Hi all,
below you'll find some information on how to track down connectivity issues when starting the game (translated from the german forum)

Part 1 - Ubisoft Game Launcher

Error: "An internet connection is required to play this game" (game does not start at all)

Your firewall is blocking outgoing connections from UGL -> Allow outgoing connections for UGL.
ZoneAlarm7 is blocking UGL without asking. Deactivating ZoneAlarm does not help. You will have deinstall ZoneAlarm7 and switch to a newer version/different firewall.
PeerGuardian is blocking UGL.
A webfilter (integrated into the firewall or installed separately) is modifying the transimted data.
In some (rare) cases when connecting from networks that require you to use a web-proxy you might have to manually enter it into the Settings.ini of the UGL. [I will add information on how to do that if the problem arises)
[/list]
Some basic tests:
Can you reach this website with your browser?
http://static3.cdn.ubi.com/orb..._launcher/latest.txt (http://static3.cdn.ubi.com/orbit/patches_launcher/latest.txt)

For experts:
1. Install a telnet client (eg. putty)
2. Open a comand shell and execute
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">telnet 216.98.51.203 13000</pre> If this times out your connection is blocked (or the servers are down)

Part 2 - Settlers 7

Error: "Server not available"
If you have changed your password - uncheck "Remember me" in the UGL (hit logout after starting) somtimes it fails to notice the change...(and then wrongly displays "Server not available")
The game cannot establish an outgoing connection on UDP ports 21000-29999 -> Check your firewall settings
On some systems there was an issue with the windows firewall excpetions - try to remove the game from the exceptions, start the game and add a new exception.

Error: Cannot join a session after invite / Multiplayer sessions are not visible <
To successfully host a MP game UDP port 9103 must be opened on your machine & forwarded on your router.
Please consult your router's documentation/the internet/your tech-savy friends/me(last) if you're having problems with this.

You can use a portchecker (like this one (http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm)) to verify that your machine is reachable from the outside.

Cheers!

OK to help the situation hopefully
Location: Australia
Net: 2.2MegaByte Cable

first site works just displays 115
second one sais it doesn't exist

I don't run behind a proxy, however our net dictates we only get a Dynamic Connection (ergo IP changes each time the computer is turned on or modem is switched on), which is the case with the vast majority of home users, Static only being available at a premium cost and for business or websites

Could that have something to do with it?

tried all the suggestions, no luck.

I'm running win7/64bit

turned off firewall in windows
removed/added exceptions again
portforwarded all ports sugggested
un/re-installed
tried on a different computer, no luck
tried at neighbours house, (xp, different ISP) no luck

telnet successfully
TCP 192.168.1.2:49859 216.98.51.203:13000 ESTABLISHED

oh, and the two links.

First one says 115 and the second

My problem seems to be slightly different, I am able to launch and connect with the ubisoft launcher, my problem is ingame when i attempt to start the campaign.

however i suspect my problem is directly linked to the problems everyone else is having atm.

The general consesus among all the hate posts

We start the game, it gets past the splash screen with the girl on a horse where the little candle burns down, but beyond that screen we get presented with

"Server not available" Please try again later

No workarounds have any effect thus far

@Jimah
No, I'm afraid your problem is different - and very unique so far http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I assume you get the same error on skirmish maps?
When you're in the main menu is anything (settlers, birds) moving on the background map?

@GameOverRIP
Dynamic IP should be just fine - we tested on DSL lines and with 24h disconnects...
Are you absolutely sure you cannot reach the second link I posted?

@asurin
The relevant servers will not respond to ping, but you should see a trace route to onlineconfigservice.ubi.com end somewhere in montreal, right?

Yes skirmish is the same.
I can start the campaign and watch the story and then listen and watch a little tutorial, but when its time for me to take over and start that is when I get the message.

EDIT== no, things dont move in the main menu. The birds are motionless in midair. The people are frozen. The camera moves across the forest to the city but everyone is motionless.
I didnt realise everything was frozen because the camera was moving I had thought it was all moving.

Any ideas on that?

asurin, the trace from your home connection is taking more than 30 jumps to reach the target. This means we can't see if it's unable to reach if-12-2-4.mcore3.MTT-Montreal.as6453.net

You need to force tracert to try for more hops - let's try 100.

>tracert -h 100 onlineconfigservice.ubi.com

Can you post the result of that and see if we're hitting the same spot.

@TEAgaspode - can you try tracert -h 100 onlineconfigservice.ubi.com ?

Your tracert is taking more than 30 hops so we're unable to see if the same link is causing the problem.

You need to force tracert to try for more hops - let's try 100.

>tracert -h 100 onlineconfigservice.ubi.com

Can you post the result of that and see if we're hitting the same spot.

No luck, 100 hops and still didn't get there. I'm going for <STRIKE>500</STRIKE> 250! this may take some time. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Update: still going. It's up to 150 hops.

When you're in the main menu is anything (settlers, birds) moving on the background map?

Dynamic IP should be just fine - we tested on DSL lines and with 24h disconnects...
Are you absolutely sure you cannot reach the second link I posted?

