Jeez, Waldo. Tell us what you really think... LOL. I'll pick it up for grins. Historical accuracy may be a bit off but it was always a fun show for a bit of mindless entertainment. All the best, LongHorn

LOL...I loved that show when it was on (of course, I was just a kid at the time), and even though it's historically inaccurate, and a good bit cheezy, it's fun for a little warbird action.

Dunno if I'll buy it...but we'll see.

Boyington was technical advisor...

According to Robert Conrad (who played Boyington in the series), Boyington walked with him down the 'runway' once while in production, and said "You know, Conrad, I wish you had been with us in the 214"

Conrad said, "Why, thank you sir"

Boyington replied "Thank me, nothing. I'd just have liked to kick your butt. You're an arrogant little
sumb!tch."

At least, that's what Conrad said

Could never bear to watch it for more than ten minutes- the natural byproduct of knowing too much about the subject (I was in my early twenties when it came out & had read the book). that one will never make it to my shelves...

cheers

Let me get this right,

Those of you that dont like it, dont like it due to ist unrealstic nature?

But yet you play this game unrealistly! WHo cares if the shows were unrealistic, which ones are?

@ Chuck : nice story about Boyington and Bob Conrad. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Thanks for the news, Hawk. This is one of the TV shows I was hoping would show up on DVD soon too. Combat was also another one, but season 1 and 2 of that show is on DVD already.

It's just a TV show, folks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Blackadder's WWI exploits were more historically accurate, but come on, just a TV show. I know more about muscle cars than I want to know, but I still enjoy the Dukes of Hazard. When Cale Yarborough hits the "turbo" button in the General Lee? It's a laugh

At least, that's what Conrad said

LOL! Is that true? Kewl! I remember there was an episode where Boyington played some general that came to inspect the unit.. or something like that. It would be worth buying it just for all the pics of the planes in it.. At the time, it was the biggest collection of F4u around.. I also remember the show where they had the P38s show up.. Something about the highest USMC and USAAF pilot.. I think they were refering to McGyer? It was a grea TV show.. and much better than most anything on TV today. As for it being historic.. PFFFFFFFFFFffffffffffff! I dont think it ever claimed to be! Where as the HISTORY channel should be sued sometimes for what they try and sell as history! At least BBBS was honest about it being fiction.

I can recall watching it with my dad about the time that new TV show called Star Trek was comming out.. I just cant remember if it was in re-runs at the time.

Combat ! is already out on DVD. Season 1 and 2 so far. I have them on my Netflix want list.

On BBBS, I also remember an episode where they had a take on a celebrity going to visit VMF-214 and wanted to see some combat action, sort of like when Charles Lindbergh "persuaded" Gen. Kenney to let him go on some combat missions on a P-38.

"RAT PATROL! Man your dating yourself!"
Yup , i watched it as a kid then saw some episodes later on , maybe 5 years ago.
I grew up in so cal and they taped black sheep about 45 minutes away from where i lived by magic mountain. In a couple of episodes you can see the tower on a hilltop from the park! I remember driving past the site and seeing all the corsairs lined up with a couple zeros ( dont know if they were real)and the palm trees , quansit huts and the tower could be mostly seen from the hiway. Wish i could have gone there to see the stuff up close !
Ah youth seems so long ago! Im only 45 going on ten!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If your still in So. Cal or come back to visit, you have to go to chino.. They got some of the neatist stuff out there.. Like the last flyable zero with the orginal engine (rebuild of corse) .

I loved Black Sheep Squadron when I was a kid in the seventies. But D@mn, it is so dorky now. It was done with the same standards of BJ and the Bear. I bet some of the nurses that came out later on Black Sheep Squadron were the same girls BJ was getting when the Bear wasn't looking. BJ, who in the h3ll would want to be called BJ? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Hmmm, what show was more realistic, Black Sheep Squadron or Battlestar Galactica? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
