Registered as Tully_78th in Feb 2002, re-registered to drop the squad tag when the squad disolved and never added a squad tag again due to moderating role.

Hunter started a business selling high end computers and got too busy to stay on the forums. I used to have the web address but a couple of new computers and house moves put paid to that...never mind, found it and it's a dead link now http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

WoW ! I remember all you guy's, especially VW-Ice Fire and Tully. You two gave me a lot of help as I was trying to get the Game to run properly on my old computer. - LoL . It's amazing how fast time has gone by, Ten years ago I didn't have a care in the world and now I have properties, houses, electrical career and a custom motorcycle shop...Needless to say I don't have the time to Fly and that's a bummer, But it's Great to see you guy's again! I have many fond memories of those care free days with you guy's... Thank You for the good times and maybe someday I will climb back into the cockpit... Take Care and Happy Holidays - Jim

I got the game for xmas 2001 when it first came out and it's been on my hard-drive ever since.

It might be starting to look its age a little now but it's still good and will not be going anywhere until a truly worthwhile successor appears.

Getting into the skinning side of the sim opened up a whole new aspect and made for some interesting and rewarding contacts.

Overall it's been a great ten years.

I was flying the original from 2001 but as others mentioned, I didn't register here until 2003....but I still have 1946 (five different installs of it) on my Hard Drive and use it for my movie-making still.

I love what they are doing with CloD but I find it too frustrating to learn at the moment and also the camera controls are a PITA compared to 1946 so I'm leaving it well alone until I get lots of time to start enjoying it.

It's like a School reunion here chaps! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Von_Ron is still here http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif,

I frequented the original 2 x UBI servers when the game first launched, and after many thousands of kills ... my heartbeat still pounds in my ears whenever I am in a dogfight.

I too remember the UBI forums being re-set/transferring to a new website and the loss of my account http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.

I have Cliffs of Dover but just want it to be more finalised before I commit to buying a new PC.

I don't think anyone really leaves this sim .. they just change names and re invent themselfs, go off and play another game for a limited time until they end up back here.

I was a nubie when the first IL2 came out. Remember all the discussions on how to get out (or not) of a spin in a P39? Cheats like trim on a slider (that Uni-Brow Character). What a gang! Still here. Lost most of an admittedly low post count when the site re-set/moved, but my join date seems to have remained the same. Was playing Il2 beta together with Jen, Rjel, et al. from the old E54 squad back in September or October 2001. Strictly G2s vs P39s in those days. You'll still catch me online from time to time, flying under the same name that I've always used: BubbFactor.

Hey, does anyone remember when this pic was posted here? I just found it on my HDD...
Looking over the options in the mocked up menu, not a lot has changed in 10 years... ;)

I woud credit the original artist but don't recall who it was, though the image itself suggests Earwicker had something to do with it.

There are still quite a few familiar faces but there are also many that I haven't seen around in a while. I have to say that this "place" was so much more fun back in the day and really wish we could get it back to the way it was. Some things will just never be the same again. I was originally registered as infantry111 in '01 but lost and forgot my password during my year long deployement in 2003.

Hey Choctaw! How have you been bud? Talk about things being different. Pappy logged onto Hyperlobby from Afghanistan during some down time and was banned for impersonating a Squad/Member. He eventually went over to the HL forums and got it straightened out. Mainly because of his join date.

I would love to get back into it. I just built this new PC as I been doing a lot of gaming on the PS3 and 360 the past few years. But its good to be back on the PC. I gotta dig out my CH Products, TIR, and whatnot. Then I will have to go through the task of patching/modding. Hopefully someone can assist me with that. Anyone?

Anyway it is really good to see a lot of you guys alive and well!!! I hope all of your lives are going very well!

I lived about 20 miles from the Reading Airport but now maintain an apartment about 10 miles from the airport in addition to my Northern Maine estate.
Northern Maine is great and since the climate is much more dry up there, the cold doesn't get to me like in Pennsylvania. The mild summers were a huge selling point for me not to mention the property values are much less than they are anywhere near Philadelphia.

Yes, I remember now. We used to discuss WW2 Weekend in Reading. I actually went back down there two Summers ago. We took my youngest Son down for his birthday. They had a limited amount of planes there at that time. I definitely want to get a ride in a Mustang one of these years.

ROFL!

