When I use my camera, I hear a "snap" but no picture appears in my journal. Instead, there is a blank page with the choices to restore the game or delete it. I know there should be a pi8cture on the pager. Hope you can help. Many thanks.

You have only 256 MB of system RAM. This is barely sufficient to run Win XP, let alone Myst V in addition. You should strongly consider installing at least an additional 256 MB of RAM. This may not solve the Myst V camera problem, but your entire PC will run much better!

Additional suggestions:

Steps 1 through 7 constitute a system and hard drive tune-up. While not absolutely necessary this is a *really* good thing to do. Especially for an older PC, if you haven't done it recently.

1. Use your anti-virus software to do a complete scan of your hard disk(s). This is the 'start it and let it crank' type of scan, not the bootup quickie!

Do complete spyware and adware scans of your hard disk(s). I use and recommend:
-- Spybot - Search & Destroy (http://spybot.safer-networking.de/en/download/index.html)
-- Ad-aware SE (http://lavasoft.element5.com/software/)

Both have free versions!

Be advised that Spybot and Ad-aware DO NOT protect against viruses!

2. Check your hard drive for errors. Refer to How to Perform Disk Error Checking in Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315265&Product=winxp). Close all running programs before starting the error check, and tell Windows to automatically fix file system errors. Norton SystemWorks 2005's Disk Doctor is another option.

3. Clear your Internet Explorer caches.
-- a. Close all open applications.
-- b. Open a single Internet Explorer session.
-- c. Click on Tools > Internet Options.
-- d. Click on Delete Cookies > OK.
-- e. Click on Delete Files (check the 'Delete all offline content' box) > OK.
-- f. Click on Clear History > Yes.
-- g. Click on OK to exit.

Use Windows Explorer to search all hard disks for \temp, \tmp, and \temporary folders, and delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use. If Windows complains when you try to delete a file, leave that file alone!
-- a. Click on Tools > Find > Files or Folders.
-- b. Type temp or tmp or temporary in the Named: box.
-- c. Click on the arrow at the right end of the Look in: box and then click on the disk drive to be searched.
-- d. Click on Find Now to start the search.
-- e. Click on the temp (or tmp or temporary) folders found to open them.
-- f. Delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use.

This does the minimum hard disk cleanup. For a more complete cleanup, you can run Win XP's Disk Cleanup Tool. See Description of the Disk Cleanup Tool in Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310312) for details on how to use it.

4. Defragment your hard drive. Refer to How To Analyze and Defragment a Disk in Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305781&Product=winxp) and How to Defragment Your Disk Drive Volumes in Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314848&Product=winxp). Executive Software's Diskeeper 9.0 (http://www.execsoft.com/diskeeper/desktops.asp) is another option.

5. Install Internet Explorer version 6.0 Service Pack 1, available here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1e1550cb-5e5d-48f5-b02b-20b602228de6&DisplayLang=en). This SP will install IE6 or update it, if already installed. Reboot after installation.

-- If you've had trouble logging onto Web sites or completing Internet transactions, or if you're seeing the message "HTTP 500 internal server error" when trying to visit secure Web sites, also install the Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1, available here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=254eb128-5053-48a7-8526-bd38215c74b2&displaylang=en). Reboot after installation.

6. Run Windows Update (Internet Explorer, Tools > Windows Update) and download and install whatever Update recommends, EXCEPT for new video drivers. For video drivers, see below.

7. Check your Registry for errors. Some registry diagnosis and repair tool options are:
-- Symantec's Norton SystemWorks 2005 (http://www.symantec.com/sabu/sysworks/basic/) WinDoctor.
-- Rose City Software's Registry First Aid 4.1 (http://www.rosecitysoftware.com/Reg1Aid/).
-- VCOM's Fix-It Utilities 6 (http://www.v-com.com/product/Fix-It_Utilities_Home.html) SystemRegistry-RegistryFixer utility.

So far as I know, Win XP doesn't have an equivalent built-in Registry tool. Run whichever tool you use until no more errors are discovered, and reboot when finished.

Whether you do the above or not (and you should!), don't neglect to do the following.

8. Your virtual memory paging file size is set incorrectly (at 366MB MB) for the 256 MB of RAM you have. Set both the Initial size and Maximum size of your virtual memory paging file to 512 MB. Before changing paging file settings, note what you started with. Log into Windows as an Administrator or a member of the Administrator group, then:
-- a. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
-- b. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
-- c. In the Performance pane, click Settings.
-- d. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
-- e. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.
-- f. Under Drive , click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
-- g. Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size.
-- h. Change Initial size and Maximum size to 512.
-- i. Click Set, and then click OK.
-- j. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box. Close everything back to the Desktop.
-- k. Reboot.
-- l. Play Revelation.

9. The latest video driver for your GeForce2 MX/MX 400 video chipset is NVIDIA's version 78.01. Download and install this driver as detailed in Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3471054943/m/9071035163), one of the stickied topics at the top of this Forum.

Many thanks for your suggestions. I've already ordered a 512 memory card, and will follow up on all your other suggestions. I appreciate your taking the time to be so thorough, and will let you know how it works out.

Actually I saw this a few times (and I've got 512MB ram). I checked the profile folder and the pictures appear just fine there, they just don't appear in the in-game journal.

This only affects some of the images though -- most appear just fine. It tends to be the photos of the bubbles that appear black in the journal, for some reason.

It didn't really bother me all that much, though, since I was labelling the photos anyway http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Good to hear it, Gamil! I was going to mention that I also had a camera problem, but corrected it entirely by updating my video drivers.
