Finally managed to stumble across a ship in the vast emptiness of the Atlantic. In my enthusiasm and excitement at finding a target after days of monotonous travel, I fired my torpedoes. All 5 of them. They all missed. Disciplinary action will be taken upon arrival at port, I can assure you.

Here's a screenshot of my watch verbally assaulting the merchant ship after we emptied our ordinance in vain. We sailed alongside raining invectives upon them for hours, but all we did was bruise some egos. Still awaiting my first kill... http://img272.imageshack.us/img272/7395/closeup7oe.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif thats funny and mighty unlucky

There's a fine line between clever and stupid...

where did you lauch these 5 topedoes from? (in relation to the vessel)
what settings did you have these torpedoes on?

EDIT: and had you been spotted before launching torpedoes?

Settings? See, this is why I'm totally unqualified to Captain a U-Boat. We definitely were spotted, as I banged into the side of the ship upon surfacing. I had forgotten I was on compressed time, and we surfaced and then *WHANGG*, we sideswiped the merchant ship. Curling around to get a shot at her, I fired off shots from the UZO gizmo. Some came close, others wandered off like drunks at a wedding looking for the bar.

After the court martials come down, the new crew and I will be back out there terrorizing the seas. Or at least making funny noises when we crash into things.

Hehe,
Do you have the settings on 100% realism? Or does the computer set the solution for the torpedoes for you?

My gonkulator is on the fritz. It needs a new framminator. We tried using a hoozeywhatzit, but someone grapped a wachamacallit instead and now alles kaput. But thanks for the advice - it's very helpful.

Don't feel too bad. One time during a storm I wasted 8, yes 8 torpedoes on a **** stinkin' C2 cargo. I think 3 missed, one hit (but didn't cause signifigant damage) the others blew up prematurely or were duds, and finally the 8th delivered the killing blow. Mind you I only really started running "impact" mode fairly recently. I am not a Noob, I have around 25 patrols under my belt. Some days we just have terrible luck.

You've never heard of a gonkulator?!
Man oh man. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
Its the next best thing to a transmorgrifier!

That reminds me...has anyone seen my lightbulb repair kit?
And where did I put that bucket of steam? Hmmm...

I have actually replaced an officer for missing the target. Simple shots too, I could have hit them myself without much use of the TDC..

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif These guys are just teasing you with fictitious names for equipment Wilhelm, you'll know the real equipment as the Anthrometrical Symtograph, Heliosophagousynchroniser, Transembrysonic Fractalgram, Cryptofloranopack and Quasimemorandalog. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

ROFL @ Daloten. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Very funny experience, but you're in the best i.e. the early exploration phase of SH3, when you will experience many such things which will make you laugh, cry, laugh until you cry, jump out of your seat or just stare in wide-eyed awe and wonder. Savour the moments. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

Looks like a C2 Cargo that you engaged a little too closely. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I doubt there's a Kaleun afloat that doesn't chase down a contact and when he sees it's a C2 goes: "Oh nooo, not another C2!" whilst eyeing his precious torpedoes and wondering how many he's going to waste attacking it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Checked to see whether right angle for tubeselection was up (red, orange or green triangle at center locked ship in periscope sight? Also was the TDC on manual accidentally. Those things happened to me in the beginning. Try to take a longer time for marking the target....

make sure to buy the upgrade to the gonkulator next time in port...it's call the honkulator...

...and my experience with the framminator is that at flow velocities below 0.0005 hectre-foot per eon, they just ain't worth a D A M N!

...And make sure the bargeman plug is hooked up to the hoozeywhatzit next time, your 1WO should fired for forgetting that!

when I was a teenager I came up with the ultimate tool: the dual, all-purpose, variable right- and left-hand ratchet geschtonkus. As usual, I was ahead of my time. These days the "ratchet geschtonkus" would sell for $59.95 through Sharper Image - and it would be a great bargain! Clearly the ultimate geschtonkus...
