Ok, for some reason it seems like my joystick is wwwwway too sensitive... basically, I CAN'T PLAY AT ALL because if I try flying, any slight movement will make the plane start spinning out like crazy... help!! I can't play like this, period!!

-Edit: It was completely normal when I started the game for the first time, but I saw that for some reason it is VERY hard to make the plane turn right (i.e. a left tilt on the stick makes the plane do a smooth barrel to the left, but a right makes the plane do a very very slooow roll right) so I went and calibrated the stick thru the control panel... next thing you know, the stick is sensitive as hell..

any tips GREATLY appreciated

i could be wrong, but.....maybe try upping the dead band filter...this should make the joystick less sensitive...if i'm wrong, i'm sure someone will let us know... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Stick pots might be going south.
Check the calibration again.
Go into the setup for IL2-Pacific Fighters and adjust the sensitivity settings in the game.

Go to Hardware Controls and try the filtering options in the IL2 main menu (after you reinstall the drivers for your stick and recalibrate)

Rule Number One - Check Calibration daily.
Rule Number Two - Listen to nothing else I post!

Seriously try this;

Just to check... you're not using a logitech by any chance? These joysticks have very little stick movement and make the game much harder than it should be. Hats off to anyone who can fly using logitech. I struggled for a few months, finally bought another stick, and became 400% better overnight.

Other than that, learn how to use the sliders in the control input screen as already suggested. You can dampen any joystick sensitivity.

Ooo I fly with a Logitech! <raises hand>

It sucks. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Sounds like you've got a Logitech problem, the way I fix it (temporarily) is going complete apesh!t with it, i.e. flinging the stick around in all directions crazily for a couple of seconds. Can't be good for the joystick, but what the hey its Logitech.

Click the "Joysticks..." link under my signature picture and read the section on "Setting up sensitivity".

Do these joystick settings still apply for the new FM in 4.01?

Yes they do.
And, no they don't... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

It's a personal thing.
It's related to the stick yer using.
It's related to the plane yer flying.
It's related to the tactics yer using (Turn and Burn, vs. Boom and Zoom)

Main thing is that the FM changed alot since 4.01, which made start programming IL2-Sticks (http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/FB/fb_essential_files.htm#087). It can help you figure out what your best settings are, as you can easily save sensitivity settings to profiles, for either planes, or tactics ... (which the game cannot)

Have Fun!
