Ace, do go get it.

But.

Make sure you have the other titles, a merged install is the icing on the cake.

I think, to some, this will be like their first taste of tequila.... stinging, difficult to take, and lots of face pulling.

But some will go yeah, that has potential, and go on to drink nothing else. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

point is, keep trying it out every so often. you'll soon find you will be hooked or not interested.

and dont drink till you're 18. *stern look*

Alright, the vote thing doesn't seem to be working. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Pacific Fighters is good and if you played Combat Flight Sim 2, Pacific Fighters will blow you away in terms of flight modeling and graphics. I agree, the best route is the merged install with IL2 Forgotten Battles and Aces Expansion Pack as you get more planes that way. I got mine by purchasing the IL2 Forgotten Battles Gold Pack and the versions in this edition are the final patched versions of Forgotten Battles and Aces Expansion Pack.

Make sure you have enough computer to run this game. Pacific Fighters requires a fair amount of computer. The minimum requirements truely are the bare minimum to run this game with the graphics set at low. Even with the recommended computer configuration you are still not likely to fully appreciate the graphics potential of this sim.

My computer is an AMD Athlon64 3500+, 2 GB RAM, Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS sound card, and a Nvidia 6800 Ultra PCIexpress video card and although I can run the graphics at maximum, it gets slow, so even I have to turn down the detail just a little. But even with the detail turned down, it still looks better than the best looking CFS2 scenery.

Should you decide to install, remember that it may not install or run correctly on a computer with a CD-R or DVD-R drive. Pacific Fighters has a protection routine that detects the presence of recording software and may not allow a complete install or it may just not run. There is a replacement rts.dll available once you get PF installed that will help with the running problem. I had to uninstall my recording software just to get PF to install properly. I also recommend installing IL2-AEP-PF on a freshly defragmented drive, it seems to help with game play.

Once you have installed IL2-AEP-PF you will need to patch it. Use only the 3.03m and 3.04m patches and in that order. The 3.03 and 3.04 patches are for the stand alone installations of Pacific Fighters.

Where it says Cheating has been detected, don't wont. The vast majority of people aren't cheaters. That message just picks up the high ping from some players and assumes it's cheating.

go to the "PACIFIC FIGHTERS SCREENSHOTS PAGE" sticky at the very top of the thread list to see some of the best in game shots, although there is a lot of edited artistic shots, many of the most breathtaking a lifted straight from the in game.

(its a big thread, 89 pages, so dip around at the very begining and at the very end)
