View Full Version : Abrupt end to IJA Campaign

Hey, I've got kind of a strange question.

I started an IJA campaign, with multiple region (Singapore, New Guinea, etc.), and after finally completing the 30-something missions for Singapore, rather than moving on to the next region (Like in the Luftwaffe campaign), I got this bizarre "Escort Admiral Yamamoto" mission, and then my campaign just....ends.

I'm certain that I set it to start at that campaign, and to go to the end of the war, and the CONF.DAT file seems to indicate the same thing. So does anyone know why my campaign ended so quickly, and if there's a way to fix this (I've earned my share of kills, got a long, elaborate diary in IL-2 STAB, and I'd hate to have to start from scratch, only to fear the same thing would start again).

I've got a backup of the campaign from an earlier day, problem is, I think if I complete the missions again it'll just repeat itself.

Is there some way I can trigger the end of the Singapore2 region early, so I can hurry up and migrate to New Guinea?

It might have to do with the way the campaign was progressing. On the default vicotry condition settings, you can win or lose the war early, depending on the results of your mission.

Personally, I always set my campaign victory condidtion points so that it was impossible to seriously alter the flow of the war.

Geeze...I didn't even know that. I suppose I did get a lot of kills, though.

I didn't even realize there was a way to alter Campaign victory conditions in the normal IL-2 Dgen (I don't use the exterior DGen program, I've never had luck with it).

Is there a way to just have it go through the different regions, until the end of the war?

Why the hell would an IJAAF campaign escort an Admiral. That's so against the pathological interservice rivalry in the Japnese Empire. IJAAF planes would be more likely to shoot him down than escort him, lol.

The ingame misn generator is pretty lousy. Totally ignorant of history and very boring compared to the user made campns and even the alternate misn generators availible. I never wasted my time on them after a couple of tries. You never see the stuff availible in this sim if you stick to those. There are user made IJA cmpns availible, even the worse of which are better than the game engine can generate.

In my humble opinion. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Considering Admiral Yamamoto's pivotal position in the national leadership, AND the fact that the effort to recover his corpse was led by Army engineer Lieutenant Hamasuna, I'm guessing an Army pilot PROBABLY would not shoot him down.

The bigger complaint should be: how the hell do they expect an Army Air Force pilot to take off of a CARRIER, much less land on it?

As for custom campaigns--I understand that there are lots of great campaigns out there, but the fact of the matter is...well, they're too short. I still occasionally play custom campaigns, but the actual "meat" of it is the DGEN campaign, just because of length (after all, most pilots had to do the same thing over and over again--they couldn't complain that they were bored and interested in something new).

I tried fooling around with DCGen, but the thing is a headache for me to use, I have to admit.

In any case, I think I may have found a solution--by setting "Influence the War" settings in IL-2 Stab to "Realistic" (in essence, impossible to influence) amounts, no matter how many aircraft I down, I should be able to continue the campaign...hopefully.

If you do not want to fly the goofy end of war missions, just delete them from the DGen folder.

The files are:
JA(V).mis
JA(H).mis
JA(D).mis
UK(V).mis
UK(H).mis
UK(D).mis
US(V).mis
US(H).mis
US(D).mis

Also delete associated .properties files:
JA(D).properties
JA(D)_de.properties
etc.

Of course, you should back the files up first before deleting from the DGen folder.

Only Dgen i ever finished (i'm an online kinda-guy) was IJA, it had me taking off from in a zero the day after the surrender to attack a lone B-29...

This was the best campaign ever, i kinda built a little storyline in my head based on the action (i know, i'm insane)

I started in 1943 on the KI-43 on that one atoll, flew one mission and was wounded by fire, then graduated to KI-61 which i flew untill the home islands mission, when i flew one mission in the Ki-100 (damaged a B-29, wounded by firey airplane, crash landed on a beach)

So i was put in hospital until the end of the war, when this mission came up, and i always imagined this half-wounded guy jumpingfrom his bed at the news of the surrender and attacking for one last time (what i did was, i rammed the B-29 and bailed out just before, but was killed in the explosion and fell into a river).

It was awsome, i ended the war dying on the last day, with 38 kills (not bad for a late-war IJA pilot, full-switch).

I dont think it was goofy, it was a nice conclusion...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I had the same thing happen twice while flying the RAAF New Guinea campaign, after my character was badly wounded. 'Some time later' I had to fly a Seafire and protect 'a secret weapon' being carried on a cruiser.

Since then I don't save missions where my character is wounded after having a fairly good record. Much less frustrating.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Believe it or not, I don't think that's insane, since I do the same too, using IL-2 Stab's War Diary (though I'm spending a depressing amout of time in Malaysia). Writing journal entries about daily life, and remarking on the prior mission, are a lot of fun.

Unfortunately, I don't play with full realism--perhaps if the AI didn't insist on throwing so many planes your way (again, this is moddable, but I'm too lazy, I guess). That, and I rely on slowing down time to make a lot of precise shots.

If you want to try some great user made campaigns, Icefire has just released the 2nd part of his 'Stormclouds Campaign'.

Flying a Tempest Late war vs Ground and air targets.

Be sure to pick a high rank so that you have some cover and can pick what weapons you want. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Guys, I've had a similar problem but with a German fighter pilot campaign.

I started out in the BF-109F-2 in Russia and now I am defending Berlin with the FW-190D. My last mission won't load because "MAP CANNOT BE FOUND".
