I tinker with Forgotten Battles, its my son whos the ace, but I would really appreciate being able to fly a mission, win through, come home, land and then be able to walk away from the aircraft without taking a dive. Maybe on the next release we can have a control-H for hero's return rather than control-E for eject? It would be a nice touch. Thanks.

You should give a try to the auto-pilot... Finally, it's the IA that is the real Hero...

-- control-H for hero's return rather than control-E for eject?

Everybody wants to be a Stanley H. Tweedle (the "H" is for Hero)

Until you more than tinker with FB, let son be Hero. Or you could set your plane on auto~pilot, but then you would really get mauled then. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

You know, why do they call it "eject" like this is LOMAC or something. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif Ctrl~B.....bail

This would be a nice touch. I like it.

Parhaps, if the pilot is female, we could have her hips swaying as she walks away? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Guys, he is not complaining about the difficulty. This is a feature request. To be able to have your pilot dismount after landing without ejecting the canopy, running for dear life and diving into the grass (very undignified). This guy, like many others, likes playing in full (as full as possible)immersion. I agree that after flying and surviving a several hour long mission (not using time compress and autopilot cheats) a little eye candy would be a nice reward.

Il2 is incredibly lean with features like these. Even at the end of a whole campaign, all you get is return to the menu. even a black and white picture of a parade or prisoners being led away would be nice. There is a lot a developer can do to facilitate immersion into the PERIOD. IL2 has almost none of this (much less than any other sim). But the only way from here is up, because IL2 is already tops in all other ,harder to achieve departments.

Yes, a pilot walking towards hangar after a succesfull mission in offline campaigns would be a nice feature...

This was done greatly in Aces Over Europe back in 1993! A 386 CPU class sim featuring small videos of decorating a pilot, a plane falling in flames and crashing into the ground etc. absolutelly stunning back then!

Would add to immersion greatly, I found the feature endearing /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif It always kept me try another and another mission to hear the Decorating music and see the little video of a CO approaching a pilot and pinning the medal to his chest /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ...sometimes all night thru /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Hmmm.. I dunno...

I like in-game eye candy (dust when taking off, sun reflections, etc.). But I rather keep things simple after I land. I do not need animations of the pilot waking to the hangar, having a coffee, etc.etc. Those may look nice the first time, but they become pretty boring very soon, and do not add anything to the quality of the game.

Nice girls throwing flowers at the aircraft and your option to pick one for the night/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Sorry... You're right, it seems a bit dumb the way the pilot throws of the canopy and jumping bellywise towards the ground and then sprinting away from the aircraft/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I like the idea of the pilot walking away from the plane after landing succesfully. I thought of another idea along the same theme as yours , it would be to have a pilot after landing with severe battle damage or making a crash landing but surviving, would be to get out of the plane and kiss the ground.

Yes, it would be great to show some emotional element of the pilot after flying, especially in the offline Campain it would be help to hold on the interests

What has deep mission and *campaign* effects is letting the bailed pilot, controlled by player, run back to friendly lines, hoping not to get blasted by enemy ground forces (ie..."capture").

I agree, once you see the Happy Pilot video a few times, then what? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Yes, this game needs a little more of emotional immersion. A few videos (like those in X-wing or TIE-Fighter) with a general putting a medal on your chest, a view of your virtual mother receiving the fatal letter, a night of drinking with your comrades, a chat with a mechanic, the horrors of war, a surprise visit of your girl to hospital, you as a P.O.W. trying to escape, etc. Not detailed not long videos, just something better than those fixed pics of decorations.

Yes, it needs more funds, and the work of graphic artists, but it would improve the gameplay a lot, making it more rewarding.

Even the menus in FB are so spartan now...
