Hi!

Apparently some people are having issues reading Disc #1? To my knowledge there is no single reason for this. This thread is intended for people to help each other out with dealing with their issues in regards to this problem.

Your issue could be caused by a number of different things. Before you go to far you should check the following
<UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI>Your DVD disc is clean. Warm non-abrasive soapy water and a lint-free cloth can go a long ways.
<LI>Your computer has the latest and greatest drives and patches/fixes/etc for your OS.
<LI>You don't have any IRQ conflicts.
<LI>You've disabled or turned off everything running in the background, just to make sure nothing is causing a software conflict. This includes disabling any viruses, adware, or spyware you may have installed -- you're welcome to reinstall, upgrade, or even re-enable any viruses, adware, or spyware you may have afterwords.. although I don't recommend it.
<LI> You've made sure there is nothing wrong with your DVD drive -- and if you have two DVD drives you've tried it in both and gone so far as trying to remove one DVD drive, just in case (some games have conflicts with multiple CD drives, so why not DVD drives?)
Now that we're through that, the following is a list of drives that have had this issue. Drives that have had this issue but were in multi-drive setups are marked with a leading #- and grouped by the same #.

Drives that have had this issue:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI> Ilsonic DVD Burner
<LI> LG GSA-4081B
<LI> LITE-ON COMBO LTC-48161 H (Dell Dimension 8200)
<LI> iMac SuperDrive
<LI> NEC ND-1000A DVD Burner
<LI> Pioneer DVR107d <disc 1 doesn't eject>
<LI> Sony DVD+RW 8x (Dual Layer) (Dell Inspiron 8200)
<LI> Teac DVD+RW DV (W58E dell dimension 4600) <BSOD on install>
If your drive isn't listed in the above but you are experiencing issues with Disc #1, please provide us information about A) Your Computers Make/Model/Manufacturer, B) Your DVD Drives Make/Model/Manufacturer/FirmwareVersion(if known), C) Your OS, and D) A complete and accurate description of the issue you are encountering.

If your drive is listed above, feel free to provide the same details.

If you have found a way around it, no matter what your drive is, let us know.

Thanks!

Now for my sanity, Please remember that the people here that help you are volunteers. They do not work for UbiSoft, they are unpaid, they do this because they wish to help you. If you want to scream, cuss, shout, and complain angrily please take a deep breath and explain your problems in a kind civil manner. Or contact Ubi as detailed HERE (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=580100736&m=6651093922). But please try and be nice to them also, they are people to. And if you really can't contain yourself long enough to send a message directly to Ubi, thus insisting on attacking them, me, or any of the volunteers, or heck anyone -- then place it over here in THIS THREAD (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=580100736&m=8491034432). Where it will more than likely be editted to make it acceptable for reading by the general public. If it's unrecoverable, it will be deleted. We understand your frustration, some of us have experienced it ourselves, but we are volunteers. Did I mention that complaining directly to Ubi is more effective than complaining here? Not to discourage complaints, you're more than welcome to make them and if a moderator finds it well reasoned and reasonably well written they will be sure to pass it on to one of their supervisors (who are Ubi employees). You are more than welcome to gripe http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Now that we're through that, feel free to enjoy this thread.

PS: I assume you noticed that the last paragraph or so there is a repeat from my other messages on this same topic. That's not an excuse not to read it, rather it means read it and if you forgot what it says, read it again :P.

This message is in response to the suggestion of modarith which can be found here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=580100736&m=1701057522&r=4711034432#4711034432).

I tried what you suggested, however I cannot downgrade the CPU frequency, but only upgrade it (range is 133-168mhz). I tried it, but it didn't work (as I expected).

CRC is a method for checking file integrity. It works by adding some data and with that data you can verify with a decent accuracy if a the data is not changed in any way. I suppose it is possible that the data flows too fast for the system to handle, but then it should work if I copy the files one by one and it doesn't.