Yeah unfortunately the second link just goes to a Webpage not Found error http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif thats on IE8 haven't tried any other browser

not behind any firewalls/proxy's either also tried with and without my wireless router and no different

You're right, they probably are, but the point is, they shouldnt be. They should be working around the clock to fix the problem. They have a responsibility to correct the problem/s.
At the very absolute least to let us know they are working on it and what the problem is.

Yeah the people have paid for their products to play the game . When they can't play the game because of Ubisoft then they need to get a refund or a gift like the AC2 people got http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jimah
03-27-2010, 05:18 AM
I dont want a gift, I want my damn game to work or my money back in full and I want one of these ASAP.

Also, Ubisofts website declares
"Yes, Ubisoft provides 24/7 support on servers. "
So they better be working around the clock to get this problem sorted.
Yet still no reply to my support ticket and no response regarding the problems so many of us are having. Whatever happened to customer service?

Just downloaded DEMO version, and I am having the very same problem as many others here.
After launching DEMO version, it takes a while to launch, but never makes it.
Ubisoft Game Launcher says:
An internet connection is required to play this game. Failed to connect to the Ubisoft master servers. Please verify that your internet connection is functional and try again.

@Weebo1986
As far as I can see most people here did not have any problems with the demo.
Could you try some of the suggestions from my first post (Part1 - UGL)?

@m0t0k0
this is most likely due to UDP port 9103 not being reachable from the outside.
Maybe you are behind a router NAT or your firewall is blocking the port?

Hi BB_Foxbox

Thanks for joining us on the English forums http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

A friend of mine in Australia, played the demo,he was unable to connect to multiplayer, nor go into any of the chatrooms,he just had "waiting for news" at the bottom of his screen, where we see messages about Facebook etc.He could however play single player just fine,he has yet to receive his copy of S7 yet,but am guessing he will be unable to play multi,as he did open those ports for the demo, but it failed to work.

glenr1975
03-27-2010, 08:48 AM
I am also from Australia. I can confirm ports are open both on the router and I created rules for both inbound and outbound traffic UDP for the required ports 21000-29999

I have checked Silent Hunter 5 and that is working fine.

@BB_foxbox
I can see what the links hold inside, but telnet not so sure. (If I can even use it right?).
Anyways seems the problem is somewhere inside my PC, since I just tried to install game into older laptop and started the game and got into login screen (don't even try to play with it, too crappy laptop).
So I'm kinda out of ideas, windows firewall is completely shut down and it's the only one atm.

I have reinstalled the game without result. It did patch correctly also. Its getting weird...

Running on XP on both this and laptop

@pennyuk
Hi and thanks for the sticky-ing.
You're right - the problem seems to be the connection to the MP servers.
Everyone with the "Server not available" message should be able to play the demo in singleplayer mode.

Hmmm... Ok so the cable connection of mine goes this way:
cable modem (only one rj45 with no WLAN)
adsl modem (for getting more rj45 and WLAN, so adsl only works as swich (hub, or router not sure what is in english)
Laptop --> connected with WLAN to the adsl modem
Desktop PC--> connected with rj45 to the adsl modem
Both are getting their own IP address.
Laptop can get DEMO started, desktop can't.
Tried directly with rj-45 connect desktop PC to cable modem with no result
Tried directly with rj-45 connect laptop to cable modem and it works o_O

So the problem of mine is clearly not Ubisoft or internet problem, its my PC that doesn't want to co-operate with me. Anyone lend gasoline and matches? I'm out of ideas...

can't you just solve the problem, make a patch.so that we regular players who don't know how to fix ports or anything like that. don't need to. i'm getting realy disapointed in this game. i had absolutley no problem playing the demo. so can't you just fix it so that everyone can play it. and the everyone will be happy!!!!

It's getting a little silly. I bought the game on the 25th, noticing the "requires internet connection to play" sticker, believe it to be a redundant warning as I play multiple online games, installed the game and now, two days later, I still can't play the single player game I purchased for $70.

I find it a little ridiculous that I can't get to play a single player game because of a faulty connection. Really. I understand their need to protect their copyright, but seriously.

Edit: This is the error I get upon running the Ubisoft Game Launcher:

http://img2.imageshack.us/i/ub...amelaunchererro.jpg/ (http://img2.imageshack.us/i/ubisoftgamelaunchererro.jpg/)

Edit2: Ports should be open, but I've removed the UGL and Settlers 7 from the Windows Firewall exceptions and apparently the connection doesn't even leave the computer, 'cause I'm not being prompted to allow access. Just what the hell is going on? Can we have an offline patch now, or do I have to raise hell at the game store to get my game refunded?

Hey, it seems that i cant play empire mode and only 10% of all the multiplayer servers work for me. And for some silly reson the game keeps disconnecting me from the internet which has never had any problems before...

I got no firewall, i turned of the windows 7 one and i set the ports to 21000-29999.

Its kinda silly that everytime i turn of the game, the game crashes or when i alt tab that the game just dissconnects me from the internet (and some times even when i play).

Right now i wish i could have a refund, please make a patch to fix this.

edit: and i am from sweden.

