Someone was aking about the 50cal ammo load-out as practiced in the Pacific by the USN. The following is excerpted from a commentary by Tom Blackburn, who flew F4U's for the USN in the Pacific:

QUOTE -

We bore sighted the guns to converge with the horizontal line of sight at 200 yards. Since the guns were some six feet below the gunsight, this of course required some mental adjustments to the point of aim, especially at longer ranges, such as during strafing. Tracers were of significant help, although with air targets they were somewhat deceptive. One was never quite sure of what portion ofthe bullet's flight was being seen. Ou standard belting was armor-piercing / armor-piercing incendiary / tracer.
