Hey all - I've been reading all the Track IR threads, so I went to their site and checked some videos - seems pretty cool. One question, since it seems to emulate the "mouselook" feature what happens when you switch to a rear gun or turret position? Does your head movement look around the position or move the gun? If so how does that feel and work?

In FB TrackIR doesn't use mouselook per se.
It uses a inbuilt hook to communicate directly with the game engine -enhanced mode

And when you use it in a gunners position it's amazing. You can aim with your mouse and move your head by...er...moving your head! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Since FB supports TrackIR by Enhanced Mode. You control your turrent gun with mouse, not TrackIR. TrackIR control head of gunner.(you)
Pretty cool thou not that good for aiming.
If you hit F1, you come back to pilot's eye with no problem.
Just get one, you can pause & resume TrackIR function at any time of the flight.

Thanx, I'm just about sold - the new issue of Computer Games has a review of the newest one, gave it 4 1/2 which started me looking into all of it.

Hey I just thought of another question. How about external views? Handled by the Trak IR or mouse?

If you go external the TIR will look around also. It's not as intuitive in external view, but still works.

you can still use mouse control in external view if you want to .. its up to you

All you have to do for externals, gunners, etc is program a js button to toggle TIR off, then view control reverts to normal (mouse, hatswitch).

*real* man do not have external view enabled http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

But with a keypress (IIRC F10 is default?), one can disable TrackIR and then FB/PF switches back to mouse-view-control.
Thats esp. usefull for track-editing or screenshots http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The external view-control with TrackIR is limited, since TrackIR is matched to a pilots head-rotation, therefore you dont even get 360 degree as the full range (would brake the neck, wouldnt it?).

I always turn TrackIR off when I switch to the gunner's position. Much easier with the mouse.

You meant "... with the mouse *only*.", right?
Since you aim with the mouse, whether TrackIR is active or not.

While I agree on the better aim without TrackIR .. one also gets used to it after a while (use bigger deadzone), and then you can look around freely with TrackIR, making the ride as gunner more enjoyable.
Or maybe, use TrackIR for scanning the sky, turn it off for firing, thats a nice in-between http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I love track IR with the gunner view while using the mouse as the gun. For this mode I have the trigger set for `Middle mouse` press which is perfect. The most impressive thing is the way you can LOOK about the WHOLE INTERIOR where you are. In the Heinkel you can see your extra magazines and the other gunner position, in the Pacific Brit bomber (forget name), you actuall see a walkway leading to a door if you look around! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif It`s a great extra touch and makes you feel you really are in the real thing.

But if you have just mouse mode, your view becomes very limited just to a little window. And I don`t find TIR and mouse as gunner difficult to use at all!

And this is with TIR1!!

p.s. TIR is not meant for external view. Besides real men stay in cockpit! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif I switch off TIR when looking outside, too unwieldy otherwise.
