Hi all,

Today I visited North Weald airfield in Essex, North London which was a vital RAF location during the Battle of Britain. Hurricanes and Spitfires operated from here.

I also visited the nearby church which has the graves of British, Canadian,Polish and Chzech pilots.

I hope that you enjoy the pics http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Best Regards,
MB_Avro.

I have taken many more pics today of these locations and have sent them to the BoB SoW Developers.

If any other UK members have similar pics of BoB contemporary RAF airfield pics please see this link on the forum:

I will be going to Duxford sometime this week to take pics of hangers and other installations (ground objects !)

Remember, many pics are required of each object http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Very nice and sobering pictures Avro. Kind of knocks things home when you see the ages on some of those markers. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Do you know what the hanger is being used as now? It kind of looks like the white smaller structures near the van have been added?

The Hangar is being used to house weekly 'flea markets'. Annoys me a little http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

There is no official support to finance preservation. There are plans to build houses over the whole airfield. 'Heritage' in the UK is a dirty word and equates with past 'Imperialism'.

Ask Tony Blair for a comment?

And joking aside, it was a very moving experience walking amongst the graves of those pilots and taking photos. I was the only person present in the cemetry. Those guys were very young http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Hi to you all.As a kid I used to live about 10 miles from the Weald my dad used to take me on the bus there. In those days it was Vampires stationed there and the base was due for down sizing to repair and maint. If you get a chance to go again have a look at the old hanger doors and you will see shrapnel marks that are from the battle. Also if you drive past the place on the M11 towards Cambridge look on your left and you will see three or four overgrown small ponds which I am told was caused by a stick of bombs also from during the battle. PS a trip to nearby Stapleford is worth doing too they still have the old wooden flight hut there.

This 'Bump' is directed at UK members !!

The developers need pics of BoB period airfield installations. About 10 all-round pics are required of each installation with close-ups of significant features. Admin,pill-boxes and accom. blocks would be useful.

I've already sent pics from North Weald and will do the same from Duxford.

We need more from other bases. I can't on my own do all the work so help is needed.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

So...get fell in and get to work!!

Just wondering if you have or will be visiting the Bomber Command bases at Driffield and Foulsham?

I would love some pics of the 462 and 466 SQN RAAF memorial as well as any of the intact structures. I'm in 462 SQN now and have regular contact with the veterans.

Cheers!