@Weebo1986
We had that error once during the beta-test and it turned out to be due to malware on the system.
Not saying that this must be the reason, but you might want to run an up-to-date virus&malware scanner on your system...
If that's not the cause - read on:

@Qaoz
You could disable your firewall briefly just to make sure whether it is blocking the UGL or not.
If you cannot get it to work please send us your UGL logfiles (the text files from "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\"). You can zip them up and upload them to us via the Solution Center (http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php) - please mention Settlers 7 in the "question" box and add a short description of your network setup (router, service provider).

I think I may have found a solution. I've been getting the same "Server not available" rubbish for 2 days. Despite opening the 8999 ports in my firewall between 21000-29999....still the same problem. Then I tried to get my routed to forward all of those ports.... same problem.

Next I tried turning off my firewall.... and the game worked! So, turned the firewall on again..... "server not available". I took a look at my firewall log for blocked packets....

udp Incoming 216.98.48.107 22450(Sin Game) 192.168.0.100 9103(Unknown) 27/03/2010 18:55:44

Turns out, that remote port is trying to access local port 9103, and is getting blocked. So I opened port 9103 on UDP - and now the game is running fine. Worth a try.

Im having the same server not available crap... it looks like Valqorez26 was able to solve the issue by shutting down his ISP's firewall.

My guess is we can't get access because our ISP's are blocking something? I don't know but this is quite irrating. The worst part is, I can't return the game. Fine it doesn't work, Ubi and messed up is a huge way... would be okay if I could return it and just never buy another ubi game. Now im sitting with something I paid for that I cant use and there is nothing I can do about it.

I hope someone takes a legal path there... would be interesting.

Here's a thought Ubi

why not distribute your DRM to major local ISP in each country and let them run it on one of thier local severs

For Australia Telstra would be a option.

then the DRM can be happy connecting locally and we can all .. you know... PLAY THE GAME WE PAID FOR.

You know Australian ISP are notorius for blocking low range ports at thier end (i.e. we have no control over that) and yes 21000 is a low range port
How bout you simply let us access the sever from much higher range ports.

And baring any of those logical suggestions how bout we just start surfing torrent site for illegal cracks so we can acutally PLAY THE GAME WE PAID FOR WITHOUT HASSLE.

And I thought Starforce was a bad DRM http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I have an internet connection which terminates on my PC, so no modem and/or router.

I have tested my windows firewall on all different kinds. I switched it of completely, added very wide "allow" rules but until now no success.

I just found the windows firewall logfiles. You can get logs with all the DROPs and ALLOWs. Guess what? None of the described traffic in this thread is blocked.

So since I'm now sure my PC doesn't block anything it is blocked by my ISP, or isn't blocked at all.

Also might add if they have just for agruments sake 1000 emails come through complaining about the game every day, and also death threats, ya think they are gonna respond to yours or mine alone instantly?

Hell the standard response time for most business's support is 2-6days during business hours regardless of whether they have 24/7 support or not

ITS NOT THE DRM. LOL
If it was we wouldn't even get syncing with the saves, it's a routing issue somewhere alone the line between us and the main servers

Oh but it is the DRM because its based on a flawed system of persistent server connection.

I have a clue and can open ports

I also have 9103 and 21000-29999 setup to be open on the router as well and on those same sites those ports are not open.

conclusion ISP is probably blocking them

You forgot to mention if your ports are TCP / UDP.

If you are talking by UDP you must have a program running on your PC which accepts the UDP messages. Further more, the UDP protocol is stateless, so unless a response is send to the "testing" sites they have no way on knowing you have those ports open.

But anyway, the exercise is futile. Unless you are specificly talking about hosting MP games, there is no need for open inbound ports. I guess BB only want everybody to know that these port shouldn't be blocked by a firewall, which is a totally different thing from NA(P)T routing.

UDP ports test tool

So, I wanted to get rid of the whole firewall discussion. Personally I was already convinced it wasn't the source of the problems, but I needed to support that theory with testresults.

I builded a UDP PingPong system. I setup a server in Holland which listens to UDP ports 21000 until 29999. Secondly, I builded a client which tests those channels.

The server has an easy job. When a packet arrives it just sends the same data back to the source. Hence I called it PingPong.

The client lets you enter a IP for the server and an interval for the ports. Sure you can test all ports, but that would blow up my server I guess. So starting on 21000 you can select a stepping between 10 and 1000. 10 tests ports 21000, 21010, 21020, etc.

My run results are OK! I tried it with a stepping of 1 and I can send a requests and receive the responses on all 9000 ports! This is the proof it is not an UDP blocking issue.

Maybe it is a good idea to run this test for other users.

Click here for a print screen of the results (http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/3026/18579116.png)

Thanks a Moderatory answered. I am in freaking Canada, I have opened all my ports and connections and I still get the server not available. This has nothing to do with where you are located in the freaking world...this is a DRM issue. I will be contacting STEAM on monday and asking for a refund because the game servers are not available and can not use the game I purchased. I will also NOT be buying Assasins Creed 2 and RUSS (which I have been loving the beta) because of this crap persisitant connection.

I am now at the point of starting to look at any other solution so that I can play this legitimately purchased game without dealing with UBI.

