P40 = Pinto?

I think not.

I'd say more like a Fairlane GT, if you are staying with the Ford family.

911, goes like stink, but dangerous handling unless you know what you're doing, but if you can master it... and aircooled.

Given the Typhoons and Tempest shakey start and engine problems (and the later 2's high performance) they are most definatly TVR's.

Hurricane - Original Tuscan
Typhoon - Cerbera 4.2
Tempest - Cerbera Speed 12.

BF-109, an MB??? More like a Citroen if you ask me. Or 1974 VW fastback. Sorry, it's just one of those planes you love to destroy.

P-51 should not be compared to even a Shelby Mustang. More like the GT40.

P-47...Ford Excursion 4x4 with Rancho Lift Kit

P-40...Ford Mustang 302 Fastback
P-39 series....Pontiac Fiero GT

F4U...Corvette Stingray LT-1

F4F...Dodge Dart
F6F...Dodge Charger RT

F8F...Corvette Lingenfelter

109 is more a 911- outdated concept but still compareable in performance to much newer designs.

Pinto? Pinto? More like a Cale Yarborough or Dan Gurney Special, or maybe a Spoiler II

P-51 as a GT-350...I dunno about that either. GT-350s were not noted for range. Try a GT-40 Mk.II or racing Cobra instead

P-47s as Thunderbirds? Original T-birds were two-seaters, competetion for the Corvette. The P-47 is more like a Mercury Marauder...and not that concept car pretender, the [I]real one[/I

F4Us were noted for quality...something the Corvette doesn't (read: never) had. Try a 1940 Ford Deluxe with a 24 stud flathead, instead

hehehe, thanks for your replies chaps, just what I was looking for.

To the Escort doubters: Apologies, I'm an old rally boy; if you'd ever seen Vatanen in a Works BDA at full chat in Hafren forest, moving mud, you'd understand where i'm coming from. Notwithstanding the TVR definition earlier, I liked that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Chuck, you're right, the patchiness of my knowledge of muscle cars is matched only by patchiness of my ability to fly, which is why I loved your definitions. For the T-Bird I had big, and fast (in a straight line). thanks Dr. Hookecho for finding a better one. And yep i do know what a Hemi is. Never got to Santa Pod to see them in action in European drag racing, but I used to watch (British) Stock cars as a kid, they all had 454 Chevy motors in, with open pipes. Glorious noise.

P.s. I threw the Pinto crack in to wind y'all up http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The Jag E Type is a Spitfire.
The older body Merc SLK, not the new 2004 smooth one, is a dead ringer for a Bf-109E.

I have a theory (untested, so maybe it's just a hypothesis then) that Germans make cars and planes that look somehow cold blooded, like sharks or darting reptiles. The Brits make cars that look lithe and warm blooded, like they're otters or dolphins; nimble and quick, and the Yanks make cars that look like power animals, like bison or horses, for thundering down their highways in straight lines.
The Italians, of course, make cars according to the designs given to them by god.

Shoot Down

Tach it up, tach it up
Buddy gonna shoot you down

It happened in the west where the front is wide
(Oooo rev it up now)
Two cool planes flyin' side by side
(Oooo rev it up now)
Yeah, my fuel injected Bf and a Supermarine
(Oooo rev it up now)
Are revvin' up their engines and it sounds real mean
(Oooo rev it up now)

Tach it up, tach it up
Buddy gonna shoot you down

Declinin' alt at an even rate
(Oooo movin' out now)
At the count of one we both accelerate
(Oooo movin' out now)
My Bf is light, prop€s really startin' to spin
(Oooo movin' out now)
But the Supermarine's really diggin' in
(Oooo movin' out now)

Gotta be cool now tactics shift, here we go

Spit€s carb€s cuttin€ out with the G€s in low
But my fuel injected Bf's really startin' to go
Now we€re climbin€, and he€s in the clutch
G forces are buildin' that machine€s too much

Throttle's to the wall, see his big carb drink
(Oooo pump it up now)
And now the Supermarine's lead is startin' to shrink
(Oooo pump it up now)
He's hot with ram induction but it's understood
(Oooo pump it up now)
I got a fuel injected engine sittin' under my hood
(Oooo pump it up now)

Shut it off, shut it off, buddy now I shot you down
Shut it off, shut it off, buddy now I shot you down
Shut it off, shut it off, buddy now I shot you down
Shut it off, shut it off, buddy now I shot you down
Shut it off, shut it off, buddy now I shot you down

Not even slightly OT!!