I have made a list of files that I cannot read from disc 1. I hope this could help:

In \common\support\manual:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI>\dutch\manual.pdf<LI>\english\manual.pdf<LI>\french\manual.pdf<LI>\german\manual.pdf<LI>\italian\manual.pdf<LI>\spanish\manual.pdf
In \common\support\readme:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI>\dutch\readme.txt<LI>\french\readme.txt<LI>\italian\readme.txt<LI>\spanish\readme.txt
In \common\data:

Hey Lucy,

Reducing the CPU speed would only really work if your system was overheating or you were overclocking....

Have you tried this on a different DVD drive? Do you happen to have another available to you?

What I'm trying to narrow down here is the cause of your problem. Is it the drive? Is it something installed on your computer? Is it the Netherlands (Ok, European edition)?

It's interesting that it's the sound data, readme files, and manuals that you are having issues reading. Mostly that they're files all in a row. Where these the same files you were having troubles reading before?

I assume you have already attempted upgrading the firmware on your DVD Drive? Dangerous Firmwares (http://etna.rpc1.org/nec/) .. I can't actually find your DVD Drive on the NEC website.... NEC Tech Support (http://nec.com/cgi-bin/support/support.cgi?cat=download) NEC Firmwares (http://support.necsam.com/OEM/downloads/FlashFirmware/)
Perhaps try contacting NEC?

What type of computer you have? Perhaps your systems manufacturer has an update for this?

Hello maztec,

I don't have another DVD drive, so I couldn't try installing it with another one. I'm 100% sure now the problem is the drive (as I found a solution http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif).

As for the files not being read, the interesting part is that it can read the german and english readme files.

This drive never had any firmware updates as far as I'm aware, but I managed to install firmware for the newer 4X DVD+RW drive and it works now!

This will only work for someone with the NEC ND-1000A DVD burner and it WILL void your warranty if you do this (then again, someone who has this drive wont likely have warranty anymore anyway http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif):

- Download This File: http://etna.rpc1.org/nec/nec%20nd+1100a%201_a0%207%20(1_26).zip and this (http://etna.rpc1.org/nec/nec1100a.zip) file. (EDIT: It doesn't catch the first URL unfortunatelly)
- Create a bootdisk (in Windows XP, go to My Computer and rightclick on the floppy drive, click on format and select "Create Bootdisk")
- Extract and copy the file "NEC1100A" (you downloaded that in step 1) to the bootdisk
- Reboot your computer from your floppy
- When it's booted you need to make a backup from your current firmware (to be sure), so you have to type "NEC1100A -sec -mas -out original.bin" (this means output the current firmware from to the file original.bin and you can find the DVD drive at the secondary IDE as the master, if it's at the primary IDE you can use -pri and if it's a slave you can use -sla, if you type it wrong it will not work, so it doesn't matter much if you are unsure)
- When it's done you should copy the file original.bin to your harddrive (you can do this in windows after rebooting for instance)
- Remove original.bin from your floppy and extract and copy the file NEC1_A0.BIN to the floppy
- Reboot the computer from your floppy again
- This time you will write the new firmware to the floppy, you can do this by typing "NEC1100A -sec -mas -flash NEC1_A0.BIN" (adjust the -sec and -mas parameter as in step 5)
- When it is completed you can reboot the computer and Myst will now install normally!

[EDIT: Modified post to make file link more obvious]

Excellent to hear that fixed your problems Lucy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif So looks like a firmware upgrade did it. Funny error, possibly to do with how the disk was printed. Strange that.

While installing disk 1, on either complete or minimal installation, the following error message appears:

Feature: Game Data
Component: Common Game Data Files
File: D:\common\data\data.m4b
Error: Data error (cyclic redundency check)

Then, i click "OK" and it ask me if i want to delete the files that have been copied from the disk, and quit installation.

I own a Dell DIMENSION 8300,
Inter(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz
with Windows XP Home Edition

and my DVD drive:
HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4480B

Can anyone help me to correct that error and install the game properly?

arober -- have you tried the list of options in the first post? That's part of what I was getting at when I told you to move the topic here.

Sorry to just make you rewrite it...

Also, have you tried installing this with a different drive/computer?

Also, have you searched for a firmware upgrade for your drive and tried it out?

