One brief scene shows a female NCO on board doing a radio check. So, do the Germans allow women on subs?

Yes.

But at this moment there are only 2 woman serving aboard u-boats.

Hell, a few months ago it was only one http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

They are everywhere http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif Celeon surrenders http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

Fascinating! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif I was expecting it to be a Nuclear powered boat. I dread to think how much this costs to buy.

Approximately 230 million Euros per boat.

Thats unbelievable expensive for a non-nuclear sub but extremely cheap compared TO modern nuclear subs which are so expensive by now that many countries cant afford the money (post cold war budgets) to bring them from the blueprints to the sea or just maintain the ones they have build. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I noticed the extremely sensitive and combustable power source on board, I guess it will be cheaper in the long run compared to nuclear power - and I guess alot more environmentally friendly too?

Was the power source an extension in thinking to the power supply of the Walter boats of WWII?

In terms of maintainance it is cheaper than a nuclear drive in the short and in the long run but the fuel production is very expensive.

Enviromentally, it is cleaner than anything else. (Except the diesel of course)

It produces water as only exhaust.

Was the power source an extension in thinking to the power supply of the Walter boats of WWII?

Indeed. Walter´s idea was exactly that but the technology to realize it was not avaible.

The type XXI´s batteries had an early experimental version of something that came close to a real reversed electrolysis like the hydrogen fuel cell performs.

The fuel cell´s membranes "connect" hydrogen and oxygen atoms to form water molecules.
