Brain32,

That is my personal skin, it's modification of one I found in my cache one time. Someone more learned about USAAF units can no doubt point you to the Squadron that used that scheme. I know I have seen it at the usual skin sites before.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Cool, that same skin appears on a P51 that I have on a WWII warbirds calendar. In the picture on my calendar, it's called "GUNFIGHTER" and flown by Brig. Gen. Regis Urschler (USAF Ret.).

Nice skin, but I'm assuming that you mean the P-51's performance is back in V4.07. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

It is much improved yes. Not the supposed UFO from 3.whatever, but the wings stay glued on, she is very smooth to fly and I never have that feeling like I'm balancing on the head of a pin, like the 4.04 and 5 versions felt like.

I flew her on UK Ded 2 this morning, and using strict BnZ no one could lay a glove on me. Most gratifying.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yes.

4.07m might as well be named B'n'Z 46.

Tempest, Corsair, Jug, Mustang and FW all seem much better in their energy fighting roles.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Now I'm a ground-pounder myself so whenever I want to fly jabo w/ American iron I take the Jug - or, talking about proper bombers, the B-25 or the SBD which I think are both excellent crates all around. I like it too.. it certainly iosnt the P-51 from 2.01.. which was just too hot.. but it is much more inline with historical performance. Still has the glass jaw... still is twitchy if loaded above 50%... but it does perform better.. and it is more stable.... whic makes the 50s more stable.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Don't celebrate too loud, guys! A lot of planes in 4.07 feel more stable now due to the new joystick input feature. I think, extremly sudden movements are restricted in genereal by this. This means, less whobble, less stall, less braking wings and more stable flight. Even landings are more easy now.

Exactly, which is WHY we are celebrating too loud. Pre 4.07 the 109/190 gunnery was child's play, while consistant gunnery in the Mustang, Spit, Tempest and to a lesser degree the P47 and P38.....was impossible ON MY SYSTEM. So, if this news is accurate, the P51 will now be on a even playing field.

Lastly, Whine32 is officially set to ignore. You add absolutely NOTHING to any thread you are involved in, unless Crying about the Spitfire counts as something positive. Tvrd flushed, mission accomplished.

Allllllllrighty then!!!

Finally got a chance to fly the P51D after getting BillyTheKid's '46 se tup, and wow. Much better handling aircraft than in 4.05. More predictable flight parameters and you can actually pull off a wicked scissors. Nose is quite a bit more stable, so you can get more .50s on target, and aiming with the rudder now means something.

TO ME, this version falls much more in line with the accounts I've read about it. You still cannot get slow with 109s/190s/A6Ms/etc, and that seems right TO ME.

PS: The Lurch is hilarious fun.

I'm assuming that you mean the P-51's performance is back in V4.07. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

It is much improved yes. Not the supposed UFO from 3.whatever, but the wings stay glued on, she is very smooth to fly and I never have that feeling like I'm balancing on the head of a pin, like the 4.04 and 5 versions felt like.
</div></BLOCKQUOTE>Agreed. Much improved and it only took 6 revisions to arrive at this point. Better late than never.

I had a few sorties in her last night and got myself 4 kills with the 50's. I didnt actually notice that much difference but hte wings stayed on and thats the most important thing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

At one point I attempted scissors - bad move - shes still not stable enough and I spun out into the ground.

Fast enough to keep up with FW190D9 and the 50's seemed to really punch. Twice after I thought I only scored a few hits with a very quick burst, the enemy plane crashed seemingly with no damage - but I got the kill. I mantain that 50's hurt a lot more than they seem to when you are on th recieving end.

I have been flying against the AI the past few days and have got into bad habits of flying into furballs. I apologise to my teamates as I was totally useless for them last night. Flying with wild abandon purely to test things out.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The eye opener for me is the P-51B. It now kicks ar$e above 20,000 feet. It's faster than the P-47D_late at most altitudes, including above 23-24,000 ft.

It's not quite as smooth as the D series Mustangs, but it's certainly not a handful. The Ds are quicker down low, and are probably the better all rounders, but the B is definitely better at altitude. To me, it also feels more agile, although that could be a function of it being less stable than the D.

There is a new high alt fighter.

cheers,
Ratsack
