I am about to purchase trackir. I found version 4 w/ clip pro for 120.00. And the 5 w/clip pro for about 170.00. I could do without the clip but wanted to know if there really is a major difference between 4 and 5 and if anyone still user 4. Also how they like them both.

Does anyone have one for sale? 4 or 5?

Thank you

Track Ir5 is a free upgrade from 4 so just buy 4 and then download the update. The main difference I have found with 5 is better ambient light filtering. I can not imagine using IL2, FSX, or RoF without it.

This is not quite correct.

TIR 5 is a new unit with improved features.
The SW is a free upgrade. I have had 1,2 & 4.. I suggest that you forget about the clip,it is a waste of money IMO.. Either go with TIR 4 for $100 or go with TIR 5 for $150. 4 is good... 5 may be a bit more future proof.. but 4 is a good unit and if money isd an issue then go with 4. I believe they improved the stand on 5. The stand on 4 was kind of flimsy.. mine has been broken long ago.
TIR 4 (http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/02-products/product-TrackIR-4-PRO.html)

TIR 5 (http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/products/trackir5/)

I believe TIR 5 has a wider FoV and a higher sampling rate.

I got the 4.Very good.Had 3Pro before and it was not that huge difference, for me, between those two.Bought the 4 ,mainly for the built in 6dof.Am I the only one who actually likes the clip? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I have 4 and use the clip - works very well - never had a problem with it. The 5 software is a slight improvement on the 4 software. IMHO.

Sorry about that - I thought it was only a software upgrade http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

Did they ever fix the issue with not being able to invert the axis? The stand on my TIR broke.. so I have it mounted upside down on my monitor with double sided tape.. but I had to invert the axis to get it to work right.. not a problem in the old SW but in the new SW the invert feature did not work.

I still use a 4 and I also use the Track Clip.

I much prefer it because a gentleman does not wear a hat indoors. Far more comfortable on warm days as well.

Bearcat - It's a while ago now but I'm pretty sure it was inverted when I first set it up. Took me a while and a few trips to the Natural Point web site to sort it out. Been fine ever since. Wish I could remember the details. I do remember being quite frustrated with it when I first got it - it definately did not work 'right out of the box'. Wouldn't be without it now though. TrackIR converted me to full time cockpit view. No inversion problems with version 5 of the software here.

I've been extremely happy with my free headtracking alternative using a vx1000 microsoft webcam. Recently went to a cap from a clip and that cap is the only way to go. It totally rocks and I couldn't be happier with it so no need for TrackIR.

I recently went from Tir4 to Tir5. Tir5 is a great improvement over the 4, and well worth the extra $50.

With the extra 100 bucks or so you spent as apposed to the free alternative you could have bought one of these and had just as good a head tracker IMO.

Track IR is a must. I've had the original Track IR and Track IR 3 Pro. I upgraded to Track IR 5 and the ProClip that I'm very happy with. Its certainly beats wearing the geeky antenna when answering the door.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Track IR 5 has a higher resolution which makes tracking that much smoother.

I upgraded from TIR 2 (never liked it) to TIR 5 + Track Clip Pro (the latter is the flimsier piece of H/W I've ever had ...) , and I'm happy with it, apart from some random glitches of its software. It makes virtual flying a lot easier and natural, I could not do without it now.

Cheers,