Bought the game a couple of days ago and really dissapointed in the gross lack of support from Ubi.
Perth, Australia here, and same 'Server not available, please try again later' error.

Just thinking though, does this have anything to do with the new government imposed mandatory internet filter which is currently being trialed with most 'Australian' major ISP's. Of course without the knowledge of consumers might I add. Only aware of it as I'm party to a hate campaign against our lovely Senator Stephen Conroy, Australia's Broadband & Communications Minister, what an a$$

It hasn't been implemented yet, so no. Additionally, filter only works on the web-- it wouldn't affect Ubisoft's DRM or the MP side of the game.

Nope, it's the internet filter. I asked the same question in the other tread and somebody pointed out the only filter sites and not whole ports. Further more, it isn't in use yet and I proved there is no restriction in the UDP traffic which is required for the DRM.

At about 11pm last night the game started working for me. I made no changes to my system between then and the last time I wasn't able to get in.
It has been working fine since.

My brother and I had been in touch with tatacommunications over the irreguality we noticed on the last trace route I posted. (The device that was looping back on iteslf).

THey emailed back that they found nothing wrong, so my brother ran another trace route and the irregality has been fixed. At about the same time I was able to play the game.

My ISP in Australia is Internode.

THe other thing I noticed is I now see the animated Ubisoft Logo, and the intro animation people mentioned being in the demo. Before I just saw the city after the girl on horse graphic.

I hope Ubisoft are able to resolve everyone elses issues today. Good luck everyone.
This is where I posted the Trace Route (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6061083365/m/4651055548?r=9411027548#9411027548)

Hi everyone !

I also have the "Server Not Available" problem. I opened the UDP ports like it is suggested in the first post and I also tried the firewall exceptions trick but it didn't work either.

I do not live in Australia but in Reunion Island (french territory in Indian Ocean near Madagascar). I headr that most users in France do not have that issue. So could it be that Reunion Island just cannot connect to the ubi servers because it is not recognized as french territory ? (it already happened even with game servers located in France).

I hope that there will be a solution to that issue soon. Still I keep trying... Who knows... Maybe I'll find a ****ion myself.

I just wanted to report it here.

when will it be sorted out so i can play the game because i am getting sick of recieving the same message all the time. It is about time it was fixed. if one of the servers is down then fix it.

It would be nice to get a response from a moderator about how we can acquire a refund.... or at least an ETA on when they fix the problem. Its absurd that they release a new game and the support forums are a ghost town for moderators.

Your poorly thought out legal threats don't help fix the problem. This thread is for working out why we can't connect - if you want to pretend to be a lawyer somewhere, can you do it in another thread?

Considering it takes 24 hours to reply to tickets they're the best chance to actually get an answer or some information from Ubisoft representatives. How is it not their job to post an ETA on fixing a technical issue on the technical forums? How about before you post think "Am I just being a jerk on the internet or is this actually helpful"

The countless screams and caterwauls for assistance/refunds/legal action aren't helpful. Moderators moderate - they structure the discussion and make sure it obeys rules of civility. They probably don't know any more than you or I about the cause of the problem, or when it is expected to be fixed.

Irrational demands don't help. I just want to play Settlers - I don't give a crap about the rest of this whinging. Can we just work on why the hell our connections are dropping in Montreal?

I can understand why it is frustrating for all the players who bought the game expecting it to work immediately they installed in on their pc.

I'm sorry, are we "expecting" too much? My sincere apology, I will quietly sit in the corner and play when told to.

But next time, perhaps put a sticker on the box, "Don't expect too much" so I know for sure what to "expect".

Guys calm down...everyone is getting stressed out and thats understandable, but yelling and calling each other names, isnt helping anyone.

Someone from the company is helping people,BB Fox is from Bluebyte, but also appreciate its not easy for them to fix something overnight, they made the game, they are not internet engineers, they cant reproduce the problem at their end,so not as easy as making a patch.People keep blaming the DRM,if they patched it out then what? those who want to play online still wouldnt be able to play as there seems to be a problem somewhere between your ISP and UBI`s but that doesnt mean the server if been blocked belongs to either company
many of these servers belong to other companies, and just used as a hop on the way to the destination server.

Why not try posting a trace route so BB can see if there is a certain hop causing the problem, this would help everyone, unlike the flaming that is happening right now

zwonker
03-28-2010, 02:49 AM
that's the problem, we haven't seen ANYTHING from any official BB or UBI representative (no offence, but you are *just* a forum moderator)

If what you are saying is true, then that's the FIRST time we ever got ANY feedback...

That's what ****ing (i'm more disappointed than anything) ppl off, lack of communication why their game is not working, we are supporting them and their new DRM and this is what we get, a stone wall.

Here's novel idea, release a patch that circumvents the DRM server http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Give us some IP addresses to tracert to. We've done all the ports and that's not working.

Today I have performed a lot of tracert's to 'lb-ws.ubisoft.com' using www.traceroute.org (http://www.traceroute.org).

No matter where you start the trace, it always goes wrong in Montreal (australia, the netherlands, malaysia, japan, etc., etc.) ....