And.. I'm noticing a trend, Dell uses cheap DVD drives that have problems :|

I have searched for a firmware upgrade, in vain.
The problem seems to always appear when copying the file data.m4b on the harddisk.
I also tried to copy each files in the DVD to the harddisk, with the same result: transfering error at about halfway, and i receive an error massage saying "cyclic redundancy check". Like if that file couldn't be copied.

My DVD drive never encountered any problems before, I havent tried to install the game with another drive yet, but I don't want to buy another one just for this game.

This is a Life's Good DVD drive? .. Man I'm having a hard time even finding this drive.

I'd recommend calling up Dell and complaining to them that you can't install a game using that drive. I have a suspicion that the read laser is having issues with whatever copy protection may be on it..

I'm not entirely sure a firmware upgrade will fix it, although it might. But I'm not sure if I'm even identifying it correctly.. As the GCC-4480B is a "Life's Good" DVD drive.

I'm confused http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I have tried to install the game on another computer which uses another DVD drive and it worked perfectly, so I guess the problem IS my DVD drive.
I e-mailed DELL support, and waiting if they have an answer for me....

Hi,

I having the same issue when installing the game.

Feature: Game Data
Component: Common Game Data Files
File: D:\common\data\data.m4b
Error: Data error (cyclic redundency check)

I'm having a Sony DVD-RW (DRU-700)

- My firmware's drive is up to date.
- My Windows XP is to SP2.
- My Myst IV disk is clean form any dust.

Note: I'm playing TOCA Race Driver 2 from Codemaster that is a DVD-ROM protected with a different copy protection and it's works without any problem with my Sony DVD-RW...

Mortar, this is on Disc 1 you're having this issue?

MortarDeep
10-31-2004, 05:51 PM
Yes, but I don't know yet if I will get the same problem with disc 2 considering that I didn't be able to get through disc 1 install process.

BTW, do you know if UBISOFT are working to fix that specific issue? Because I can't imagine that we are only few people to have a DVD-RW as unique DVD drive to play Myst Revelation.

maztec
10-31-2004, 09:28 PM
MortarDeep, they are looking into it.

The issue isn't necessarily with DVD-RW drives. For the most part the whole thing is just inconsistent and annoying.

I have a similar Sony DVD-RW drive, older model, but have no issues. *shrug*

Hi,
I have the same problem as arober 27 and "Mortar Deep. Disc 1 fails CRC on 3 files data.m4b, sound.m4b and Intel_14.5_win2kxp.exe.
I'm using an ASUS DVD ROM E616 with ABIT Mobo., AMD XP2700+, 512MB Corsair memory, 40GB HardDrive UDMA and ATI 9600XT AGP 8X.
I used CDCheck 3.0.1.43 to check the disk and it detects the same errors as the install program. "URU-Ages Beyond Myst" installed without any problems and this is the first DVD I have encountered with a CRC problem.

Hi,
I used the safedisc prog. after reading about the troubles with disc 2 and rebooted computer.
Now disc 1 installs completely and computer asks for disc 2 and I get CRC errors with disc 2.
It has taken 4 hours just to get disc 1 to read and now I've gotta find the problem with disc 2.
Time to stop buying Ubisoft.

Hi again,
I have discovered that discs will read on 4KUS DVD 16X16S which appears to be rebadged Lite-On 166S.
My packaging states under "PC MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS" "DVD/CD-ROM DRIVE: 4xDVD". This is incorrect as it actually requires a DVD ROM drive and or firmware less than 12 months old to install.
If the packaging had been more honest about the requirements I would not be down 8 hours or here at 1:45am complaining.

maztec
11-06-2004, 01:04 PM
Not entirely correct. And there was very little way for them to account for every drive that would have a firmware that wasn't valid. It's a massive manufacture problem -- and now (thanks to this game) a very known issue amongst DVD manufacturers.

But they'll only come out with firmware patches so long as they see a need, thus a request for them from their awaiting public.

OneofDex
11-06-2004, 06:48 PM
Hi,
If they were unable "to account for every drive that would have a firmware that wasn't valid" then it would seem prudent to utilise a media which doesn't have this problem eg the same media used for DOOM3. Therefore removing another obstacle to Ubisoft's products.

