The insignia pic is interesting- click it for the larger image

It's the USAF insignia, but a little different

red bar on the USAF insignia per US practice... but red star in the middle...red circle around the red star...that means Korea to me

Is that a Mig-15 above the insignia?

It very much appears to be a MiG-15 to me as well

After years of lame, half hearted updates, I can no longer summon even a minimum of anticipation for an unanounced project of unnamed content, which is to be released at an unknown date.

Galba was a senile Roman general who was caesar for less than a year after Nero, and was soon assassinated. Not a very promising name for a 'secret' project.

BTW, where's the 'secret' here? I find it rather silly to name 'secret' a project which everybody knows by now, if not the details. It's just a Korea set, using the SOW engine. Stop the silly 'secret' jargon, please, and give real updates.

Soo.... we get an update/news that they can't give us any update/news?

Nice.

That set teh new bar in their relations with public http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif .

Soon they will announce their intention to try (unsuccessfully) to represent the entirety of the conflict in one installation. Then spend years attempting to plug the gaps.

I'm much more interested these days in the sudden blackout from Gennadich and the expectation of their next big push.

A weird aproach,kinda like explainin somethin to a 10 y/o kid.Knowing RRG IL2 projects it`s 2 years away.

Looking at RRG IL2 projects they better think about this one.Beatiful cockpits, nice graphics but hey the theater of operations should have all the mandatory planes and a good single player campaign.Overall quality should be enhanced.

Other than that it`ll be interesting to see which side will be biased in this "La9 won teh war vs P51 won teh war" .

I though somewhere, someone had said (1C? Oleg? or Mr. Shevchenko) that by july, they were gonna start making updates on SOW...

HOPEFULLY, this is the start, and many more, better ones will come out?

If i am being too optimistic, I have a jar here, full of barbed wire and salt, Ill plunge my hand in there

The quote was "wait until July" if I recall

Not "by July". "By July" means that on July 1st, info is forthcoming

The implication was that in July, there will be something to share. Of course, now I read that Oleg 'wasn't going' to E3...which means anything from "Oleg will not personally be there" to "Maddox Games isn't going" to "the vacuum cleaner bag sure is hot today" to "Cheese sandwhiches make mountain climbing fun". I dunno

But the quote was "wait until July" as I remember it

No doubt they would love to show us and tell us everything but if they have a publisher (and it says that Ubisoft is the publisher) then release of any official information is strictly controlled by the publisher's PR department. Its the same for Oleg's team...they can do some things and show off some stuff but pretty much all of it has to be cleared with the publisher first. Or they are found in breech of contract and funding is terminated...

Thats how it works.

That said...Ubisofts PR department needs to give the a-ok to releasing some serious information and screen shots and marketing materials soon. I'm not in favour of jumping the gun either and telling us too much too soon but they do need to do things like official announce the development of Battle of Britain, start up an official website, and get us a new forum soon.

Galba was Roman Emperor from the 8th of June 68 until his death on the 15th of January 69.

It so happens that the Tet offensive officially ended on the 8th of June 1968. If nothing else, that's an interesting coincidence.

Excellent synopsis and I fully agree here. My excitement does not actually jump up now. Making news of non news actually.

Showing screen shots years before publishing (SOW) and then showing nothing anymore for more than half a year is a bit ... strange ...

Come on man be a little more positive. And how many regulars here do you see saying P-51 won the war? Anyone that thinks a machine won any war is borderline pathetic anyway so how about we just drop this ridiculous phrase?

You know damn well as I do that for anyone who has been here for over 2 years nothing is surprising. For people alike the attitude is rather sceptical although not pesimistic.

But no chance for that happening. The phrase lies deep within the forum and I like it personally. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Wow a secret undisclosed project! Wonder if I'll be able to pay for it in my extra-secret invisible money once it gets secretly released. Stop treating people like kids and just tell us wtf you are up to already. July is half gone by now, E3 is happening. Let's hope we see something before this month otherwise I'd just as gladly devote my time to FSX and FS9. Atleast Microsoft and other third party dev's there tend to update their prospective customers from time to time about what's going on. The argument that Maddox games is afraid certain features will be copied is just lame, I'd like to see what feature is so innovative that no other flight simulation has it yet. I can't really think of one that noone else could think of.

