Sadly, all further work on Knights of the Sea was dropped some months ago before E3. The game will not be released as you see there. An arcade shoot em up may however be made with what is left after the company collapsed. The news was discussed here some time ago. Perhaps you missed it.

Sorry for the bad tidings http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

Feathered_IV... Thank's for the Impending New's Up-Date. I just read a report also that my Pinto was safe to drive after all these years on the same web site. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Monty_Thrud... Still not sure of a date yet. Hopefully we'll be hearing some news though.

Correction...

Quote... SUBSIM: The idea for PT Boats has been cooking at Akella for quite a while, since 2001. It now appears PT Boats is your current project. When did full development get underway?

Akella: We've been developing the game for 4 years already and as we're planning, the game will hit the store shelves by the end of the year December 2007.

I have indeed. I'd like to do a WAAF ground controller. Unfortunately my own voice is a little husky and no one has volunteered to read the lines. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I heard that if it was released at all that it would be a shoot-em-up console type game and not the sim type that it was originally planned to be. So which type is it going to be? A sim type or a shoot-em-up type? I have been looking forward to this title for ages!

Choctaw111... Here is an article from GameShark.com about KotS.

A closer look at this World War II naval combat game from Akella. (http://www.gameshark.com/pc/previews/3191/PT-Boats-Preview.htm)

By the way... Some of Oleg's team helped with the devolopment of this game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Is this a reason for the delay in the "final patch" for IL2? And BTW, I know we won't get the ship variety (we deserve) for 46 but will they incorporate those ships and ship DM's in BoB? I sure hope so.

Finally, at least on YouTube, I didn't think that the difference between DX9 and DX10 was all that great. In fact it looked like they might have reversed the sides because to my eyes the 9 side often looked better than the 10 side. (Or do you need Vista to see the difference?) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yes. I had read about Oleg supplying some of the models quite some time ago http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I saw my PBN1 Nomad (PBY Catalina) model in one of the early screenshots. I dont know if they are still using any of the IL2 models, but Oleg did confirm they did use some IL2 aircraft models. Like the He-111, FW-200, and PBY.

Give me an E-boat!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif Pin 'em down with MG's and sink em with depth charges. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif
I've read somewhere that it was a common tactic to go to a target at full speed, keeping it pinned with cannon and MG fire and sink them by dropping depth charges close by. How cool is that? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

-HH- Beebop... Yes it's been a bit of a wait in line for this title to appear! LoL But I truely believe it has been worth the wait. We'll see soon enough.

but will they incorporate those ships and ship DM's in BoB?

Good question... the modeling for ships, Boats, building and other idems that has been shown for KotS is very accurate and well done. It would be Great to see some of this incorperated into BoB/SoW. But that would be up to Managment. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Gibbage1... I know from past articles and interviews that the team working on KotS stated that they would use some aircraft from IL-2. Whether they have keep these in the game they haven't stated lately.

Platypus_1.JaVA... I also readed about the same tactic... but not sure where.

I believe tactics and maneuver will play a big part of winning in this game. It would be Great if we can change the weapons systems to suit the missions.

A FEW MEMORIES OF MY TIME ON MTB 694

53rd DOGBOAT' FLOTILLA

Link: http://www.mikekemble.com/ww2/mtb694.html

Another time just before D-Day we were operating out of Portsmouth and just off the French coast, the weather was atrocious what the hell could we do in weather like this.

Of the three of us two boats had to return with engine trouble so we thought good show we get to go home but someone had other ideas we were told to join up with HMS Retallick K555, a new frigate just out from the states so we found our frigate and fell in astern of her it was all we could do to keep station with her, When all of a sudden we got a WT message from the Frigate that E boats were in the area and with that the frigate applies full speed and turns away from us we at that moment are attacked by what appeared to be a strong force we did not like this at all I don't know why we got separated from the frigate maybe I can now see that it may have been sea conditions.

You cannot turn a very fast boat into a head sea without expecting something rather tragic to happen and I have stated that the seas were very heavy our boat just should not have been there..... there were E-Boats lots of 'em using the bad weather to escape so they were desperate men we were looking at and we are alone we reduced speed I would now estimate our speed at about 10 knots, when again another event is about to be played out, I was on the bridge at this time and could hear what came over the radio so I was pretty well filled in as to what was happening. Above the noise of the weather a number of voices reported a ship dead astern of us all heads turned and I know my heart stopped a German Destroyer is about to run us down guns firing.... the only gun that could fire at 180 degrees was the six pounder and it didn't fire. The " Jimmy" told me to prepare to depth charge the Ship. I had best explain that you can sink surface ships with depth charges, if you have special drums attached to them to stop them sinking at a fast rate. The idea is that you put yourself in front of the enemy and drop your charges and hope that the ship would be over the top of them when they exploded. We had such devices on our two depth charges I rushed as fast as I could and on hands and knees I set the lowest depth setting and held onto the key on both charges, of course the skipper had given full speed ahead but the distance did not change very much We are not having a good time I am aware of the boat being hit and I am scared I waited for the order to let the charges go and if it came I would not hear it, impossible to hear it over the engine noise and the guns, so what do I do? (the charges could be released from the bridge also, I was a back up if the release failed ) the rotten thing it's bows as big as a house I could almost touch it, was almost on top of us. It was plunging up and down like some wild thing intent on eating us. If I let them go now I couldn't miss I could hear the thuds as we were being hit and I am on the open deck I was thinking I had to make up my mind to let them go when the ship turned away from us and we reduced speed. I crawled back to the bridge to discover the ship was "all the fives" our Frigate HMS Retallick K 555 who thought we were an E-Boat.

Awesome story, woofiedog -
Scary times, indeed!
This kind of post is one of the main reasons I like this forum so much - it can bring the old stories from the war back to life for those of us who are lucky enough not to have been there.
If I was old enough to be fighting during the war, I might have a very different outlook on it from the 'fascination' that I mainly have for it now. I have seen war, though, nothing on the scale of WW2, but it is definitely not nice!
Thanks again for sharing that, woofie!!
http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

BTW, I've spoken with 1C, and the game is still under development, they can't give us a release date yet - my local PC mag slates it for a Q4 2007 release, so maybe for Christmas?

Yet another great find woofiedog. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif You have a gift! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

That was an exciting story and certainly gave me a glimpse of the sheer terror of war and how easily mistakes could be made.

Nothing wrong with that approach, Doug, but I just spoke to one of the 1C guys today, and he reassured me the game will be released, he's just not at liberty to give me the release date yet. I believe him, but as you say, we can only wait until it is released.