Anyways, just run full system scan for malware/virus/troijans etc. Full clean and still nothing, same problem as before can't get in.

I see that foxbox is reading the forums today.

Can we please get an update on the "server not available" issue. Preferably, what the problem is (you must of figured it out by now) and an ETA on when it will be resolved. This is not too much to ask. It should be done without us even asking.

Jimah
03-28-2010, 04:35 AM
What is most disappointing is the way Ubisoft is handling this issue, or rather - how they are not handling this issue.
Thanks again to Foxbox for having a shot at helping but this is clearly off Foxbox's own back, not because Blue Byte is taking an official course of action in reaction to the problem.

Ubisoft - problems happen, we are all human and we all understand that - but to ignore your customers, to leave them totally and completely in the dark with no response at all is shameful.

It would take them less than a minute to put together a quick announcement on their main website and on their own forums even along the lines of 'Oops, it seems some of our customers are having problems with Settlers 7, but we are aware of the issue/s and are working hard to get you back in the game as soon as possible'.

Leaving us completely in the dark is a very silly thing to do, its just going to cause alot of loyal customers to walk away and cause them to not want to purchase Ubisoft games in the future, as well as create damaging press that will persuade future customers to steer clear - and this is at a time when customers are already weary of purchasing Ubisoft's products because of their controversial DRM.

Think Ubisoft, think. We arent expecting miracles, we are just asking for a little recognition of the issue and the situation we are in.

You have our cash and we have nothing.

D4rcos
03-28-2010, 06:30 AM
Really? 2 hours and still no response?

I know they are reading the boards, they are posting elsewhere. They are simply choosing to ignore the issue.

I am returning this game... and if they say no, I am going to take this as far as I possibly can.

You could try emailing them, say you are having trouble communicating past their routers and paste the trace route in there.

lb-ws.ubisoft.com

Is this the official Ubisoft server?

Anyway, it struck me how one might be able to fix all of this, or at least a lot of it: Disable DRM in a patch and change the game to save to a local folder instead.

I'm a genius! Oh, wait, games have been doing that for the last couple of decades. Guess I reinvented the wheel there.

The timeouts you're getting from the traceroute are not the problem - the servers beyond that point are configured not to respond.

(Un)fortunately I'm not at work right now, which puts me kind of "out of the loop". I'll make sure you get an official status update tomorrow at the latest.

Anyway, it struck me how one might be able to fix all of this, or at least a lot of it: Disable DRM in a patch and change the game to save to a local folder instead.
Ironically that's the part that seems to be working http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif (that's what the UGL does)

More info for my situation: Just thought that UBI was blocking my desktop PC but it's not. I made local area network via laptop, so laptop and desktop pc had both same IP-address through to internet. Then tried to start the game with laptop (worked like usually) but desktop sticks with the same problem.
Now I have tried everything I can come up. Basically identical situations but desktop pc won't start the DEMO version.

To continue solving this problem I belive I need to find out that log file more carefully. I'll send log files to Solution Center also.

These logs are from orbitdll_launcher_log.txt (just if anyone recognizes having the same issues)

Then I suppose it's the dormitory router that's blocking the signal. I've mailed the admin in the hope that he'll check ports 21000-29999, in case they aren't open. At least I know it's not the connection to the server, but rather the connection out of the house.

Which means I'll shut up until the admin guy takes a look at the router.

That could well be the reason, a friend of mine using the dormitory connection at the Aberdeen University in Scotland can't connect either, the network there won't even let him access iTunes, while another friend in a dormitory Denmark can connect without problems to the game.

As a matter of interest, how are you connecting to your router with the computers, wifi or direct cable?

I recall seeing someone with the same problem, and his desktop used a direct cable, and wouldn't connect, but his laptop used wifi and had no problem.

He eventually got a cheap wifi adaptor for his desktop and was able to connect to the game, I can only assume there was something wrong with his ethernet adaptor or its settings.

....

When you talk about the timeouts I can understand your answer. But, in the beginning of the thread there were response which ended with "destination unreachable" en later the "loops" by a router in Montreal. Those two problems are not the result of a server not replying to pings / traceroutes.

I've been having these problems for the past 72 hours with 'Unable to connect'. I just tried switching to wireless and no luck so I swapped back to ethernet cable. Then I rebooted my router (Billion BiPAC 7300g RA) and it worked! Although I noticed a few people are on campus etc and do not have that accessibility. So yeah, rebooting my router fixed it...

this whole site is getting on my nerves too, half the time i can't even post, complains im already logged in, logout and login again which just goes to a system error page

Probably all part of the same problem. Ubisoft have no idea but thats a seperate issue.

Yeah I dunno if it was just dumb luck... I was getting stuck in the Montreal loop too which is weird because router settings try to prevent hitting loops with their packet forwarding techniques.