The Sturmovik/Volvo comparison has merit, but Volvos, for the most part, are 4 cylinder cars and they don't really have the nuts to haul anything, at least not over mountains.

I'm thinking something more like the classic Toyota Land Cruiser.

A buddy of mine was shot with a large caliber handgun while delivering pizza in DC driving a Land Cruiser. The bullet went through his chest, not killing him fortunately, and then left a divit in the dash- richocheting off into the neighborhood. I saw it.

If you want a tough vehicle that can carry your freight into bad places, you want a Land Cruiser.

Escort Mk1 and Mk2 were the most successful rally cars in history at one time. Not a title to be sniffed at.

I'd say that Hurricane was very much like an Escort; pretty docile/easy to make and repair and relatively inexpensive.

I'd suggest that the 190s were more like the boaty American muscle cars which were fast in a straight line but are useless at going around corners http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Except the GT40, of course, but March had a large hand in it, IIRC.

Seems most Americans don't realize that Ford of Europe was almost entirely different than what we get here.

But, most people (worldwide) also don't realize what cars are capable of beyond their rep. There are A-bodies (Chevelles/GTOs) that can pull over a G. Be sure. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

OK, enough baby talk

Firstly:

"Tell us more about quality machinery. This is good comedy. Oooh! Do the one about how all American cars are ****! I love that one!"

I never said anything of the sort. I said two things about two specific machines. And, you know it. So hop off the saddle

Next.

This has nothing to do with the Corvette or the Corsair. You know it, and so do I.

We had a disagreement last month. You didn't like it. And now you hold a grudge.

So you read something I post and you don't like it. You don't like the post, and you don't like me, so you use the post as an excuse to pick a fight.

Do I really need to spell this out? You can't honestly think you're clever. You are two dimensional. As transparent as a pane of glass

You're trying to turn this into a a personal thing with me, and I'm not ignorant enough to fall for it

You're petty. Everyone knows it. Your Modus Operandi is to bide your time, find a post to make a quote from, say whatever will be argumentative, and then enjoy the fight. You offer no evidence, and then you make your comment, and add an insult. Now you want to put words in my mouth, too.

I am not falling for your little play.

You're a grown man, DDT- act like it for a change. You're actually trying to start an online fued with me over whether or not a car and a plane are quality machines, but you don't even have an argument to address what you say is wrong? Horse manure.

The one and only thing this is about is you not liking me, so stop pretending it's about anything else.

Um.....what?

I don't even know when I was here last, or what the hell you are talking about.

What this was about was a typical, hype-based comment about 2 good machines that don't really live up to the reps. you intimated.

Apparently from that point it was all about the grude you seem to be holding and are projecting on to me.

You act like you "know" me, so you know that I'm not that subtle usually, and will lash out at hype driven comments, and that at the slightest hint of attitude I will give it all right back and then some. You would also know that if this was not wanted, the way to achieve that would be to drop it, not come back with more and more attitude.

However, it seems plain that you're still carrying a torch over something. Something that I must have long forgotten about. Guess it's because you're not that important. lol

Care to try PMs and let this get back on topic?

Oh, honestly, are you serious? Go read the thread. You're the one who singled me out, I never tracked you down, we both know it

Act your age and address further insults to me via Personal Messaging and stop the act

lol! ****! You really are sore about something. Yes, I am serious, I have no clue what you are so pissed about from the past. Sorry dude, in terms of importance you rank below crickets in my live (though to be honest they are pet food, so I suppose they do have some legittimate value lol).

Oh and BTW, debates are saved for those worthy. People who start crying about how bad their snatch hurst immediately aren't interested in listening to data and won't be swayed by it, so no point in offering you any.

Go crank one out and maybe you'll calm down a little and hell, who knows, you might even get over grudge and pettiness you are trying to accuse me of. (and hysterically, I might add) Then we can all just get back to the purpose of this thread.

As for PMs, that was a suggestion for you. As I don't care about you, or this grudge you have, I have no interest in pursuing you to PM.
