interesting post but i wouldn't read too much into it. amazon makes up release dates all the time but as far as i can tell they are just that - made up. if cyan/ubisoft haven't given a date how are amazon supposed to have any better idea than us?

There is a very short video on the UBI site MystWorlds (http://www.mystworlds.com/us/) This was posted June 10th and only states they are shooting for a fall release.

Yeah that€s what I heard too. The reason its simply put as "Fall 2005" may be that Cyan/Ubi don€t want to upset Fans if the release date is pushed or even released earlier. Amazon might have some more detail since they offer the game, and thus have insider contacts at the publishers. However a September/ October release might not be unrealistic, and early October would actually fit in quite well with other Ubi releases.
At any rate it narrows the target date down a bit. From simply €œFall€ or €Third quarter€.

i never said the game would not be released in october or even september, i just said the date quoted by amazon it meaningless. you say amazon might have inside contacts from the publisher, but why would ubi give amazon information but not tell the public themselves? and more to the point, ubi aren't making the game, cyan are.

It's amazing how we go through this every time a new Myst game is released. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Since the game is still in development, about all the publisher can do is announce a vague target, such as "fall" or "third quarter". Games often slip such targets, so there isn't much point in announcing a specific date several months before the game is done. We won't have a confirmed release date until EoA actually "goes gold" (is released to manufacturing), at which point we can expect the game to be released about 2-4 weeks later. Until then the various vendors just pull dates out of thin air, so there's not much point in comparing or debating Amazon dates vs. Amazon UK vs. Gamestop, etc.

Heh... it could actually be argued that there really isn't any insider information being given to the stores given how widely their release dates vary... even within branches of the same company (AMazon and Amazon UK).

Assuming the game goes golden master in mid to late July (which, based on a response to an unrelated query I sent to Cyan, seems possible) or even early August, the game will probably hit stores some time in September, because printing the game in sufficient quantities usually takes about a month to a month and a half. The printing process might take a little longer because they seem to be releasing the game on CD and DVD (which implies that unlike Uru, it's a multi-disc release... in which case I wonder just how big this game is going to be... O.o), so both need to be printed in sufficient quantities for sales internationally.

I found it kind of funny that amazon.ca has the Myst V Prima Game Guide (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/0761551379/qid=1118978007/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/702-4713879-0994409) available for pre-order (Sept. 20th release) but does not seem to have the actual game available for pre-order yet.