A noob compared to this lot, but been around long enough to recognise some of the names, if only by reputation. Sadly, the forum seems to be on its last legs, but the game lives on - and is better now than it has ever been, especially since TD got their hands on the AI, and turned the robo-fools into the evil geniuses they are now. I've just downloaded the new 4.11.1 patch, and they have added one more cunning plan, to counter the effects of the 'AI not seeing you sneaking up from behind' code they added earlier: "Changed AI so that last plane in formation performs maneuvers for checking blind spots". Maybe I should drop Rise of Flight (which in my case, would probably be more accurately named Falling in Flames) for a bit, along with Waiting for CloDpatch, and go back to my old love. A new dynamic campaign maybe? Why not? Start with an easy one, flying Bf 109s in the siege of Leningrad. Easy? Who am I kidding, I expect the AI will eat me for breakfast...

Still kicking. Check out the old forum every so often, good memories of spiritied debates on lots of topics. Spitfires and 190s mostly, over at ROF forums they are rediscovering all the old arguments ie "with 1000000 hours of practise, and knowledge of modern BFM, and with no fear of death, guess what? miinor differences in plane performance dominate". And suchlike and so forth. The great circle of life, little cub, and then new simmers are born....

Hey Veterans!

I started my ERA in 2001 flying in private. After going online I joined Dead Eyes Squadron alrady in my first week in action. Have had alot of great times and flights, with many good team memories!
We won the Ghost Skies Cycle one year with full real settings which must be the highest ranked victory that counts... ;)

After using my computer for around 10 years now I today ordered a new. Have already invested in COD, and will get airborne soon for testing some new graphics.. Should shock me, and cannot wait to get some of the adrenaline back!

Hope to see some of you in the air, and happy to wing anyone!

Haven't flown in a loooong time... Just lurk from time to time and happened to click the bookmark to check up on the forums and I found this here thread. Brings back memories.

Miss all you cats and the laughs in TS. Not sure when this account was up but yea, had a stint with Kajr and Earnhardt with the Air races.

Cowabunga checking in. NFI when I joined, but it goes back to Red Storm's Rainbow Six. Well met all!

Just refurbed a Win 7 pos into a little hot rod and am having issues loading the AEP. I get an installation error saying "IL2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles not found." I load games onto their own separate drive and I'm guessing the game is so old that it doesn't search for an install directory other than the default one.

Tried logging into the game's UBI.com for possible updates to FB but get an error that the client is incompatible with the server. Unless someone has a recommendation, guess I'll uninstall and reinstall to the default directory.

Cheers!

EDIT: found my old patch library ... will try those.

...and am having issues loading the AEP. I get an installation error saying "IL2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles not found." I load games onto their own separate drive and I'm guessing the game is so old that it doesn't search for an install directory other than the default one...
AEP installer used the registry entry for language on the original FB install to find the installation directory. If you bypass the autorun dialog and run setup.exe from the disk, the registry entry never gets created.

Unfortunately the forum search doesn't seem to search old threads prior to the last forum software update or I'd find one of the old ones that has instructions on how to create the registry entry manually. Without that, there are two options that I can suggest:

If it will work on Win7, re-install FB from the autorun dialog instead of browsing the disk and running setup.exe. You can then run AEP install and it will find the FB folder.... OR
Buy the IL2 1946 DVD (http://www.amazon.com/IL-2-Sturmovik-1946-Pc/dp/B000N4JENW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361680304&sr=8-1&keywords=il2+1946) from Amazon, it includes FB, AEP, PF and patches/expansion packs up to 4.07 as a single merged install for less than US$10

Edit: Just thought of a 3rd option if you have an old WinXP or Win98 computer sitting around and the first option above fails in the Win7 machine. Install FB and AEP on the old machine using the first option above then copy the install folder over to the new machine. AEP is the last patch that uses the registry entry to find the install, all later patches and add-ons allow you to manually navigate to the folder during the installation process making the game completely independent of any registry entries. Just be sure to run the IL2Setup.exe utility in the game folder to choose graphics/audio etc settings before running the installation on the new machine for the first time.

Started playing on Christmas 2002 :D Stopped flying in 2006 when I got addicted to MMO. I just came back to tell you what great memories I have from this forum. This thread is bringing so many memories, I almost cannot believe it's been ten years. I still remember RBJ and the BROW. I still have my AEP and FB, though I never tried Pacific fighters and 1946.

