will be useful in the North Africa/Med scenarios that they plan to add later.

and before a toPayFor MTO AdOn perhaps some 1941-42 plane AdOns , for the same existing channel map - like:

HurricaneIIc
Spitfire Mk.Vb '41
Spitfire Mk.Vb '42
Spitfire F.Mk.XIc (Merlin 61)
Whirlwind
Mustang Mk.I
Boston III

Bf109F-2
Bf109F-4
Bf109G-1
Fw190A-3
Ju88A-4

RAF leaning into France and Dieppe...........

and how would about some USAAF for 1943, flyable B-17E or F and early P-47D.

actually sure some others would have other planes in mind and even than is pure phantasie.................. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

@Quazi

Then how about when everyone enthuses over 6DOF? Will you be bale to hold off? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

I really think that SOW will have so much extra to offer that the limited plane set will be no prob. Dynamic weather, a better FMB, better AI, etc etc. Oh, and 6DOF. Six DOF. Ooohhhhh.

This is the POINT.

More quality over quantity in initial release. This has been disucssed at length with the creator of the sim. You are getting higher quality models instead of a great number of aircraft on initial release.

SoW:BoB will not be Il2 or Il2FB or PF, so don't expect it to be

Neither is it Star wars galaxies, Gran tourismo 3, nor virtua fighting 4...etc etc ad nausium

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Actually its a lot like it mate.

Release a brilliant sim, have a few flyables. Have a decent amount of Ai craft. Continue the series through a number of years with conitued developments and expansions to introduce new maps, new craft and further updates.

Its just the next gen of this sim.

Its the same concept mate.

Yea, this is what one of my squadm8s was telling me last night, and he has a point, as well as you. 6DOF would be nice to experience.
