View Full Version : New damage to me.

I read a lot of posts on these forums about how the little things still amaze people after a few years of playing this game, yet I still thought to myself that I had seen everything that this game had to offer.

My girlfriend likes to fly occaisionally when she comes over and it took her superior shooting skills to show me some new damage that I hadn't seen before. She was in an La7 shooting at a P38 when I saw there was only one propeller left on the 38. I've seen engines stop dead before, but this is more than dead:

I've been playing IL2 for a long, long time and I was just surprised.

I wish I had made screens of all the damage I received over the years in this game. The details really are amazing.
Here are a few that I have.

I'm not sure when I noticed it or when it actually was implemented in the game, but I've seen it happen on the He-111 and TB-3 as well.

The first time I saw the engine falling from a plane, I had to do a double-take to make sure I was seeing what my eyes were telling me I was seeing. I thought, "Wow, that's an awful lot of debris falling to the ground flaming..."

Then, I went back and viewed the track and thought, "Will this sim EVER cease to amaze me?!?!"http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

YP-80 nose blown is also interesting. After I received that kind of damage (by Bf109Ks 30mm shell) I just push my throttle stick and fly away like nothing happened (I have run away from further fight).

Just looked in My Pictures but I have already deleted that pics. Some sight..

I'me pretty sure I've seen it on every twin engine bomber in the game. The YP-80 shot is interesting. I run alot of FMB and QMB missions with B24's and B17's, and keep waiting for some flak (I always put in alot of flak) to blow off the nose turret/greenhouse, but have never seen that. I wonder if its modelled but is just very rare. Anyone know? The YP-80 shot gives me hope.

Also C-47 have the same nose 'problem'.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

But unfortunately, when I hit one he just fell from the sky like a brick with no further damage to the aircraft, except from blow nose (I admit that I maybe upset C-47 crew a bit with draught problem, but.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

Do you also have a pink skin for that La7?!? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I used to take allot of ribbing for flying the La7, too. I didn't stop flying it because of that though. It mattered not what others thought.

I only switched because my favorite plane of all time was added to the mix....Spitfire Mk IX Clipped Wing version.http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

She loves messing around in QMB. She's graduated from shooting down bombers to trying to maneuver with fighters and is aching for more. So naturally for her first fighter encounter I had to give her the La7. I wanted the enemy to be a fighter, but a bigger target than some of the smaller ones, hence the 38.

She told me her goal is to be able to fly online with me and not embarrass me. It's a far cry from when they just roll their eyes at you isn't it? She's got my full support if she wants to learn. How many guys here can say that their significant other wants to share our hobby?

Mui Excellente'!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

My only luck has been my oldest son taking an interest and my little guy just likes explosions, but to my wife, flight sims are "The Debbil"! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

He used to fly casually with a member of the =AFJ=, during the daytime while I was at work, back in Jane's WWII Fighters. I'm breaking him into this game, but he's got PS2 and women on his college mind these days. So, it's kind of hard to pry him away. Can't say I blame him, lol.

Best of luck to her and I hope she achieves her goal of "not embarrasing you online." Remember, the family that flies together, stays together. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I usually have to keep one ear on the bedroom listening for suitcase zippers, so I can head her off at the pass. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Wow, as luck would have it, my wife came and sat next to me for a little while last night, "to see what the fuss is all about". She was actually impressed with the 3D modeling of the planes and the beautiful water effects of PF.

She also got a little excited when I worked my way out of a two-on-one situation, downing both pilots with my Hurri Mk IIc. It's the little Hurri that could..."I think I can, I think I can, I think I can".http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Hmmmm, maybe I can turn her to the dark side......mwhahahaha!

Next thing you know they'll be in on our poker nights and watching sports with the guys...They're all in cahoots I tell you.

Thanks to Extreme_One's post, I am now afraid that I can't afford to support her habits if she does get hooked. Heck, I have trouble affording the habit for myself.

Actually, I am glad my wife doesnt want to fly! I would have to spend 2x the money to get a good gaming rig for her!

And who would wash the clothes and the dishes if we were both flying? It's bad enough the grass doesnt get cut, but we would have dirty clothes too!?! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm glad to see that more and more people around me get IL2FB for budget price and learn to fly.
I don't know if I'd really like to fly against my girlfriend, though. The close quarter action we do is allready better than IL2 - slightly, but better http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I find this has turned into a somewhat sad thread. I find it great that you and your wife now have something in common, but the comment that Slickstick has to listen for suitcase zippers, even in jest, did not sound funny to me. It really sounds like you're going through a rough time, slickstick, maybe you should work it out with your wife. Honestly I think she's thinking along the same lines I am, from what you said above. Take some time off from PF and spend it with her.

Ok, not very historical but loads of fun nevertheless. Today I was blasting B29's into little pieces from a 190 with Mk103s. I had always noticed the spinning propellers, minus the plane, and decided to follow them down. I opened fire on one and actually hit it. It stopped spinning and I could see the blades were bent. Gotta love the detail. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

You must learn to read satire PBNA_Boosher. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I was having some fun is all. According to my wife, ANY amount of time "wasted" playing a video game, is to her, better spent doing something else. Nothing serious and no need to read more into it than was written in jest.

Sure, sometimes I go a little overboard playing, but trust me, I always make sure I take care of my responsibilities first and only fly when I have the time. I don't make PF my number one priority.

back in my cfs2 days,i used to ask my wife if she wanted to try and fly....'huh,looks stupid' was the reply...then she tried it,got hooked and ended up being the prefered wing'man' for my old vf20,BOA & other flying buddies...she was in my old squad too.
now i'm back into flying again(after almost 4 years of running around in mohaa).
She has flown PF and at the moment is having trouble, but i'm sure she will practice, then i'll have to watch my six,as you guys may http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