P.S. I'm still a Wurgerwhiner! :D

Remember some great characters from the old Pilots Lounge, Heavy Delta, Badmouse, Angel of Mons, Ray Ban Jockey, Veverka, Gunner, Gunners Girl, Skychimp, CrazyIvan, Major Blood, SmokeJag etc, to name but a few. Some of the heated discussions would go on for days, great fun ;).

Hope the years have been kind to all

Yeah still here too after joining in 2001 when I was under the moniker of MadBadVlad or later just mbv. Great to see so many familiar names in here and amazed to see CrazyIvan & Raybanjockey show up :) Still flying IL-2's and I-16's mostly. Still fascinated by the Soviet airwomen in WWII too - there's been a couple of good books on them out lately if anyone is interested (FeatheredIV ?) eg. Soviet Airwomen of the Great Patriotic War http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/8875651469/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and a rare female Sturmovik pilot memoir Red Sky, Black Death: A Soviet Woman Pilot's Memoir of the Eastern Front http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0893573558/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I did lapse for about 5 years then got back into it around the time of the 4.10 patch. I'm over on the 1C forums as mbv

I accidentially stumbled back into this place, to find this thread... even my account still works after not having used it in many, many years! Last year I did some reading to get back into IL-2, but a broken MS Sidewinder and a now 10 month old little boy kept me out of sims (and gaming in general)!

I do occasionally build a scale model... nice to have a little look back!

[edit] Even my old sig still works! lol!

Yeah that's about right Tully ... Every now and then just for nostalgia's sake I hit this link.. (http://il2-sturmovik.de.ubi.com/en/home.php?skin=S2) .. It leads back here ... but it is nice to see .. and remember.. I have had some very fond memories here and I met a lot of folks that I am still in touch with... Over the past 11 years I have built @ 6 PCs.. learned more about WWII aircraft than I could have imagined.. learned some new skills from making web pages to using Photoshop ... and it just blows me away that I can STILL after ll these years come home and fire up IL2 and still have big fun... online or off.. I still have some QMs that I originally set up in FB 1.0 ... I transferred them over to each new install down through the years...

10 yr's ago, was a very different time and memory. Woofie was about 8 months old and full of piss & vinegar ready to take on the world and all comers. Now she spends most of the day under the covers, dreaming away with her paws moving along and letting out small barks every once and a while, I guess chasing the squirrels or rabbits through the landscape of her dreams.

As for myself, I retired a few years back and find that time go's by at a quicker rate and there seems less of it now as there is always some project or item to tackle or the never ending errands to run. Don't think your really retiring when you finally reach that point of your life! LoL

But I still enjoy flying the skies of IL-2 and most importantly the community here of the IL-2 forum, although the forum here has lost some of it's spark and vitality of years past. It was here that a person from any where from around the globe could take to the skies and leave the world behind for a while and have some fun and also find a little help with the problems they encountered with the game or with their computer or sometimes just with the daily grind of life.

Yes, IL-2 turned out to be more than just a simple PC game played out on a computer screen, that someone picked up to take break from the never changing daily grind of life that surrounds us all.

Maybe you remember my war stories under fake name, when I was testing some new patch - Jamamoto kill, Me-110 in far North.. and then Slovak dynamic campaign in 2004 and Slovak map development in 2005-2009, evenings until early mornings on Hyperlobby with our Letka 13 squadron bunch, looks surreal. I still fly a bit, but mostly sightseeing around Slovakia. Greetings to all!

Hey folks, I haven't been here in a while, though it's not like much has been going on here! I guess everyone was really expectant about CLOD coming out, then it turned out to be a mess and everyone kind of gave up on this place. I got Far Cry 4 recently and logged back into Ubi-Land to discuss its lack of optimization and got curious and dropped in here.

What the heck happened with CLOD and Battle of Stalingrad anyway? I haven't kept up with that stuff at all. Is BOS anywhere as good as IL-2 ever was? Just curious, I don't have a stick or pedals anymore, just a gaming laptop, so no flight sims for me anymore.

As for myself, I gave up on living in San Francisco a few years ago, moved to Oakland, gave up on the Bay Area, moved to Long Beach, gave up on California, and moved to South Korea to teach English. Wild and crazy place if you like crowds, smog, and karaoke (or "noraebang" as we say in the Land of Morning Calm)...also I got married last January to a lovely lass from New Zealand. Hope you guys are all happy and still sane and so on. :)
