I like the style of Luftwaffe fighters, i can't say that they are as beautiful as spit or mustang, but they are small sized and look pretty LETHAL, that's the way i like it, and that cool black cross attracts me pretty much. I vote Bf-109 as the best looking fighter. what do you people think? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I dont think there would be anything scarier than looking out your rear turrett and seeing this:

http://www.aeronautics.ru/archive/wwii/periodicals/int_air_power_review/winter_2001_2002/web_gallery/pages/fw-190_0014.htm

I think the 190 is most lethal looking aircraft.

Best looking IMHO: P-51

Best-looking? What an easy question. Only one possible answer, the Supermarine Spitfire.

Now, to chose which Mark of Spit looks best is a really tough question. Mk1 for grace of line and design purity, mkV for those nice cannon and rounded tail, or mkIX for the big snout, six ejector exhausts and four bladed prop. Then again, some of those Griffon spits look pretty spectacular...

Yep i'm afraid i agree most heartily

with the only possible thing to add to this statement being the mark as flamin says.......

.....which would have to be the Mk1 Design, other marks have their own merits, but the original design is simply classic.
And although the spit would win on looks alone, the sense of history and pride( OK probably mainly to us brits) that it embodies, enhances its beauty threefold.

Spit wasn't bad. The only pretty plane the Brits had.

U guys are right on about the German stuff. Pretty in a scarry evil way.

But altogether, the US had the prettiest fighters --- bombers, too.

To be completely honest. I love the rugged look of the Fw190 A-series. Not that fond of the stretched look of the Dora though.

Then again, I drive a Jeep, and own a Pit Bull. So, you can see where my taste is. Pretty cutesy stuff,is not my style. (except for women)

Brit? Spit1

German? 09s. Im a bit partial to the emil.

Russian? Laggs. They sort of looks like the *cough* p-40. Which is a good thing imo. Or the migs. They're a damn fine looking bunch of planes.

Best over all? P-40 bebbe.

hrmm I seem to have forgotten the Japanese- as well as some others, So japanese? Zero I guess. Or the Oscar. Dunno really.

well in my opinion its got to be the 262, yeah i love the beatiful lines of a MK I Spitfire, the early 109 Es looked really mean with that staggered nose thing going on, but the ME 262 just looked so sleek and graceful, it completely changed the thinking for the very shape of fighters, look at that fue****e its almost a triangle and the swept wings, it was the Tiger shark of the sky IMHO

Bf109G in second, i just love the udlined nose, make the plane more "gallant"

Best looking is a tie between Mig3, Ki-84, P-47 Razorback, FW190 A4, TA 152, Spitfire, Corsair, HE-219 UHU, and P-40.

The worst looking is the BF109 series in my opinion. Pure utilitartian, and not a graceful line on the plane. All the sex appeal of a shovel. But man do I love that plane.

its so much the question of which fighter but more the question of which spitfire mark, im going with the VIII it is a great looking beast it has retractable tail weel and all the aerodynamic refinements of the VII the mk IX was supposed to be the interm for the VIII.

Definately the Spitfire (any mark), P-51's are nice, German planes are too 'cold' for me - the Spitfire is truly a thing of beauty and, for me at least, epitomises aerial combat in World War II.

_If_ I had to choose a specific mark, it would be the Mk 24 - 2340 HP of Griffon 64 anyone? This mark, whilst not as instantly recognizable as the classic spitfire, is evolution captured in a very beautiful and powerful aeroplane. Of course, there is also the sound of the mighty Merlin & Griffon too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm just kidding, of course.

Oh! And you're kidding too! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Must be: It looks like two halves of planes slapped together and accidently placed the wrong way. So to find a quick way out of the mess, the designer made a crude sketch of the P-38's twin tail. Voila: The SAD J-21. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

1.) P-51 D
2.) FW-190 D9
3.) ME-109 K4

============================
When it comes to testing new aircraft or determining maximum performance, pilots like to talk about "pushing the envelope." They're talking about a two dimensional model: the bottom is zero altitude, the ground; the left is zero speed; the top is max altitude; and the right, maximum velocity, of course. So, the pilots are pushing that upper-right-hand corner of the envelope. What everybody tries not to dwell on is that that's where the postage gets canceled, too.

Hey, that's a very nice thing to say.

Besides, I can't think of an uglier plane than the spit, I mean, just look at those eliptical wings, what were they thinking?
And it doesn't perform well either, if it was one plane that saved UK in the war it was the hurri, now that's a beauty!
