serious.. i know it would be extremely dangerous as ****.. but doing a leap of faith in a haystack... is it possible, would the haystack stop you from dying or getting seriously hurt...

is it possible

it might help a little from low heights...but in regards to the leaps in this game: pretty sure you'd die - and it wouldn't be pretty

it's one of the most unrealistic things of the game. From that height, you would crash through the wood of the cart. Some little hay isn't going to stop you. Even from a low height, say two stories, it wouldn't stop you and you would break bones. From the heights in this game, you would be a splattered mess with some hay on you.

Try it out, and tell us the result. Or have a friend or family tell us.

I really don't know but if you fell in a haystack, the hay would kinda hurt http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
But seriously LOL I wouldn't try it myself http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

That's not a haystack though. However, if they did do modern day cities for Desmond to explore in ACIII, I could imagine a large mound of cardboard boxes would, plausibly, be dotted around the city; those could easily act as suitable end-points for an LoF.

In short, without a VERY LARGE safety net, no, it isn't.

There's no garantee you'd even land in the haystack if you tried, and even then, hay isn't exactly the softest material to dive into.

Personally, I'd never attempt it.

LOL hehehehhehehehe.....tthank god games don't have to be completely realistic.. hmm it looks kool lets just do it and give no explanation for it :P

From 2, MAYBE 3 floors up, yes. Beyond that you're risking serious injury.

More importantly, good luck landing dead-center in the hay - that's NOT going to happen.

EDIT: Also, this:

Hay isn't soft, it's hard and condensed. If the height is too low then you'd bounce off, if it's too high then you'd sink right through (imagine it like crawling through a thornbush) and either break the cart or break your bones on the ground. Maybe one-story would be the optimum height to do a LoF on...

it would depend how much hay can slow you down and how you landed in it (you would want to land on your back not on your head)

but in theory if they file was deep enough of loose straw/hay it would offer enough compression/spring to take some of the impact, but it would probably take a fair size pile even from the height of say a 2 story house.

The thing is hay is very very think and dense when condensed. It would feel like landing on cement or diving from an a high altitude into a body of water. It will hurt. Alot.

yes but if you look at the carts it is thrown on loose it is not bailed, so it will have a lot more compression than a bail of hay would.

it's like if you dropped onto sheets of paper it would be like hitting the ground, but if you scrunched up all the paper then dropped onto it, it would take some of the impact before you hit the ground.

basically it is all about the material having enough sprin/air pockets to slow you down to a safe speed before you hit the bottom.

Leap of faith is very unrealistic, i thought this when i did it the first time in the game. Also who the hell places all these haystacks in the city?

The best jump was in AC2 when you jump from the big tower in Florence, hundreds of metres into a cart with hay... suuure http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You would break your neck including every other bone in your body.

As the video shows it is possible, but not with a haystack.

In the game it may be very unrealistic but it's iconic.

whats even more unrealistic is falling 200ft then grabbing onto a small notch in the wall and still having your arm attached lol.

Yes! It is the most possible thing you can ever do - EVER! It's like eating or breathing - you barely have to think about it! I do it at least 3 times a day off of buildings in downtown Atlanta where I live. The unrealistic part about the game is that Ezio always lands in hay. I always aim for cars or sidewalks. Taking a header into solid metal or concrete is not harmful as the game would have you believe (I don't know why game developers insist on bending the rules of science). If at all possible, find an open concrete area & spread out all the broken glass you can find. If you go up a solid 10 stories & jump, be sure to aim your ecstatic little face right at the glass pile & scream "leap of faith!" at the top of your lungs. You'll hit the glass & concrete & then do that cool Ezio roll that we all love. Works every time!

You also wouldn't just slide into the hay, you would land on top of it, and the guards would totally see you.

10 feet? I can run up 10 foot walls, let alone survive a 10 foot drop quite easily.

A LoF into a haystack is possible, although survivability depends on the height of the drop (obviously), the size of the hay bale and whether or not it's bound/loose straw and on how you land (landing on your spine like in the AC games is not a good idea, especially since a lot of hay bales have pikes in the center to keep them upright so you'll end up getting impaled ye'olde Vlad style).

Survive? Yes, people burn in when they jump from planes and live. Would I recommend it, no, in fact the way he lands is the opposite way you would want to from high up.

Until somebody does it, it can't be done.

Back in the day we used to raid the fields during cropping season and make massive piles of hay under trees. Then obviously climb up and jump into it. The piles used to be huge but people would still go right through and hit the deck pretty hard sometimes. That was from about 30 feet. After a few broken bones we figured out if you lay the hay in a criss-cross pattern it makes it safer.

Still, 100 feet into a 6 by 4 cart is slightly different.
