View Full Version : What weight of bombs should you carry on fighter planes?

The problem is, you want to pack the biggest punch from a long ride getting to your target cause face it, you only got 1 shot. But, the bigger bombs slow you down SO much and it takes forever to get to your target. Do you get smaller bombs so you can reach the target first, or do you get bigger bombs to make the most damage?

P.S. dont talk about "figher planes are not bombers" crap. Cause you will just be wasting everyones time.

Top speed is not affected much by how small or large the bombs are that you are carrying, once you actually load bombs, you pay a penalty, but whether they are 250 lb or 1000 lb doesn't make much difference.

What is really affected is your climbrate, the larger the bomb you load, the more your climbrate is reduced.

However, if you make a point of climbing to altitude before you cross the lines, you won't face a lot of difficulty that way.

For aircraft such as the P-47, Tempest and 190, the premier fighter-bombers in the sim, the best policy is to load the maximum bombload, climb to alt on your side of the lines, make your way to a point behind the enemy target location, then make a single diving run at the target, from the enemy side towards your side. Drop all the ordanance in one pass, then continue on towards your own lines, using the speed you built up in the dive to evade enemy aircraft.

Most of the aircraft I fly can't handle more than that. I figure if I have the bombs, I won't be fighting, so I'll carry as much as possibe.

Where's the "It depends on the fighter." choice?

Load for a P-47 is going to be a bit different than for something smaller (most all of them).

The pair of beer cans on the P-11 rule!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif you can drop them acidentally while parked without too much danger. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It does, since you have to offset the weight of the bombs.
That is done by increasing CL, ergo, AoA.
This directly dranslates into drag and therefore reduced topspeed, cruising speed and range.

If I have to bomb something, Id carry as much as I could. Might as well go big, or go home. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
