Is there a way to have one person as the bombardier and the other as a pilot in one bomber or is the pilot always the bombardier too?

In a previous thread, Oleg has stated that the code was the same for single player mode as for multiplayer. He said there would be too much involved in writing separate code for multiplayer to allow separation of pilot and bombardier. Too bad, it would be most helpful.

Tnx Spectre. I suspected it.
To bad as it makes multicrew bombers kinda lame as noone really wanna sit in a gunners seat especially when AI are sharpshooters.

I've tried it with both regular autopilot and level autopilot. No luck. I've tried making missions for single and online with bombers. No luck. My question is, and I think this is related, who is that I see laying down in front of the pilot on the He111? If that's the nose gunner, then why does my view from the bombardier, looking up, left and aft, show an empty pilot's seat, and no gunner in front of me? If that person is the bombardier, then shouldn't that crew station be empty? Someone please explain to me the layout in front, i.e. the positions of the pilot, co-pilot (who should also be a mannable position), gunner, and bombardier. How many people were used to fill those four slots? Also, on the TB3, why's the co-pilot seat empty? Didn't the pilot have enough on his mind not to have to be pilot, copilot AND bombardier? Having a separate bomber guy would sure help learning how to use that gunsight, especially since I can't seem to get either one of those big ol' bertha's to fly straight and level, even with hundreds of kilometers to slowly work with the trim, prop, mix, throttle.

Oy, this is a big post. Sorry, got a little carried away.

I know that it was only a plot by Ven to try having one more sexy blonde board his plane.

Talk about a multiscrew bomber.

Don't worry about it, fully justified IMO /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The whole point in having the bomb-aimer for real is that it was impossible to fly the ac as well as aim the bombs. It is a pain trying to get them to fly level, but even I can do better than that utterly useless 'level autopilot.' When you are at the bombsight the least you should get from the 'pilot' is a decent straight and level. The 'level' feature often climbs/descends 100m in a 30-60 sec spell at the sight. Frankly, I find that rather appalling. More evidence of no testing. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Simple, fly level, auto-pilots have been in games for years; it's not difficult.

I'm not sure that the He-111 had a co-pilot. Didn't German bombers have a commander, who was not the pilot, who looked after navigation and overall mission command? I believe he also had a pretty good knowledge of every crew member's job and was a pilot himself, just not the operating pilot in this case. May be wrong about that, but I did read it once a long time ago.

I flew WarBirds for years; get used to bomber issues being half thought-out, poorly implemented and last to be fixed /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Having said that, the FB bomb-sights are excellent compared to the simple, one-type-for-all-ac, computer aided, laser accurate, WB bomb-sights, so praise where it's due: well done Oleg.

Ven, you´re into music right? IMO it´s like singing while playing - can´t give yourself 100% doing both. The pilot should be able to level the bird while you make small adjustments. Hehe - a bombercrew/rock band analogy... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Judging by the LOL, was that a guess? or do you know that for sure. If the nose gunner was the bombardier, then we definately aughta be able to have the pilot on auto while we bomb guys do our thing. One of the posts above also makes a good point about the bombsights... they're done extremely well. Too bad I can't concentrate on practicing/using it for very long. I just get the thing sorted out and my planes somehow in a 30 degree bank or something. I don't want autopilot just to cheat and hit targets easy. I want a separate bombardier so I can learn how to use the bombsight effectively, AND I would love to fly online as a crew member of a bomber other than the pilot, specifically the bomb guy.

I was really looking forward to the bombers in FB, but I was also disappointed in that players cannot share pilot/bombadier tasks online. I understand Oleg's explanation that the game code won't allow for two players to have control over the plane's movement simultaneously. But what about a compromise: a toggle key to switch control of the plane to pilot or bombadier? The pilot could fly the plane while generally lining up with the target in the distance, then toggle control over to the bombadier during the final approach. After the drop, the pilot toggles the key again, regains control and gets the hell out of Dodge. Not too far from reality--is it possible within the game code?

Yeas, sadly this issue seems to be one that will plague FB. Myself, and my entire squad was thrilled when we heard that we could do multicrew bomber runs. We were very let down when we saw the way in which it was implemented in the sim. . . and ultimately none of us use these features as they currently are now, and flying while operating the site seems to be nobody's idea of a good time, so generally it seems people fly 1 crewmember per bomber, and simply dive bomb instead of bothering with the site. i feel that any extra work (not sure why this would be harder than any other position) would be worth it to the community, and to those who worked to get what we currently have, as their efforts could be used instead of wasted.
