Myst Obsession just broke the news.
Yay! Downloading now...

Now what's this about GameShadow though??

Due to the tremendous loyalty and spirit of the Myst community, and our appreciation for your involvement through the years of development of the Myst series, we are making this announcement to you first, before the official Press Release. Myst V: End of Ages will be a new pinnacle, continuing the beauty, drama, creativity and challenge which have been the hallmarks of all Myst titles. We look forward to sharing this new journey with you in Fall of 2005.

A copy of GameShadow will be on the CD so that players can get the latest files for the game as soon as they are released. More so, GameShadow will be able to provide the most suitable drivers for this revolutionary adventure game.

Umm OK.. I'm not exactly sure what the "huge announcement" is there which couldn't wait for a press release...

I really hope this doesn't mean we'll need to register with GameShadow to play it or anything. It seems like one of those Steam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam)-type things, which would be totally dominating to your gameplay experience. (???)

Hi. No, it's free, it isn't required for play and it's totally optional. It is a way to get content and patches and other stuff for a number of games for free.

Try it, or don't, simple. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Huh? Can someone please explain? Downloading demo by the way http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yes, I can explain.

GameShadow is a utility that allows you to get content for your games. It does not replace anyone going to other sites and trying to find the content...but it does stop you having to search and queue. There is a free version and a sub version, to cover bandwidth costs. Thats it. Its optional, lots of people use it (approaching 200K users) and it takes the pain out of finding content.

Hope that helps.

OK thanks Ballistix for pointing that out, and also for pointing out this demo to the community.

It doesnt seem too bad then (GS), I may even use it. But what I do know is that my computer chugged down to snails pace just by having the GS window open in a different browser window. I was compiling a 10-line Java program and it took 2 minutes and then I closed the GS window and it solved it... :/

Hi Eat_My_Shortz, do people call you "Eat" for short? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Were you on the website or in the actual client when this happened? Was GameShadow searching your hard disk, if so thats the most intensive piece. Otherwise it takes no resources. Let me know what was happening at the time.

When people try GS they get over the fears, because actually it was developed by gamers that wanted to take the pain out of getting files and content without ads and **** being thrown at them every time. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Regards,

TT

Heh... well actually everyone calls me EMS. But I've been called "Mr. Shortz" too which was kinda funny http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Actually I was just sitting on the myst 5 page of the website, in Firefox, running Linux. (So I doubt it's searching my hard drive http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) There must have been a lot of animations going on (which I think there were).

That's good, at least it has your vote. It's probably not a bad thing at all, I was just remarking at the fact the site slowed my comp down.

The PC demo isn't even mentioned at Myst Worlds yet. Shows you how on top of things they are. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

EMS --

Thanks for the news! Naturally I'm at work right now, and won't be able to download the demo until this evening, but it looks like a late bedtime tonight!

Cheers,

OK I played it. Its great, but terribly slow for me. Had a few problems which I whined about here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2441041362/m/7801041943) (that's on the spoiler forum cuz its a bit spoily!)

But on the whole, i like it. The full should be a lot better too!

I just downloaded the demo. Boy, am I glad I've updated my graphics card. This is truly a beautiful game.

I'm working on the first puzzle (well, it actually may not be the first puzzle, but the first one I've found so far) and think I've got a clue about solving it.

I've also learned out to write and erase on the slate, but still don't know what those other "boxes" on the lower right and left-hand side are for.

Hi everyone! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

When you get a symbol right, it will be saved in one of those boxes, so you can repeat it later without re-drawing it yourself.

I encountered some sort of error with that. I got the symbol right and the 3 drops went in that little box, but when I clicked on it, it drew one of the random meaningless drawings that I had drawn as a joke before.

I thought that the demo was sortof short. I finished with the whole thing in an hour. I hope that the full game is longer than Uru. (I fear it won't be.)

Lol, at that bug.

Yes the demo was short. Did you play the Myst IV demo? They don't want to give too much away.

Considering that the game has, we know, Direbo hub, four "sub" ages (Nol, Tod, Laki and Taghira), plus a heck of a lot of D'ni, plus bonus ages http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif - and we've seen a bit of Direbo and a bit of Noloben, I think it will be quite huge... probably bigger than Uru but at least the same.
