Many of the Japanese fighters I've tried flying so far have a blacked out gun sight. It is very annoying. It's like the lens cap has been left on.

What's going on?

How can I turn the gun sight on? How do I remove the lens cap?

It has been left on; you have to remove it before use. Hit CNTRL+D (as I recall). I believe that it is the same key combo that moves the reticle dimmer into place on the Luftwaffe planes.

Please cite the page where this information is found in the .PDF manual that is included with the game.

Please cite the page of the ReadMe where this information is included.

I just looked at these resources in my 1946 directory, and the lens cap seems to be an undocumented feature. I even looked under D3A1 Val and Ki-27 in the Aircraft Guide and there is no mention of the gunsight cover.

The only information that comes close is on the back side of the Controls.pdf. The exact key command reads: "Toggle Reticle Dimmer (German Planes)."

<drcox>Then maybe, JUST MAYBE, you could find the two brain cells required to make a connection between a gunsight dimmer and a gunsight cover.</drcox>

Dude that's totally not in the Manual, just because it's new pilot question no. 3 (right behind "Why can't I raise the gear on my Wildcat?" and "My plane won't move when I try to takeoff from a carrier!!") doesn't mean you need to get all "RTFM! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif" That's a pretty obscure bit of arcania.

And that guy in your sig needs to put on a helmet or something!

You should really take it easy http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif. We were all noobs once and had to ask Q's like his http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif. I only figured it out by trying every button combo in the control panel http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif sorry I forget that some people around here are born knowing IL2 inside and out like you.

Is it possible to ban someone by popular vote? It ought to be.

I asked about that wildcat gear just two days ago, while flying on-line...
Luckely I had entered a total beginner server (ukdedicated) and recieved friendly help...

Oh and the gunsite is SHIFT-F1...

Thank you for your help. you have solved my problem.

I do believe the lack of documentation regarding this feature is scandalous. A very major oversight.

For about two weeks before realising how to do it, I flew with the cap on and tried to cover the target with it. Amazingly, though, I didn't kill anything.

At least the info about the F4F landing gear and flaps is mentioned in the aircraft guide.

Look in the dictionary under "caustic" and you'll find a picture of an orangutan with the caption, "LStarosta."

Please, Mr. "... please call me Luke", would you kindly dispense with the vitriol? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
