It isn't just 'a thought'. I was the one who posted the article here. It was in a Dutch playstation magazine. The guys had interviewed the people at ubisoft. They told the magazine that Altair has a wife and that she's a 'paradise woman'. I did some research and found that these women were part of the initiation ritual. So it's not just 'a thougt'. It's a fact.

sigh in all honesty do you really think it matters? I mean really? its not like its assassin's sim is it? no the point is to go kill certain people. maybe the wife ties into the story maybe it doesnt but why does it require poeple on this board and in this thread becoming hostile with each other?

ok now put down "the big book of fairy tales for bed time reading" and go do some more research, and try researching the nizari not the mythical hashassins

im sure i saw some where he had a wife .... well he must have got laid at least once some time after the game(s) finish else we couldnt read his genetic memory if he didnt have kid/kids

p.s. wikipedia doesnt count as research

I actually did do some serious research. I've got quite a lot of historical books at home. History is one of my favourite subjects and I try to be as thorough as possible. I've looked it up in the library at my school and a lot of historical sites. You're right about the hashasin being mythical and whatnot. But the game is based on them. Not what really happened. Nobody's completely sure what really happened. A lot of it is speculation.
I don't understand where you get of accusing me of ignorance when you can't even be sure of how hard I've looked. This game is really interesting me and I always love how ubisoft really does its research before creating a game. I've read a lot about them and can assure you that my research was aptly extensive. Undoubtedly ubisoft will have taken many liberties. Not enough to completely mess up the history, but enough to make it an interesting and compelling story.

You're right about wikipedia though. It's the bane of my educational life.

P.S. I do realise that I came over as a know-it-all b*tch. Sorry about that. I just can' t stand it when people just half-assedly say things without actually putting some thought into it or checking it out. My first post was indeed in a know-it-all geek style. This post however may sound like that too, but it's hard to convey the proper tone over the internet if you know what I mean (ie sarcasm).

ok this is the bit

paradise women .... the women from the garden you got stoned and carried off to and spent a week there thinking your in heaven and then youll run around killing everyone trying to get back in to heaven blah blah blah blah blah

ok this is the myth made popular by marco polo

alamut is at a very very high altitude, making such a lush and wonderful garden impossible to grow, though they did have an ingenius plumbing system for gathering and storing water

its also not that large for a fortress having to fit a huge library in (mentioned by many scholars who visited to study in the library) and a magic garden would be impossible

travel between the syrian and the iranian nizari was difficult and dangerous 70 ish miles is 4 or 5 days travel, if any muslim or christian soldiers or guards you meet realise who you are then your gonna get slaughtered. thats why sinan was able to run the syrian nizari with such autonomy, messengers with new orders were rare and no one would pop over to see what he was up to

the gardens only ever mentioned at alamut ... the nizari held over 18 fortresses in 3 areas, they didnt travel unless they needed to for the above reasons and thier religeous beliefs so wouldnt every fortress have its own garden? but they didnt.. why?

also only hassan is ever mentioned during the initiations, hassan died not that long after founding the first nizari state so either he initiated a whole lot of fida that lived 4 or 5 hundred years or ..... it more myth

so they couldnt have had a garden at alamut(the only place its mentioned), nizari couldnt have travled to alamut for initiation from the other areas (even though the syrian nizari are responsible for the more famous actions)

no garden means no paradise women ....

p.s. the whole get stoned to make them killers is rediculous too

the nizari were a religeous off shoot of the ishma'ili who had been using political assassination since around the 4/5th century they never needed drugs .... so why would the nizari ........

bit long i know sorry about that .. just wanted to show how silly the whole magic garden story is, that marco polo sure has a lot to answer for.

this is the second most famous myth about the nizari (the first being the whole hashassin ****)

its not a realistic or phisicaly possible myth, and its the first thing you quoted and you said
So it's not just 'a thougt'. It's a fact. .. now you see why i question what youve been reading bro

I see why you quistioned my 'research'. I do know that the whole 'paradise' thing was merely a myth. And I have checked up on the nizari. The thing is that the developers mentioned his wife as a paradise woman. The only 'paradise' related female role I can find is that from the mythical garden. Nowhere else are 'paradise woman' mentioned. I know that the garden was a myth, but if ubisoft calls his wife a paradise woman, they must be referring to the magical garden. This makes it clear that the ubisoft team HAS taken some liberties with the real history. They 're mixing real history with made-up history. This is rather confusing as you and I can see.

ah sorry my bad ^_^

yeah they are doing a bit of poetic licensing as altairs a robin hood-esq hero trying to end the war, so yeah in that context we may have paradise women in the game

when you said its a fact i thought you were another of our crackpots that turn up now and again and try and convice us they were all drug taking loonies lived in a magic garden and are still around today they just changed the name to al-queda ... how dull life would be without wikipedia learning lol

in that case welcome aboard and enjoy ya stay ^_^

I don't understand the point of having a wife. What would they do?

(Altair comes back from work)
WIFE: "Hey honey, what did you do today?"
ALTAIR: "Today I got to kill the king's assistant!"
WIFE: "Really? I'm so proud of you!"
ALTAIR: "Thanks, hon. Hey, would you pass me a keg?"

*NO POINT AT ALL!*

Not necessarily. His father was christian, his mother was muslim, he doesnt chose sides. He should have the personality of either side. He will most likely have the personality of an assassin. And he will have to have a wife, the genetic memory is extracted from his descendants so he will either have a wife, or have illegitimate children.

also nizari muslims at this time dindt follow sharia law paryed facing away from mecca

thought they had already ascended to a 1/2 way betwenn earth and heaven, and that all none nizari muslims and christians were just phantoms of the past, they didnt follow the nizari way of god so they must be agianst god so there fore they cant be real

so he is muslim in the sense he reads the koran, but most of the external(phyisacl) part of the religeon such as praying following ramadan etc was abandoned only studying the koran for the hidden truths was important