Hi, just my experience to add. I have a Dell XPS with the Teac DVD+RW W58E and have never had a problem with it before. Upgraded to the latest patch, and one time got the first disk to load but then locked on the second, otherwise locked on the first. To get the PC back to normal had to do a system restore (at this point 3 times).

This is crazy, I have played the whole series and evey other game just fine, even URU live. Does anyone know if UBI is really doing anything? Or what the next move would be? I'm NOT buying another DVD drive! As much as I want to play the game!

Thanks

Susan

A little more information on how my install didn't go. I am able to install Disc 1 completely and seemingly normally. When prompted for disc 2, the entire system locks. Interestingly, when I installed the firmware upgrade off the Dell site (TEACDV W58E)I cannot install even the first disc.

System is a recent Dell XPS with tons of everything. This DV-R has always functioned fine before with all types of use. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Hi there,

My first disc problem got solved by buying a new DVD player (which makes Myst 4 twice as expencive, but anyway, it is worth it).

My Aopen 1648 DVD player didn't accept the first disc even when I upgraded the firmware to R17. So I bought a new DVD player: LG GDR-8163B. This one accepts both disc's without any problem.

My operating system is:
Windows 2000
AMD Athlon 1800+
Geforce 2 MX200/400
Aopen AK73(A)-V motherboard with onboard sounddriver (AC97 CODEC chip).
512 MB ram.

After installing the game, I installed the patch 1.01 and replaced the 15 m4....dll files in the bin folder (in the Myst 4 map on my harddisc) with the 15 m4....dll files from the bin folder on the Myst 4 disc.

Myst 4 runs allmost perfect now. Within two full days off playing, the game only crashed two times in Serenia (at places where the watercreature appears).

Hopefully a new patch will get rid off all the childdiseases this game is suffering from.

Is your ATI card the one the patch was intended to fix ?

maztec
11-13-2004, 03:40 AM
Depends on the box in question.

I have an ATI 7500 Mobility (which the ares_config.xml change fixed), an ATI Radeon x800 (not a problem with the game), and a 9800 XT (no problems with the game either). All three of them use the latest version of the Omega Drivers.

And yes it works fine on all of them - without the patch :P

With the patch on the other hand, it gets ugly, unless I overwrite the shader dll. Which I've fully detailed in other posts.

Now, OneofDex -- I see you have some serious issues here, it's quite obvious by all your postings, but you have yet to state what they are or what yoru system is.. Or if you have, I've rather completely missed it amongst all of your posts.. So, what seems to be the problem and how can we be of service? Please also provide information on your system and take a moment to review the guidelines as posted here: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=580100736&m=1291074922 .. My problem has already been stated and appears to be the same as all the other forum members. The minimum PC requirements specified on the packaging are incorrect and in order to solve one problem with a patch Ubisoft have created several others with many graphics cards, which the customers are expected to correct. The only contact I have with the company seems to be via this forum and the "Ask a Question" in the knowledge base. And I have stated all this per the "Do you want to Scream and Yell at someone? Please do it here..." forum along with my hardware specs.
I'm using DX9.0c with ATI driver ver. 6.14.10.6483 and I've answered all your questions, but the partial statement you made "This post falls under my warning and the forum is being bad" doesn't explain why the message was edited.

maztec
11-13-2004, 01:22 PM
OneofDex, luckily for you, I don't have to tell you why I editted your post. In fact, asking me publicly is against the forum rules. You want to know, you PM me.

But skipping that bureaucracy at the moment because I do understand your being frustrated. I editted it because the You want to Scream and Yell thread is there for a reason. You posted your thoughts there, which was excellent, and then proceeded to post those same thoughts in no less than 3 other threads. So I editted the other threads, which didn't need it, because you provided me with no useful information.

And now I know only two tidbits of information about your system.

"I have an ATI Graphics Card, the game doesn't look good, I'm using DX9.0c, and ATI Driver Version 6.14.10.6483." Does not tell me a lot.

