Doohan took eight machine gun bullets on D-Day, and after recovery and a transfer from the infantry to the air corps, earned the title "craziest pilot in the Canadian Air Force" for flying in a slalom-like manner in and out of telephone poles in the European countryside. Doohan also related his best moment as an actor may have been as a barrister in a play about Whistler. "James Doohan was superb," he quoted one reviewer as saying. In regards to "Scotty", he remarked that when auditioning for the role he said, "Well, if he's going to be a chief engineer, he'd better be a Scotsman," and proceeded to produce the appropriate accent.

Here's to ya, Scotty....a borgus frat you were not!

Yeah, Scotty was my favorite character and I love the man. He lost a finger during D-Day and so you never saw his hand with the missing finger on tv and the movies because of that.

Cheers to you Scotty!!! Thanks for the good years!

Also was missing a finger on one hand thanks to the same machine gun blast. Tough man.

Peace to him on his final voyage.

I learned how to estimate repair times because of Scotty!

Customer - "How long will it take?"
Me - "That's gotta be a 16 hour job."
Customer - "WTF? The Klingons will be in this sector in 2 hours!!"

1 hour and 59 minutes later.

Me - "It's ready."
Customer - "Smart *ss. Full Power!!"

After Star Trek he had trouble getting roles as he was so associated with Scotty. In 1973 his dentist told him to get over it as people would always think of him that way. He accepted that and never looked back and embraced that he was Scottie and enjoyed the noteriety for the rest of his life.

Another hero from World War II is gone. God bless Scottie and all the other vets that served with him.

Having had the pleasure of meeting James Doohan once, he's just as nice as I figured he would be. The very fact he lives 20 miles away just hits home as well.
After all that Beaming up he's done, he finally had the change to beam himself up now.
Thanks for the memories Scotty, you can now go anywhere none has gone before.

My favorite scotty moment was in one of the star trek movies in the new enterprise.

roughly he said ... i know every bolt o this ship! and promptly spun around and bumped his head on a bulkhead...

with regards to his missing finger, it wouldnt surprise me if it was a middle one and was in the upright position facing the general direction of the enemy when it was lost http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

i think Scotty would find it amusing that such hilarious stuff was being bandied about in his memory. He's probably up there with Dr. McCoy (deForest Kelly) and Capt Pike (Jeffry Hunter)trying thier luck with some of those green chicks that are so hot(Orions?)-using romulan ale and Klingon aphrodisiacs of course. THis guy had a kid when he was 80.......

Ironic he's remembered more for battles with the Klingons, Romulans, Gorns, and Khan than for Juno beach. Salute Sir..... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Reading about the deaths of my favorite childhood stars only brings me closer to the realization that I, myself, am also mortal.

May he always be remembered for his contributions to his country, his family, and his fans.

The Dilithium crystals finally gave out. Sniff.

Hey, four in the leg, one in the chest and the only one he noticed was the one that shot his finger off?
