Captn, are you American? Smeg is a catch all profantiy as popularised by the sci-fi comedy serise Red Dwarf.

And where is the Tempest II and V on that list?

This might stir some reaction but I wouldn't put the F6F into any Best of WW2 list. For a later war plane its far to slow given its contemparies.

I cant fill that survey in,sorry
what do you judge you're opinions of 'best' fighters on?

A)personal preference
B)looks
C)performance
D)how many enemy planes it shot down
E)Where you come from(always produces a biast result)
F)what books say
G)Sound (merlin all the way)

If you watch/read American pilots views on the best ww2 fighter ever,it will invariably be an American aircraft.

If you watch/read an British pilots views, they have great respect for the enemies aircraft as well as what their allies were flying with them,But a majority will have a deep love for the Spitfire.

some aircraft were so successfull simply because of the amount of them produced.

most of the time the aircraft facing each other were 'leapfrogging' each other in performance stakes constantly evolving etc etc...

I'm from the UK,so I'm biased http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
but I love wildcats and hellcats, corsairs etc..etc.. as well 190's oh bugger it,i'm just a piston-engined fighter nut 'fullstop'
Zero's are great, yaks are almost as pretty as spitfires,190's look like brutes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

personally I'd choose the Hurricane...or the 190...or the Zero....or the oh I give up!

thanks for listening LoL

See you in the virtual skies..