Here is the bottom line. Almost always the people that complain about aircraft performance when its actually very close to RL are the ones that are not very good at the game. The ones that die, the ones that fail to understand how to maintain energy, the ones that cant figure out why x-plane can catch there y-plane in a dive when people like me can easily outrun it. When there is fact that something is wrong then sure fix it, but often the problem lies with the individual not the plane. I refuse anymore to even acknowledge such people, the ones that whine with no facts or conduct no real test. We have people in here that take the time to do the proper test so I leave the complaining to them. But this attitude will never die as long as sarcastic comments are used to insight some type of argument that leads nowhere.

Its secret because UBI the publisher wants it secret would be my guess. And its been pretty clear from comments made by individuals that work on the project that its the Korean War. And ya thats a Mig 15 in the pic would be my guess.

Let's look at the lack of updates from another perspective:

With Il-2 Oleg exposed himself to the masses with his Friday updates and his general participation in the boards. While that made most of us feel good and loved (and helped promoting Il-2) it also created something that Oleg couldn't like: extreme expectations. Let's be truthful - aren't there enough "Oleg I want" or "Oleg, why ... ?" threads buried here and in the ORR to prove the extremes this "expectation" went to over the course of the pase years? Oleg has been systematically mobbed, accused of bias and lying and a general hate for anything "Made in USA" to a point when no longer showing up here is just a form of self-defense. People are still posting threads demanding the addition of certain planes - even though the Il-2 engine lies in its "death throes". Why would Oleg (as representative of Maddox Games) or Ubisoft want to continue this practise? Why would he bother to put himself up as a target for the more vicious verbal snipers here? Again?

The second thing is Ubisoft's PR policy (what an euphemism). They virtually declare anything "TOP SECRET" and expect customers to buy the pig in a poke. They haven't managed to grasp the differences between shooter kiddies looking for Bang and Boom and flight simmers and I would not bet on these PR guys ever "getting it", either.

Ergo = don't expect anything. This way you won't be disappointed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

You know, I have issues with buying things sight unseeen. If they'd release a demo I would have peace with this but as I understand we won't be seeing one. So basically they are asking me to part with my money on no other basis then Oleg's blue eyes and the reputation of his current project. I am mainly an offline player so what are my current experiences?

1. AI Sucks especially when their on your side.
2. Single player campaigns leave lots to be desired.
3. Lots of content needed for certain theatres is missing and will never be added (planes and maps)
4. We are seeing a complete lack of communication which reminds me of the one before the pacific fighters release and we all know how smoothly that one did.

So basically would you call this good basis for buying an new product from maddox games?

No problem

I knew this would make some interesting reading http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Personally, I can't understand how anybody can read this type of news and not just say "great!".

I think it's pretty easy to sit at your desk and try too hard to put two and two together when you're online. For some reason, being online brings out the conspiracy theorist in some, and the pessismist in others.

The "your" I used was not you personally Ploughman. I mean the all-inclusive "you" in this case- I am talking about anyone who is online, not you. When anyone sits at his or her desk and goes online, it seems to bring out the pessimist in some people, not you

NAFP_supah, you devoting your time to FSX and FS9 seems to me to be your best bet, IL2 stuff seems to cause you stress, not good for the ol' ticker.

Could someone here please direct me to the page where they are asking NAFP_supah or anyone else to part with their money?

Please show me the announcement where Oleg says that SoW will be free? Unless you are in some kind of wierd commune then stuff like videogames will need to paid with MONEY. It's called CAPITALISM. Glad to see though you agree with my assesment of what's wrong with the IL-2FB/1946 single player experience, because if you didn't you would have countered me with your opinion instead of just telling me to go away and leave you to your fanboisme.
