"Of all my accomplishments I may have achieved during the war, I am proudest of the fact that I never lost a wingman. It was my view that no kill was worth the life of a wingman. . . . Pilots in my unit who lost wingmen on this basis were prohibited from leading a [section]. They were made to fly as wingman, instead."

Are you having a problem running it in XP? I don't have it installed right now, but it has run fine on my old XP Home machine and my current XP Pro machine. My old machine had a GeForce 3 Ti200 and my new machine has a 5900 Ultra. The game was always kind of unfinished (still choppy lanscape tile fill with my new machine), but I think the only problems I had were with certain drivers, not hardware or Operating Systems. I think it reqiured T&L-capable cards (and tht feature selected in the game), and I don't recall if it could handle texture compression or anti-aliazing (which some games don't like).

If you have a GeForce 2/ATI 7000 series or higher, it should run fine.

Maybe I'll reload the games and patches. I like the game, but the "no-multiplayer" really killed it for me.

I have just recently re-installed it. It runs fine on my WinXP system with current patch.

What's the patch do?

I thought that was a really great sim, I just hated waiting for the bombers to cross the channel before I could take control of a 190 or 109. (Yes I sped it up) They should have made all the fighters accessable from the start.

Also, the B17 gunners were insanely accurate.

The bullet hit model was incredible, showing damage from every bullet. I couldn't resist jumping in the top turret and shooting down all the B-17s around me.

The flak was cool but from a distance it looked like one big perfect rectangle.

The game was good, but it's a little narrow and gets boring after a while.

The game runs great under XP. Just played it a few weeks ago. The atmosphere is still awesome, but compared to IL2FB it gets boring after a while. It's more like riding a bus, most of the time, but it still has many aspects I'd like to see in other games.

The Campaign system is really cool and the sound is brilliant. I especially love the ticking of the shrapnells hitting the plane and the explosions of the shells.

Chatter is very nicely done, too.

Pitty they had to release it unfinished and without multiplayer support and a Campaign for the German side. This would have made this sim a real milestone. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
