Das Boot is the only Submarine movie I've seen and remember. I think I saw Operation Petticoat when I was really young but I don't remember it except for a pink submarine:P

Could any of you reccomend some?

I reccomend: "Destination Tokyo" also with Cary Grant made during ww2, "Operation Pacific" with John Wayne in this they work on the torpedo detonation problems at pearl, "Run Silent Run Deep" with Burt Lancaster and Clark Gable, and "Torpedo Run" with Ernest Borgnine.

You are right with the pink sub in "Operation Petticoat" it has Cary Grant in it, it was made in 1958 it is also very good

There's another movie that is not all that well known called Hellcats Of The Navy (http://imdb.com/title/tt0050500/). It's stars Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis. It's the only movie that the two of them ever starred in together. The movie is is about the US Submarine invasion of the Sea of Japan in 1945.

Though not a WII sub movie, I suggest watching Crimson Tide (http://imdb.com/title/tt0112740/).

Plot Outline: Controversy boils over when Soviet rebels point nuclear weapons at the United States, and a message for the nuclear-missile sub U.S.S. Alabama gets cut off during transmission. Capt. Frank Ramsey (Gene Hackman) thinks he's been ordered to launch a pre-emptive strike, while Lt. Cmdr. Ron Hunter (Denzel Washington) believes the submarine has been ordered to stand down. Will the Alabama prevent a nuclear holocaust, or start one?

Another submarine movie (though a bit far fetched and not WW2) is Hunt for Red October. I think it is a fine action movie

Thank you for mentioning this movie, next to Das Boot, this is my Favorite movie. Gene Hackman does an excellent job. I would have loved to see an alternate ending to CT tho. What would have happened ? ooooohh http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

RUN SILENT, RUN DEEP!. I had mentioned it yesterday. Stars Clark Gable as Capt. Richardson and Burt Lancaster as LCDR Jim Bledsoe. The plot has Gable taking over Bledsoe's boat to hunt and destroy "Bungo Pete" a Japanese Destroyer that took out his first sub. It will remind you of Moby ****. Great Black and White movie they way they used to be. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Think about it, it was Hunters fault that they ran over their on antenna wire. The last order the Alabama recieved was to take up positon for an attack. As crazy as it seems having served in the military for 24 years, the last order recieved was always to be carried out. Ramsey had his ECM!. Another OK movie was "On the Beach". US sub ends up in AUstriala after nuke war and is avoiding radioactive fallout encompassing the earth. Too much mushy stuff though but had a great potential story line

As far as WW II sub movies go, you just can't beat Run Silent Run Deep. The other mentioned such as Operation Pacific, Torpedo Run etc were great as well.Never sawe Hellcats of the Navy but will check it out, sounds good and Ronald Reagan was a decent actor and cerntainly looked the part, even though he described himself as "King of the B's"

Crimson Tide is my favorite non WW II sub movie.

As far as the comment that the Captain in Crimson Tide should have capped the XO , well that is not a great thing to say, actually it's wrong, think about it.I know it's just a movie but could happen in RL I suppose.Turns out the XO was correct and nuclear war was avoided because they confirmed before launch only after the XO took action.Possibly the most annoying one in that movie was a pre Tony Soprano James Gandolfini who played one of the Officers, really got under my skin for some reason.Hackman did a great job of portraying the arrogant SOB he was supposed to.

U-571 I found was very good but a bit on the fictional side but still a very good movie.

The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming.
Funny movie about a Russian sub that gets a little lost and off course. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Nothing like Victory at Sea , Episode 16: Killers and the Kill. No movie can challenge the real thing. And Victory at Sea is classic!

These are the ones that i have.

U571- great movie, but you need to take it with a grain of salt... im sure that the "nit pickers" could pull it apart, but its still enjoyable.

Below - Totally thought i was the only one who liked this sci-fi/horror movie set on a WWII sub... worth checking out.

Das Boot- seriously, if you havent seen it yet, you need to just buy it.

Victory at sea- Whole collection is worth watching because it puts the sub war in a context to the greater war at sea... a must own for any history buff.

K-19 is an interesting story, and good movie.

Crimson Tide and Hunt for the Red October - 2 more good, older movies.

The enemy below, run silent run deep are also 2 of my favorites

I'm still waiting and will keep waiting for a new WWII sub movie action ... either in Pacific or Atlantic or both. With the new cinematic technology and hopefully available in 3D version, any new WWII sub action will be so incredible.

Later, make it available in Blu Ray .. and that would be awesome!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Das Boot FTW. The long, five-hour version. In German, too, please. The English dub is awful...