Go read the posting guidelines and post for me your dxDiag please. There are ways around these issues depending on which ATI card you have. And the v1.02 patch should be out early next week - and will hopefully resolve the issues v1.01 was supposed to plus not have the other problems it created :P

Point taken. The total cost for this game is already too high. I will not purchase anymore Ubisoft or Cyan World products. A forum is "A public facility to meet for open discussion" but obviously not at Ubisoft or Cyan Worlds.

update firmware on dvd drive

Squirrel3
12-24-2004, 07:47 PM
I got the Blue Screen of Death when installing from disk 1. So I restarted windows, deleted all the files in "C:\Windows\Temp\", and got the Blue Screen of Death after saying I never want to register. But it was installed by then and it runs fine. I'm running Windows 98SE.

I also can't install disc 1.

I'm running

Celeron (R) 2.7ghz

HP DVD Writer 300n (Firmware 3.2)
Nvidia Geforce FX5200 128mb memory

I have updated all the drivers and Firmware. The error message I'm getting is

I'm getting an error message during installation that hasn't been discussed here. During setup I get this error:

Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications. If the error still occurs please contact your vendor UbiSoft.

Error Information:

System Information:
Windows XP Home Edition
Dell Dimension 4550 Pentium 4 2.4GHz
DVD: LITEON COMBO SOHC 5232K

Have contact UbiSoft and done all they recommended including updating firmware and drivers, emptied windows temp and internet files, defrag, selective startup and even copied the disks to my hard drive and tried installing in safe mode. Finally they suggested the dvd disk may have been bad so I went to the store and exchanged it. Still getting the same error.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First off, Here's the tech information:
TEAC DVD+RW DV-W58E: BSOD on install
DELL DIMENSION 8300
WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL

Hey all,

I checked on my computer, and the DVD drive matches the last choice *Teac DVD+RW DV (W58E dell dimension 4600) <BSOD on install&gthttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Escept I'm using Dimension 8300. But yes, I am getting BSOD. I'm glad i found this-i thought my game was bugged!

So, apparently, (as judged by what I've heard other posters say) there IS a patch but it doesn't really help at all. Please, if anyone finds anything about the
Teac w58e Please post immediatly. I will try to find out what I can but I refuse to take any risks to my computer.

Here's what I've found:

I checked the Dell Website and I found what seems to be a firmware update. It helps kinda helps, but it doesn't solve the problem. You can download it here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?releaseid=r77573&c=us&l=en&s=gen&cs=

I was able to fool my computer into installing the whole thing. Here's what I did. I opened up the cd and copied all the files into a folder onto my computer. I then rerean the installer on the other disk. When it prompted for the second disk, i selected that folder. It then fell for my trick and "installed" the files. But when I go to play it, it won't run...! AND i figured out my graphics driver is outdated. Not sure if it's related; apparently it CAN run with an outdated driver but it is bad quality. It's not. I will install the patch for Myst4 and the new graphic driver.

-It didn't help at all! now I get a BSOD the minute i put the disc in!

This is rediculous. Half way thru instalation it actually ask me to insert Disc3!!?? Asking for the file Video_1.m4b which is on disc 2 already. (dont work when i direct it to disc 2)

And to think I actually installed it, too... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif when so many others can't even do so http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I managed to install it in another pc i had, but the pc was too slow to play it. So i moved the DVD Drive to my faster pc and at the begining of installation (after setting where to install etc) a error message comes up:
Feature transfer Error
Feature: ***IS_STRING_NOT_DEFINED***
Component: Win32 Configurator
File: H:\win32\bin\configurator\systemtest.tst
Error: Incorrect Function

anyone has any idea?

This is by far the worst game with installation since The 11th Hour from the DOS CD-ROM era.......http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I have a drive to add to the list of those that have problems reading the disks. I have a Samsung 616Q running (newly updated) F404 firmware (got it from Samsung) and get a CRC error reading data.m4b from disk one whether as part of complete install, minimum install, or just copying directly from the disk. The same type of error occurs trying to copy disk2 at the file video_4.