Hey BB-Firefox
Probably has nothing to do with the problem at hand, dunno if this is anything you may be able to decipher.

in My Documents settlers 7 creates a folder and theres a Profiles.xml in that, which it creates during the loading process after the game launcher, something weird within that

<LastSynchTime>
<BlockVersion name="LastSynchTime" version="1" />
<Year>1970</Year>
<Month>1</Month>
<Day>1</Day>
<Hour>0</Hour>
<Minute>0</Minute>
<Second>0</Second>
</LastSynchTime>

now you can change those values and it has no effect, but don't you think it's strange that it creates these entries? January 1, 1970 at 12am as last sync time. If you delete the file it creates exactly the same one again with these values

Also within that file it lists me as female, when my profile sais otherwise :P

zwonker
03-28-2010, 04:45 PM
It's common,

"Allocates a Date object and initializes it to represent the specified number of milliseconds since the standard base time known as "the epoch", namely January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 GMT."

So it's simply a standard that's commonly used in the computer industry.

Platform Epoch
Unix 1970-01-01
IBM 1900-01-01
Macintosh 1904-01-01
Windows/32 1601-01-01
DOS 1980-01-01
Excel/PC 1899-12-31
COBOL/ANSI 1601-01-01
COBOL/Lilian 1582-10-15
OpenVMS Alpha 1858-11-17

So their DRM platform must be UNIX http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I am sorely disappointed with this game due to it's unplayability with " Server Unavailable". One would think that on the first weekend of a release that Ubisoft would be doing cartwheels to keep Settlers 7 initial purchasers happy and be at least replying to this torrent of complaints. The people who buy a game when it's first released will set the expectations and write all the early user reviews. Undoubtably there is a lot of money spent developing a game like this and to just destroy their investment with this abyssmal service is really stupid. The consequence of worrying too much about thwarting pirates, who were never going to buy this game anyone, is to diminish your sales when potential buyers find out about the server/DRM problems

JvdBerg80
03-28-2010, 07:28 PM
@ Blue Byte / Ubi:

I just used a network packet analyser / "sniffer" to have a detailed look at the traffic. I saved the packets as an .PCap dump file and uploaded it to my ticket '100329-000001'

The packets will show you a number of things. It proofs the lively conversations between the launcher / game and the servers. A lot of encrypted stuff on the ~13000 ports (TCP) and a major conversation over UDP. Funny to notice that the UDP traffic starts at about 20000 and not 21000 as in your first post.

In conclusion: the message "Server Not Available" is total BS. There are no failed connection attempts to any server. All connections are setup and data is sent and received. There is just no way left in which the hosts are to blame for the problem ... it must be the servers or a buggy client.

taqret
03-28-2010, 07:46 PM
Obviously these server and connection problems are on UbiSoft's end. Various folks from all over the world are having the sort of same issues. I'm in Texas and almost never have connectivity isues. My game connection goes up and down sporadicallly. I was able to play once for about an hour but other times it drops me either immediately or after about a minute.

Still doesn't explain why random amercians, europeans (scandinavian) and the occasional south african can't play either. But i'm with you, think they've got some sort of region block on it. We will see a "patch" that will fix our launcher and point to a different DRM server.

If there is a region block it must be based on our Keys and not our IP numbers.

And about the non-australians who get the same message, ofcourse they can have problems with firewalls. While the australians and the sporadic non-australians get the same error, it doesn't need to be for the same reason. It's truly amazing to see the number of australians compared to the non-australians.

Yup my local EB games listed 25/3 as the release date but they didn't get copies til the following day and a small games shop had 1 copy on the 25th which i picked up. So if they were not ready, they shouldn't have been distributed.
But since not everyone is blocked out it's obviously working and not totally broken

I don't blame the store, as they are just going on info given to them by there distributor and they are not legally obliged to give a refund either. EB Games are usually pretty lenient though at the very least you could get a store credit

Unfortunately with online games they can't resell it so they would be reluctant to give a full refund. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I dont blame the store either, but it is not the manufacturer of products that issues a refund, it is the seller/store you brought it from.

Being an online game doesnt make a lick of difference mate, they are responsible for providing the product as advertised and since it does not work and a replacement will not work either we are legally entitled to a refund from the seller.

@Malimber101

They have already said that that isn't the issue. It looks like the issue is CD keys that haven't been activated or something, then again, they said it wasn't a CD key issue. They seem to be caught in their lies.

Tried my own account after getting on my mates account successfully, and mine does not work yet his does. So just for fun i tired his again and it works sweet as, but mine doesn't GRRR!!

So by the looks of things there is nothing wrong with my internet or their servers... Looks to me as if it is an account/cd key issue.

What I got today (never happened before to me):

I was doing this Multiplayer game (demo, still) with another guy from Germany (I live in The Netherlands). After like an hour of playing it was 3 vs 3 in VP's, so quiet exiting! Then, just at once, everything stopped in-game except for the music.

It happened to me, and to the German guy, but we were still be able to chat with eachother.. after 10 minutes of waiting (and chatting), he decided to leave the game.

So, we didn't get an error-message that there was no server available, but the game just froze and that was it.

Happened exactly 2 times today (2 games with same German guy) and this were also the 2 games I tried to play today.

Ill try another game later on, to see if it was a 1 to 1 problem (him or me) or just overall server problem.

So if you know someone who's copy works, get them to log in with your ubisoft account, and you will be good to go.

good luck to everyone

THIS REALLY DOES WORK, Just tested it with me and my brother's account and it's fine.

