I will be coming for a short visit to London this week, and was wondering if there are any good armour/aircraft museums close to London that I could visit.

Thanks for your help.

Hendon in the north of London is a must.

I spent a good part of a day in there this spring, and I have to say it really is great! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Any ideas about Bovington? Worth visiting (I noticed they took the Tiger away to refit the engine)?

If you can, try and make a trip out to the Imperial War Museam at Duxford. It is a bit of a train/car journey but it is a superb place to visit.

Hi Cuski, here's a few:

RAF Museum Hendon - http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/hendon/index.cfm - 1st choice for aircraft, an absolute must.
Imperial War Museum, Lambeth - http://www.iwm.org.uk/ - national museum, everything represented here.
deHavilland Aircraft Heritage Centre (inc Mosquito Museum) at London Colney - http://www.dehavillandmuseum.co.uk/ - a bit further out but well worth it.

These two are also worth a look if you have any spare time!
HMS Belfast - http://www.iwm.org.uk/belfast/
Cabinet War Rooms - http://www.iwm.org.uk/cabinet/

Am planning a trip to Hendon soon myself;

Cheers, Geoff

Cuski,

In London -

The Imperial War Museum.

The Royal Army Museum.

The Rotunda Artillery Museum (may have moved, however)

RAF Museum, Hendon (don't miss it if you are an aero buff)

HMS Belfast (moored in the Thames right below the Tower of London)

National Maritim Museum (don't miss it if you are a naval buff)

London - great town, great country, great people. enjoy.

A bit of a way from London but the best tank museum in Britain. They have running displays on some days.
If you get bored with the tanks (!) there's a brilliant monkey sanctuary just along the road.

Cheers.

Many thanks to everyone for the info... considering that my girlfriend was not able to take the week off work - I might have more time on my hands than I expected.... so I might venture outside London too.

Geoff: Did you get my e-mail?

As far as I remember from reading the text, it's not a replica.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures - it was quite dark - and obviously my camera couldn't cope with that.
