I was flying a 109 today and opened up the throttle and soon got an overheat warning. Before having time to open the radiator and only just reduced power the engine seized.

Now I know overheating will lead to in reality piston seizing but why is the E4/7 so prone to rapid overheat and engine failure

I haven't got the patch yet but is this a bug or is it authentic?

what version of FB are you playing?

before the patch(es) the bf109es had no auto pitch. starting in the air at about 300kph (like in QMB) will cause the engine to overrev quickly at 100% pitch and trottle. So you need to manually reduce pitch in order to keep correct rpm (3500 rpm ain't correct for the BD601A)

if you have patch installed you probaby disabled the auto pitch (look for corresponding key setting)

Instead of "over-rev," you get get "overheat" warning. What I am saying is that when the game says "overheat," it really means "over-rev," and the consequences are almost instantaneous, with a blown engine as your reward.

And from other's posts, now the Emil engine over-rev's at lower rpm's, like 2300 instead of 2700.

I wish they'd give us automatic pitch control that would keep the engines in their sweet spots (max power) and be done with it. I'm getting a bit tired of re-learning the game with every patch that comes along.

yeap, go over 2500rpm in an E and you've just busted your engine! The sand grinding noise will instantly be heard...

Now the E's have the autopitch, but they are no more the planes they were before...