Seriously, this works for the Australian "Server not found" error.

I can probably now do it for others...

I'm afraid not :/ I have spent literally HOURS for solving and finding where the problem is.
It seems that problem is something to do with this pc, dunno maybe reinstall windows would help (not gonna do it thought, atleast not yet http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

All advises are welcome.

That frekking TCPSocket.cpp causes the error, it just can't get through even everything should be fine.

Weird btw that you can get through with laptop too.. I tried to desktop-->laptop-->router just for getting same ip but no result, still refuses

It is weird man. I've got both machines running cabled connections off the same router, both XP SP3, pretty much identical anti-virus/firewall etc. In fact I moved the desktop to the DMZ and even ran it straight through the cable modem, made no difference. Still get error 10022.

And there doesn't seem to be any docs/support anywhere (for any Ubi game) related to this TCP error.

Weebo1986

It is very weird. Your having cable connection also? What is the modem of yours? Mine is Thomson TCM420.
I runned my laptop straight to router with cable rj45 (disabled wlan) and it still worked.

Laptop gets through no matter what internet connection I use, but desktop won't work at all.

I even transfered ubisoft game launcher files from laptop to desktop pc and nothing...

From Houston, TX, USA, and while I was able to log on to and play the game for a brief few hours thursday evening,(it did give me the server error twice) during which I thoroughly enjoyed the game, since late that evening I have been getting the same server not available message after the loading screen. It is now monday evening, and still no patches or fixes.

To go on record, it is pathetic that UBI, being so concerned with piracy, has shot itself in the foot going with the server/drm route. Sure, they are saying the DRM is working, well and good, but if they hadnt tried to use the server/DRM method in the first place, this wouldn't be happening, and that is the point.

I just bloody want to play single player and enjoy some good city building and strategy, not sit here looking at server errors over a part of the game that shouldn't need one in the first place. Someone noted stardocks success in this thread, might want to start taking some notes......(goes to start up the *cough* offline *cough* singleplayer of SOSE: Diplomacy).

Im glad to hear that mate, but I changed my password just now and now I cant even get to the menu anymore - now im stuck with the same server unavailable message as everyone else.
Before I could get to the menu and select a game mode, even see the campaign story before I got stuck with connection issues.
Oh well, broken is broken, I still cant play.

This is great news foxbox.

Its still bitterly disappointing that we have not received even an official recognition from Ubisoft. A bad situation has been made so much worse because of the way Ubisoft has (hasnt) handled this. Please be sure to let them know that they've lost soooo many customers and potential business over the way this has been handled.
Thanks for taking the brunt of our frustration.

Nice, I've been having some issue's too, so hopefully whatever you come up with will fix it. I have an open ticket with Ubisoft for about a week now with no results in addressing my issue.

I have the proper ports open, I can create multiplayer sessions, and I can join ones that I'm invited to, however I can not see any games on the multiplayer lobby. Also when I connect to sessions I'm invited to, I get randomly disconnected from the game at times. :/

They wont talk about security, because their board decided, so they cant talk about it.

You wont even talk to the people in charge, because you, dear buyer are just a mere slave to the company who purchased the chains himself.

They cant update, because the company government decided that this security is best and they dont give a damn about what the buyers thinks.

In simple words: useless help, useless forum and useless game, fitting to the Orwel's world 1984 PERFECTLY.
Deciding WHEN and IF you can even play a game you purchased by servers administrators: coming soon. I bet in a few years they will make a limit of time play for person. Sound ridiculous? Oh, if you had asked a person in '99 that internet will be necessary for single player mode, he would have sent you to the asylum. Orwels actually stares in awe.

I have it on my mac, with everything up to date patch wise on the OSX and the game.

goes to the usually unable to find server.

I am using a Hughes net connection. Brand new Mac.

I dont have any problems with telnet, pining the ip addresses listed earlier on this forum.

Sadly still nothing works from the moment of purchase to this moment.

Any ideas?

UDP port 9103 must be opened on your machine & forwarded on your router

and thats official from BlueByte. You wont hear anything from UBI, they're on an island sipping pina coladas from the money they made on AC2 and S7...

100 YEARS OF PEACE? - More like 5 hours of misery!!! I have played through to 100 years of peace without a problem tonight however has been nothing but misery and frustration. 2 minutes from victory after hours and hours of working and reworking my plans only to be kicked out of the game and then be unable to get back into it. I am just about ready to send this one and the one I have coming tomorrow back to Amazon as unfit for purpose and get a refund. Shame really as what little I have played was very good was looking forward to palying my brother but now don`t think the agrevation is worth it.

Everyone read the following taken from http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...365/m/9121044648/p/1 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6061083365/m/9121044648/p/1)

UPDATE:
We have tracked down the issue - it's a problem that occurs when linking your keys to the multiplayer profile.
Ubisoft GNS and TG-OPS are currently working on a solution - I'll keep you updated.

How long obviously is a matter of stress, but atleast BB-Firefox throughout this all has been there trying to do something

i am waiting for tomorrow when the bloke said that the game was going to work. He was from ubi was he, Brenden was this name. So pig will fly again with luck. But then again april fools day is tomorrow in Australia.

