Yesterday I read a topic on another forum about Manual ploting which was needed when playing without map updates and it catched my interest since I have been playing now for a while on 88% (only map updates and external view unchecked) and I wanted to take it to the next level so last night I printed out the instructions of that topic and of I went in my IIA sub. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

I decided to do a practise run on the first enemy ship I encountered. So I was passing Sweden and Norway and I got the warning that we had a contact!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif And so the excersise began..Me ofcourse being in good faith that I could get it right.. It was dark and windy outside but that was good so I was able to get a visual on the target being on the surface.

I went to the periscope room and pressed the stopwatch button while after that I went back to the map and put a mark just behind my sub and then asked for a bearing and distance so that I could plot the lines to the target to get a fix on its position. Well after that I waited 3.15 minutes then did it 3 more times which gave me a somewhat rough Idea what the targets course was. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif(Wasn't accurate yet because I had no routine yet with this procedure..) Anyways I still decided to turn towards the target line to set myself up for a shot. Waited and waited then finally launched a torp but it went past its stern. And yes...I did open the torp door first.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

As I mentioned my plot wasn't really accurate so I decided to try again, and did again another 3.15/6.30/9.45 (just three was enough for me). And This time it gave me a good speed between point 1 and 2 and point 2 and 3 which was 1 knot more then before...So there I was waiting again in a 90 degrees angle.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ready for the kill...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif...I was so ready...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Then the HORROR!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif I noticed the Gyroangle suddenly went up to 130/150 etc. and I realized it was passing behind me!!!!! It changed course!!!!!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

So set it up one more time just taking to plots 3.15/6.30 and finaly I was able to put a torp underneath its keel... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif This all took me about an hour to just sink 1 coastal merchant but I must admit this was really exciting and can understand now why people play this game on 100%......thats the way to go for me from now on.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Now I just have to try to get a target range and speed while being submerged.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gifbut I still have the happy years in front of me so I have time to practise.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Happy hunting!!!

Unfortunately, the map always puts you in your exact position. Furthermore, there are nor currents nor inacuracies in the instruments, so you can rely on blind navigation.

Hope next time there is an option for inacurate (precision up to 300 meters, no more than once per day) navigation.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif heh, still a bit out of my reach but will give it a go once I'm more familiar with things.
LMAO, with the IIA and just 6 torpedoes you can garantee that at least 2 will be duds, leaving just 3 - 4 to hit anything with. My accuracy even with auto solutions leaves a hell of a lot to be desired http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Good luck on your patrols though! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Well I must admit it took me a long time before I even had the nerves to go from auto-targetting to manual targetting. And when I finally decided to go for manual it took everything I had to not go straight back to auto targetting.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif It looks really difficult and in the beginning you will have some misses but once you get the hang of it its easier and more fun then it looks...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And now I plunged in the deep with the map updates checked and in the beginning I really didn't know where I was, what I was doing and especially didn't know where the enemy was as you could see in the first message...but when I finally hit the ship it gave me a satisfaction that I didn't have before with this game eventhough I love the game from day 1.

So once you are ready and are a bit comfortable with manual targetting then its sure something to try (no map updates) it gives a whole different dimension to the game...and a different feeling too! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif
