Not yet!

I`m afraid I`ll have to ditch the current case because there is hardly any space left.
I don`t think I`ll be able to bring the tube over those monster cards.
Otherwise it will be quite crowded place as well.
Today I checked and between the end of the cards and conectors for the disks there is perhaps a trace of a milimeter of space.

bunkerratt
06-01-2007, 07:22 AM
right that's why i went with the monster case here...room to work in ...i had the same problem before ..no roon between the card ends and the harddrives lot's of space now ...look into the big typhoon cpu cooler by thermaktake..."before" you assemble the system...it has to mount from the back of the mobo...be cool to see what it'll do on 3dmark 06 ..iv'e got this tweaked now and an avarage 3dmark score is about 6030

That case is dinky! My case is almost as tall as my (large) desk. Plus I have 4 internal HDD's & 2 external! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif I have far too much animae and music and games!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I need a new CPU though... say that turns up next Monday along with my new monitor! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

2 monitors....

One playing SH3, one playing Hitman Blood Money
http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

The possibilities.... on games like C & C 3!!
One building my base, one watching the supposidly secret advancing enemy troops! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

I am also quadroupling my RAM at the same time http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

When I do an upgrade, I do an upgrade!

Now what else can I put on my mmm I think it is 4 terrabytes of HDD space? I have all of Madlax, Noir, Neon Genesis Evangelian, Ghost in the Shell ~ to name but 4 of the close to 50 series I have... I also got Space Above & Beyond somewhere. I think that is on DVD though.... really should watch that again sometime.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

My computer may LOOK old, but that is just cos I can't be arsed buying new perpherials! (mouse, keyboard, monitor, case etc)

pmsl

I lie! I have a 286 laptop in my loft! all 8mb of ram and 256 mb of hard drive http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Still runs though http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I also got a 486 and a P166 (I think), mind you, I blew up the hard drive on that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif I miss playing Great Naval Battles and sinking the Royal Navy surface fleet. I one sailed the Bismarck, Turpitz, Scharnhorst and Genisnou (sp) up the Irish sea looking for a target. I found and sunk the Hood, Repulse & Revenge! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

I'll post a pic if I remember, after I have had my new windows installed and had a re-arrangement of my house. Somebody remind me about this next month. It should all be done by then! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I digress anywho. Anybody know where I can get a dual chipset motherboard that'll support two Athlon 64 X2 6GHx processors and let's say 4 gigs of RAM? I'll also be wanting to plug in my current high end graphics & sound cards that my current PC struggles to run! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

<--- Has even better games he wants to capatalise on the graphics of!

hehe I have money to burn, but I should really spend it on that new bathroom I need at home not PC's!!

Right....I`ve changed my mind.
Tomorow I`ll go on a hunt for Thermaltake Armor Extreme Edition Link (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133037).

It`s simply futile to hope I`ll cram everything, including the Vapochill hose inside my case.

$2500 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif
Yeah it`s cheap over the pond.

My bill so far (PSU,CPU,Mobo,OS,2xGPU,4XHD) is: €3.342.

Add to that another €1800 (RAM = €615, Vapochill = around €600 Case=??? and the new 22" LCD which I bought two weeks ago for €399).

Err.....over $7000. http://foolstown.com/sm/vis.gif http://foolstown.com/sm/mog.gif

OK, ......Since I have no problem demonstrating that I'm still living in the past (hardware wise); .....I'll ask what might seem like a basic question:

Can someone explain to me (in words of two syllables or less) how TWO graphics cards are implemented in a single monitor system, and what the advantages are???

(....or have I misunderstood the whole thing, and people are not using two cards??)

@Messervy;

Thanks! .....That demo cleared things up!

What do you look for in the motherboard specs to know if it's "Crossfire Capable"?? (I am assuming that ATI is not the only source for motherboards for this application.)

Messervy
06-03-2007, 07:46 AM
No, no....It`s very common nowadays.
Ati calls it Crossfire while the Nvidia chaps call their version SLI.

Basicaly every motherboard manufacturer is sure to make you notice it supports either Crossfire or SLI.
Basicaly you need two PCI-express x 16 slots.

bunkerratt
06-03-2007, 07:51 AM
the mothermoard that we are both using is crossfire certified by ati and made by asus ..i belive dfi makes a few crossfire mobo's as well as i'm shure do others i how ever am loyal to asus for quality you will also need a psu thats crossfire ready too ..as you can see ..the new ati cards are bridged internaly ..with the 2 carmel colored bridges ..no need for the external dongle ..also you need to check the memory and see if it's going to run with crossfire .......in the end..all i can say is ..ROCK SOLID ..BUILD IT TWEEK IT KNOW IT ... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

in a motherboard the thing that is first is the chipset on the board and what cpu you want to run ...not all boards are good for gaming ..so do the research ...see what parts that you have now that can be used in the new build disk drives floppy psu gpu or cpu coolers ...case...and so on ..next would be a sata harddrive ..or pairs of ...i run twin 100gb's in raid 0 ...now that we have all the stuff .comes the case ...yes fellas in this instance..size does indeed matter...heat builds up fast running twin graphics and overclocking both and the cpu as wellso we get a bigger cpu cooler.......ok see where this goes?...i call it 1/4 mile drag racing of computers ...it's like crack but made of pc parts and performance.....

Realjambo
06-03-2007, 09:51 AM
next would be a sata harddrive

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but I've given in BR and got myself a Seagate SATA HD, 320gb, 16mb buffer and 8.5ms seektime. I've got Norton Ghost too but frankly I'm too scared to do the transfer myself - it's bound to go wrong - you know RJ and PC's....... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

bunkerratt
06-03-2007, 11:11 AM
lol..not a hijack man...cool on the hdd ..you see a better performing system right off ..just be carfull with the sata connector to the motherboard they are not as rugged as a ide connector..br forewarns rj of a jamboproof weakspot! br's old mobo has 7 sata connectors..an odd number 7 huh?..well it had 8 ..oops...so after a look at the recipets for just parts alone here it's $2725.00 ....so i'll call it $3000.00 with builders and install /tweek /setup .....plus tax!!!

I decided for a little trial build to see if things are working.
It's 3 AM here and I don't have the energy to fiddle with Photobucket.

I must say I'm having serious problems with Silicon Image Raid controler. (been to Asus forum just to find out I'm not the only one - the longest thread there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).
I have it bookmarked and I'll dive into it in a few days.

ICH7 Raid 0 was no problem.
There are issues with Corsair 8500. I got it up to 1066 but the latency is still crappy. Nowhere near advertised 5-5-5-15.
Yesterday I had put the sticks into my old rig and the timmings were 3-4-4-12.
I'll start addressing this when everything is finished.

Now for the good part.

I've only installed ONE (1) HD 2900 XT and ran 3D Mark 06.

The Score........OVER 9000.

......ok here's one picture:

Here is an update.

Not much has happened.

I'm still waiting for Thermaltake Armor (those guys are incompetent).

Vapochill unit is on the way (so they say - but they are Germans so I guess that holds water).

I did some tinkering and connected the second HD 2900 XT and started OC'ing.

Here's a default score:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/Messervy/3DMark11351.jpg

And comparison chart: (Started as 56586st fastest)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/Messervy/3DMarkcomparison.jpg

Then I worked my way up on X10 multiplier. I had to switch from 3:5 to 2:3 somewhere in between thus enabling me to change latency from 5-5-5-15 to 4-4-4-12.
(although advertised this board doesn't boot at 533/1066).

I'm still having everything set on the table with stock cooling, so I played safe and stopped at 3.2 GHz and 1281 FSB.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/Messervy/CPU-Z.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/Messervy/CPU-ZMemory.jpg

3D Mark score:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/Messervy/16577.jpg

Comparison chart: ( reached 3059th fastest score)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/Messervy/Comparison.jpg

Here are some benchmarks from Sandra:

Note: This one is a bit odd.

I had set up the Raid 0 (SATA 1, SATA 3) the same way but I still have two WD 500s to connect. One SATA is occupied with Optical drive (SATA 4).
So, if I tranfere Optical to JMicron I can use Sata 4 and E_Z Raid 2. This works but it is a devider Raid (it splits one Intel Raid port and fools it into thinking it is one drive combined with E_Z port.

I have read lots of stuff on forums and people with two working Raids are few and far between.

It says on ATI site that proc Overdrive for HD 2900 XT is not yet supported.

As for mylar strips BIG THANKS!

OK I lie, 2 with different desktops, but still run by the same computer, mouse, keyboard etc http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif 17.5" Llyama and a 22.5" widescreen Llyama side by side! 40" of monitor (and I am getting a third shortly ~ I wonder if I can rig all 3 up to one PC....?? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif )

I get lost moving my mouse about! 1450 pixels high by about 3000 wide! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

pmsl sorry but I now need to try out my new monitor with part of my anime collection! I got to shut up lol!! I'm gonna try SHIII out on it tomorrow after shoppin! It promises to be loads of fun!!

On Monday I start building. Hopefully I didn't forget something since I'll flip out completly if I find I'm missing something as trivial as thermal compound in the middle of the nigh.
