The online aspect of FB gets plenty of debate, but I bought it because of the campaigns & love flying in that environment. I suspect others do as well, so I'd like for people to share some of their campaign adventures here.

For me I was thrilled to bring down 3 Ju88s in an I16 tip18 on the opening mission of the Lvov campaign.

I've also just started two campaigns, one in which I'll fly Laggs & La's thru the whole war & another where I will fly Yak variants only. Also have a Hungarian camp. going flying the 109F in '43

personally i don't always like to fly the best plane available, many pilots had to make do with hand me downs from the aces after all.

I like the dynamic campaigns too but until more bugs are corrected, I'll continue to play online and with the Quick Mission Builder.

I'm still a 109 fan but you've gotta love the Spitfire!

Since FB 1.1b, the medals/promotion in campaigns are somewhat strange!
In a month I was triple soviet hero, with the maxium number of decoration/medals, ~60 air victories and ~900 ground kills (Il-2 campaign) BUT I was only a Starshy lt....go figure.
And we were comanded by a podpolkovnik with 2 air kills, ZERO ground kills, but two time hero of the soviets.

If you flight leader gets shot down (quite often), you discover that you moves are now shadowed BY THE ENTIRE SQUADRON. BUT, you can't command them!!! So, they just keep flying in you tail with THE BAD HABIT OF FLYING INTO YOU WHEN YOU SLOW DOWN AND MANEUVER FOR LANDINg

I'm patched up to 1.1F and play campaigns only. I haven't noticed any major bugs. I did run into a weapons bug where when one ran out of ammo the other stopped firing for a short period. Although it seems to have remedied itself somehow. Now I can see no bugs although I'll admit I've only been flying early war campaigns.

I mainly fly offline campaigns.
I use the default aircraft with historically correct squadron for the area and date.If I die or am captured I delete that virtual life and start again to see how far I can progress.
I am currently a Leutnant with II/JG51 on the approaches to Moscow in December'41, with 11 kills and the Iron Cross 1st class./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Well I can remember one nce mis.. in the Sturmovik campaign:
We received an order to attack an airfield...I ttokoff before the others(I alwasys do so, i have the bad habbit of flying alone..)on the way to target at about 1500m(briefing said to fly at 600,but i like having alt advantages) i found a fw189- booom got him down.
Over the target, two 109E7 just took off- boom one of them rapdly kissed the ground, the other one ignored me and went to attack the others. i didn't had a chance to cacth him, so i attacked the flak amnd then the parked planes on the airbase. Just when i turned for another pass, gues who was coming at low alt with flaps and gear dow? the second 109- another booom and he was down.
On the way back, my enginedied due to previous flak hits right before the landing strip, but i managed to glide my plane and succesfully land.
That was a fun mission I can tell ya....

A 'good' landing is one from which you can walk away. A 'great'
landing is one after which they can use the plane again<center>

Dogtail, Nice pic! It would be nice if you joined up with a squadron & received planes & tranfered locations historically. Or like in Red Baron where you could be tranferred to other units. But i'm not complaining.

Try flying the Experten campaign - you can download it at www.mudmovers.com, (http://www.mudmovers.com,) I believe. It's a scripted (non dynamic) campaign, but it's really well-balanced, and you do get transitioned to new planes and even get transferred to a new squadron once in a while, plus you get a good feel for the ebb and flow of the war through the briefings and the maps and missions selection. I'm on about mission 97, in the winter of 1941-42 outside of Moscow. Pretty cool stuff.

Have fun!

I've just started another VVS Fighter campaign flying I-16 t.18, and our weapons are pretty tiny, so we spend all our ammo kickin' our foes' asses. But, man, my comrades are real hot shots! I'd like them to leave something for me... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Ah talking about fun missions now? I've got a crazy mission for you. I was in an I-16 and the target was bombers. Well they hit their target long before we got there so I chased them to there base.
There they were almost all of them low, and slow lined up for their landings in a big circle. I waited for the biggest gap in the circle, and dove in behind 3 BF-109's. I popped one, then two, and got the third as he banked away trying to lose me. Although at low altitude, and low speed the I-16 eats BF-109's for breakfast.
So I fly off a little ways, and come back in on the remaining 111's that had yet to land. Their gunners slowly pecked away at me, but I downed 4 of them by bursting their wing tanks with minimum cannon rounds.
Then I made a big mistake in that I veered to close to the airfield on the last 111 I was after and the AAA fireworks display got kicked off. I cranked it hard into a turn, but it was too late as I heard my engine start shuddering.
I was at 110% power at low altitude, and full throttle was barely enough power to maintain enough speed to get clear of the airfield. It was obvious it wasn't going to keep this up too awefully long though.
So I started hunting a good landing spot, and picked out a nice road. The landing was rough but I stayed intact. Sitting there thinking I failed the mission a crazy though came to mind.
I pulled up the map, and figured out the road headed right for my base minus a turn off or two. So long as I didn't run into enemy convoys it sure beat walking. So I throttled up my wounded engine, and started driving my I-16 home. That's what I did too! 30mph, and bouncing along I drove that darn thing all the way home. Bounced across a field, and taxied next to my hangar.
"Mission Complete" Woohoo! Plus I got really good at ground handling with my twist rudder after having to taxi all the way home. Now I take off straight down the runway in anything. I've got the rudder control down pat.
Besides that nothing reduces combat stress more than a nice drive through the country. lol

I put this up the other night, but hey, why not again! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Well, the Axis powers are on the run. We (the glorious Soviets!) are now threatening Berlin in the Leningrad Campaign. It`s close to the END.

Anyway, we were tasked to intercept some transports. Well, there were over frankfurt an de Oder after a quick tussle with couple of 109s and I get the call "Bombers!" Hmm, why didn`t they include a "transports" speech...

I gunned my LA7 forward, ordering the other planes to stick with me so they don`t rush and kill the JU52s before I can get a shot in and what do I see?

SIX 6-engined Me-323s! It`s the first time I`ve ever come across these lumbering Behemoths in any campaign. I thought perhaps they were missed out cos Oleg couldn`t get them to work with the AI except in QMB. But there they were!

Knowing how tough they were I ordered everyone to attack- I was like a kid in a sweet shop. We flew in and around them like angry wasps. One I was on flew so low he hit the ground and exploded in front of me. A piece of wing (or flap?) flew straight over my cockpit, narrowly missing me! Priceless!

Together we shot 3 down with one burning. I left him in a dying circle... We all had run outta ammo.

An excellent and unexpected mission!