I have followed all the suggestions of updating all the firmware/drivers and cleaning out viruses/defrag/scandisk...tried safemode, minimal startup, etc. I think I've tried everything in these forums, as well as during a round with ubi tech support. Still no luck. The only remaining thing I haven't tried is whether it's somehow a bad pair of disks...since I bought it from Amazon it's non-trivial to swap for a new set, and I'm starting to think it's not worth my time.

Before I give up completely, I haven't seen much mention of this drive, so wonder if others just have a working one or if I'm missing some important step? Any ideas out there?
Is there some other firmware provider I should have been checking? I see the wacky process for the NEC drive, but am really out of my depth at that point.

Thanks much in advance,

My installation fails as soon as it starts. It just says m4ck.exe has encountered a problem and has shut down. I am using a windows xp sp2, ati x800xt, and a lite on JLMS XJ-HD166S. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

With all the respect, but Ubisoft must be making fun of players... I spent about 50ā"š¬ and now I can't play Myst IV because it contains "a technology that may conflit with some DVD-RW and virtual drives". I'm really sad about this. I have tried every FAQ in this forum to make Disk 1 working on my DVD-RW player, but nothing. I can't buy a DVD-R because I haven't too much money, I'm lucky for having Myst IV Collector's Edition...
I've lost already all my hope to get it working, but either way I'll tell you about my PC.

- Windows XP SP2 up to date
- Pentium 4 - 3,0GHz
- 512MB
- 60GB
- DVD-Dual Drive - it's a Slimtype DVDRW SOSRW-852S (didn't find any update, although I don't know the firmware drive's site, I made it through the options of the drive)
- ATIā® Mobility Radeonā"ž¢ 9000 IGP

Software running in backgroud (I disable both but still nothing):
- Norton 2003
- FreeRAM XP

For more info about my computer click HERE (http://www.worten.pt/worten/products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=1964213&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1450011&bmUID=1106852120258).

I tried that safedisc.exe, extracted to this folder: C:\DOCUME~1\DUARTE~1\DEFINI~1\Temp - but didn't do anything.

Disk 1 is clean. Disk 2 works.

Hope I can get some good help.
Many regards.

Suggestions, to do in the order shown. Make certain that you have full Win XP Administrator privileges when you try to install Revelation, and clean the Revelation disks to remove any fingerprints, smudges, etc. Also, note that you can't install from copies of the Revelation disks.

1. If you have two DVD drives, make certain there isn't a disk in the second drive. If there is, remove it and try installing Revelation.

2. Clear your Internet Explorer caches, then try installing Revelation.
-- a. Close all open applications.
-- b. Open a single Internet Explorer session.
-- c. Click on Tools > Internet Options.
-- d. Click on Delete Cookies > OK.
-- e. Click on Delete Files (check the 'Delete all offline content' box) > OK.
-- f. Click on Clear History > Yes.
-- g. Click on OK to exit.

3. Use Windows Explorer to search all hard disks for \temp, \tmp, and \temporary folders, and delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use. Then try installing Revelation.
-- a. Click on Tools > Find > Files or Folders.
-- b. Type temp or tmp or temporary in the Named: box.
-- c. Click on the arrow at the right end of the Look in: box and then click on the disk drive to be searched.
-- d. Click on Find Now to start the search.
-- e. Click on the temp (or tmp or temporary) folders found to open them.
-- f. Delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use.

4. Install or re-install Internet Explorer version 6.0 Service Pack 1, available here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1e1550cb-5e5d-48f5-b02b-20b602228de6&DisplayLang=en). This SP will install IE6 or update it, if already installed. Reboot, then try installing Revelation.

5. If you have them, rename the "Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\Runtime\<version>" and "Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine" folders, and then try installing Revelation. (<version> could be something like "09", etc.)

6. If Internet Explorer is set to Work Offline on the File menu, you could receive this error message. On the IE's File menu, click to remove the check mark from next to Work Offline, then try installing Revelation.

7. Defragment your hard disks, then try installing Revelation. Refer to How To Analyze and Defragment a Disk in Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305781&Product=winxp) and How to Defragment Your Disk Drive Volumes in Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314848&Product=winxp). Executive Software's Diskeeper 9.0 (http://www.execsoft.com/diskeeper/desktops.asp) is another option.