Yes well that is obviously not true,

A) The game's not region locked, people all over the world can and can't connect.

B)People in Australia have been able to play so the servers were there all along

B) Ubisoft have just said it's an authentication error, which most knew all along

hopes all will be well tomorrow, being 1 full week since i bought the game, and no it wasn't, it was someone saying they spoke to Ubi Tech

I wonder when we'll get the next update from BB_foxbox... been a while now.

I got the night off, so hopefully they'll fix it within the next couple of hours so I can play.

A file error occurred ("C:\Users\****\Documents\Settlers7\\Profiles.xml")!
and quits the desktop.
After every mission.
This solution will help me too?
Please do it something!

Na not after every mission, I meant once. if it does it every time then there's a deeper issue that needs tech support

the game should save by itself at set amounts of time, whatever that is i can't tell you. You can also assumedly save at will to.

also on the game launcher theres an option to disable saving online which would atleast ensure your saves don't get corrupted by there servers.

Save often is the advice it seems. Don't ask me how to do that cause atleast you can play to get those errors http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif i along with countless others haven't been able to login to the game for a week since buying it.

As for the missions crashing, there are other topics on that in these forums, so i'd say you aren't alone. check those out

The game seems totally fooked for almost everyone

Just bought the game in the UK and I can't get past "Server Not Available" either. Although sometimes it says "Network Error" instead.

The firewall rules are correct and I've deleted and recreated them to be certain, in Windows (7 x64 ultimate).

My Hardware firewall isn't blocking the outbound connection - I allow all outbound connections. However that requires that the inbound connection comes back on the same Port. If that is not the case then we need to know what outbound/inbound port pairings are in use in order to allow port triggering.

I've hardcoded (as a temporary measure because it's unacceptable) 21000-29999 to port forward to the PC but that doesn't help.

So either it's replying on a port outside that range or the servers aren't replying properly at all.

And as soon as I posted that it worked... doh! Just this once anyway. I ran it with Admin priviledges this time but I had tried that several times before.

For me, the frustrating thing is it works 95% of the time, but 5% of the time the network/servers are down...which is NOT what is said on the box...it said must have internet connection to play, which i have...problem is on Ubi's end as it works 95% of the time. Why do I feel like i'm renting the game? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif (still fun, and very well done..).

This is BS! I might as well wait for Skidrow to come out with a crack so i can play a game I paid for!

I don't know how long it will last, but I turned on my save game synchonization on the game launcher and I can now get past the loading screens and start skirmish games. The option is there when it gives the countdown to log game start, its the little star shaped icon where the minimize button is, click it and it will give you the option, worth a shot.

EDIT: it seems to work about every other time, so whatever the issue is, it's still there, and needs to be fixed, but hey, it's better than nothing

I was able to play about an hour, when I installed the game. After that no luck. But when reinstalling the game (3rd time), it download the patches but never connect after that. So, this is my last game from Ubisoft, I'm returning the game to Amazon plus 2 other games for same reason. BTW, the cracked Silent hunter works, the purchased copy is not. Better to wait when they crack Settlers, it will not take a long. Why to be honest and pay $50 dollars if you can't play. Like that I will get $150 bucks back and play some more friendly games from more friendly developer.

I am also getting server not available, try again later messages. I reload the game 2-3 times and I finally get access.

I guess more people in CANADA are buying the game and connecting hey. Take note, please. I'm in suburban Toronto, Ontario.

Hmmm. Please add me to the list also. After several trials, I could finally start playing the tutorial, but it just crashed because of the network error and brought me back to desktop. Now do I enjoy that looooong and sloooow intro each time...
It´s a shame really, I am a long time player (since Settlers 2) and really looked forward to playing this new version. I feel like I threw my money out of the window on something not even Beta ready!
Doesn´t even surprise me that much, seeing the, erm, let´s say ´speed´ of UBI website! It´s a shame really.

Ah, before you ask, I´m on a fast Mac with ditto internet connection (just measured 21.5mbps down / 5.5mbps up).
Shame on you UbiSoft, this could and should have been tested more thoroughly before release and starting to cash money!

Turns out I installed Firewall by ZoneAlarm and I would guess that was my problem. After uninstalling aswell as setting every port and firewall to open game still didnt work. I tried removing registry files manually but didnt work.

I ended up formatting JUST for this game. Its working now.

I would suggest users in the US to try game on fresh intalled computer before blaming their connection issue on ubisoft.

Tried putty, setting it to Telnet 216.98.51.203 13000

it just sites there with a blank terminal for 30seconds then "Connection Closed by Remote Host"

and that's it, nothing displays

unless ofcourse i did it wrong.

Tried using windows 7 telnet - command "o 216.98.51.203 13000" and it just errors Connection to host lost after a minute or so

This is what I get when using telnet.
Mind you I have disabled my Firewall (Avira) and put my PC into the router's DMZ. That means I have a direct link to the internet.

Seriously, there should be NO need to format any drive/drives just to get a game working, then its crap development. And for those people that aint got another computer (as most people just have one?) dont see that other "tip" of yours as a option.
