Ok, Hollywood can realy make bad remakes, and many great classicks should never be remaded, because the orginal is so great. But Dark Blue world got me thinking, there is a third alternativ, like they did whit the old star wars movies. Dark blue world is not a remake of Battle of Brittan, but uses many seens and clips from BOB. DBW adds lot of effects, like bullet traisers and makes the old fotage from BOB so much better.
So what if they tok Blue max (the best ww1 movie of all time) and added some cgi effects, whould that be better then a remake? I dont wont a remake of blue max, because I think the movie is great as it is, but it always irritaits me how you only hear the guns firering, and then a bit of smoke came out of a box under the plane. A bitt of cgi here and there could do wonders... mabe..

I love the Blue Max, that along side 'All Quite on the Western Front' is Hollywood at it's best. Personally I think they should stay away from the original. You mention Star Wars and how they added the extra scenes.... like most Star Wars fans the whole 'Gweedo shoots first' was some of the worst addition to not only star wars but any film for that matter.

Star Wars looked great without all those added CGI affects and I believe that Blue Max is in the same boat. I love that movie for what it is and would hate to see a classic like that to look 'cool' with CGI affects.

While visiting a new restaurant on the site of a small local civil aerodrome I noticed the walls were decorated with "Blue Max" prints/posters.It turns out that the flying for the movie was done out of that tiny airstrip -Weston Aerodrome-about 10 miles/16km west of Dublin,Ireland. In fact I think the film was shot (almost)entirely on location here.

Messing with The Blue Max would be a great loss IMHO - I too feel that it is the best WW1 movie as far as aerial combat is concerned...and Ursula proves hands down that you do not need to be a size 1 to be sexy as ***** http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif There are several WW1 movies in production now - Aerodrome airplanes in Missouri just built 4 Se5 full scale replicas for one of them. Leave the old movies as is - save the wonder cgi for movies that need it to cover up **** acting/scripts - i.e Pearl Har-bore http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

WW1 air guns didn't use tracers. You just saw smoke or flares.

Tracers were introduced in late twenties/early thirties. In the first stages of Spanish Civil War, only intervention forces used them -being more common as the war advanced.

I haven't seen dark blue world yet, never even heard of it to be honest http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

There are WW1 in production right now? The only movie that I know about that is comming out is that Tom Cruise movie 'The Few' or whatever. I would love for a new movie to come out based on the aerial combat of WW1. CGI is alright, I guess if it's done right. Lord of the Rings had pretty good CGI, that didn't look cheesy like that of Star Wars.

I caught the "Blue Max" on UK tv (BBC2 I think) a couple of days ago.I hadn't seen it since I was in my teens and my most vivid memory of it was Ursula Andress with that towel draped around her!

I was surprised at how good the film is. I enjoyed it so much I could even overlook the Tiger Moths as WW1 RFC fighters, the incredibly fake looking blood on Peppards arm and the German soldiers using Enfield No4 rifles at the funeral of Jeremy kemps character!

Some things never change though, Ursula Andress in that towel still made certain parts revolve! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

The movie is called "Flyboys" - apparently it is going straight to DVD (never a good sign). imdb has it listed as "in production" - who knows? I did not know that the couch jumper was involved in a WW1 project - such a shame he is losing his mind after the good performance in The Last Samurai

Sorry, I should have clarified that 'The Few' is actually a WW2 film based on the Battle of Britian.

Cruise plays an American, Billy Fiske.

Edit: Here's the IMDB link http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0388940/

The best part of the Blue Max is that it didn€t use special effects. They shot aerial footage of real airplanes. The best WW I movies are the ones made in the 20€s using war surplus airplanes. You know, World War I surplus. I buy those movies just for the snippets of the genuine birds in flight.

My bad - you are right...imdb says MGM release date October 2006. click here (http://www.ultralightflyer.com/airshow-snf05/7.html)for pics of the full scale aircraft built by Aerodrome (Nieuport 17's not Se5 - can't get anything right today!!!) and some discussion of the movie.

just to clarify .. Dark blue World doesnt use shots used in the actual movie Battle of Britain.

It does however make use of some of the good stuff from the 100's of hours of footage shot by the Battle of Britain team that didnt make the movie.
